Sean replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
Oh yeah - you can also go to Umanov's on Bleeker St and drool over the vintage Fenders etc : http://umanovguitars.com/store/old-stuff/old-basses/
I'll be like a Jew at a pig farm but if I'm passing by it's worth a nosey :-) -
Small crossover as I'm there with my girlfriend until 16th. Didn't fancy dragging her around the music shops but this link may be of interest http://www.newsday.com/travel/new-york-city-rock-and-roll-landmarks-1.1569369
Very useful. Bookmarked. -
Colin's a top Basschatter. Deal with confidence. Sold him a strap, easy, no messing about, just like it should be.
If you are going to be there on the Sunday - go and check out this guy at The Red Lion on Bleeker Street. 11 p.m. Every Sunday.
It might all have changed now , but during my time in NYC in the late 80s / early 90s the big guitar shops in Manhattan were mainly on 48th Street - Mannys , Rudys ect - but musician friends who live there often tell me that when they come to London they think the music shops are much better than in NYC , and from my limited experience I would tend to agree . 48th St is great for looking , but the prices are geared towards rich tourists and investment bankers rather than genuine enthusiasts , but it's still well worth a visit and just off Times Square so easy to get to . Sam Ash on 48th St has got a specially designated bass lounge with some interesting stuff in from all accounts . That street is where it all happens .
That'll be Saturday afternoon sorted then! I've managed to get a ticket to see Soul Asylum play at The Bowery Ballroom on the Saturday evening -
I'm going to be in New York City staying in a hotel in Midtown Manhattan from 15th - 18th February. I've been to NYC a few times and always had a great time and I've done all the tourist things so this time I'm looking to be a bit more bass or music oriented with my stay. So, what ideas have you got for a Saturday and Sunday in the Big Apple?

Fewer people are taking Fender's blue pill these days; it seems every time we have New Fender threads on Basschat a few more red pills are swallowed.
Close. Apart from the model. And the manufacturer. I'm guessing you mean a Hofner 500/1. :-) CB
I'm sort of glad I got that wrong. They are vile instruments.

Hohner Beatle Bass thing that Macca played? Surely that's an enduring classic?
How the hell did I forget them? Magic stuff indeed
Just for you...
Charlie Watts & Bill Wyman
I love Bill's playing, his style is really distinctive. It is so unusual to see any love for Bill on a bass players forum. He suffers from having a muddy sound but some of lines are just fantastic and I don't mean the ones that Keith played!
Flea & Chad
Chad with Michael Anthony
Michael Anthony & Alex Van Halen
See above. Has anyone said Stewart Copeland and Sting yet? One of my fave rhythm sections, pushing, pulling, always close to falling apart but not quite; magic stuff.

Recommendations for a cheapo 5 String Bass?
Sean replied to Mr Fretbuzz's topic in General Discussion
Ibanez or Yamaha - buy used and you can't go wrong; if its not for you you'll get your money back easily. -
The guy from Van Halen ?
...is one of the most solid rock bassists out there and one hell of backing vocalist to boot. So, you're way off the mark there. -
I'm just about to move from a 57 plate SEAT Altea XL which I've had since new to a new A4 Avant. The problem with the A4 is that the rear seat doesn't fold totally flat like it does in the Altea but it's a much nicer car and the boot area has a slightly larger footprint but isn't as high inside. I'd have loved to have gone for a BMW 123d, it's a great drive but I can't get my gear plus the PA in it. An A6 Avant would be my ideal car for purpose.

I spoke to him last Sunday on the phone.

Please could someone PM me the address for Shuker Guitars? I need to arrange shipment of bass to Jon tomorrow and it's a bit late to contact him and the address isn't on the website or anywhere.
Wasn't he married to Sonja Kristina?
Wikipedia says "Copeland was romantically involved with Curved Air vocalist Sonja Kristina beginning in 1974, and they were married from 1982 to 1991"

The great Stewart Copeland did a stint with them back in the day.
