Yamaha BB's

Proper photos; those Yamaha catalogue shots are weird, like they aren't even real photos.
2.
Being inexperienced bass wise and the wrong side of 35, Is this just something in my area (central scotland) or are we a rare breed country wide?
In a few years you will be neither inexperienced or on the wrong side of 35, so as long as you keep playing and stay alive, that'll be sorted. And, no, there really are a hell of a lot of bassists out there. I know of 7 others in the company I work for including the CEO and that's without all the folk I know who play in bands. I think what there is, is a genuine shortage of are reliable bass players that have the time and inclination to commit to a band. There are loads of folks out there playing with being in a band, who do it when they have nothing else to do. Not just bassists either.
3. I've done a load of soft skills and coaching courses and I always end up thinking what I learn is more useful in band environments than it is in work. A great book for brushing up on these skills is http://clconsulting.co.uk/CLC/The_Z-A_of_Coaching.html It's the kind of book you can dip in and out of rather than read cover to cover - it's helped me tackle a hell of a lot of band issues over the years.
4. Follow this link for details http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end-the...microphone.html It has jack outputs (two mono). £3 minimum donation to Basschat.
5. This'll be about £3 posted maximum so a £3 minimum donation to Basschat for this. It's as new boxed and is suitable for a load of Tascam stuff. Check their website for details. It doesn't fit standard pedals - it's a proprietary Tascam size.
All my basses get an overhaul every five years.
If my service interval for instruments was this long, I'd be left with nothing but a pile of rusting, decaying lumps of wood and metal!
7. Don't P155 around with velcro, use this http://www.coda-music.com/product_info.php?products_id=5202
8. 1. Yamaha BB2024x - perfect in every way for a "4" 2. Spector NS-5 w/ U-Retro and EMG P/J pickups - like a Lamborghini, YFKI, Bra :-) 3. Lakland Skyline "AC" DJ with CS pickups - my favourite Jazz ever, real grinding growl (?) incoming Yamaha BB2025x - if it's as good as the "4" it'll be #1 That's it! I've had loads of really great basses but these ones are really special.
9. I'm off to see them inWolverhampton at the Wulfrun hall. Nice little venue.
10. I had one on order for ages and cancelled it as they seem to be taking ages to get to the UK. I see they have them at guitarguitar now though.
11. Fianso bought my Spector LX and again the transaction was really smooth. Cool guy to deal with. :-)
12. Shep's a very good guy to deal with. I bought a volume pedal and env filter, well packed, quick despatch, good gear. Thanks very much.
13. I understand playing ahead of, behind and on the beat but if the drummer is playing ahead of or behind the beat, how is the beat defined? i.e. where is it? I'm guessing that it's the "natural silent click track of the universe"? And, if the drummer is ahead of or behind the beat, should I play relative to the drummer or the beat? Surely, if everyone in the band is playing (the same amount) behind the beat then it becomes on the beat? I'm also guessing that we're now into the vagaries of "the pocket" and as long as it works then all's well?
14. A quick Google says: Features: Two single coil pickups, 2 tone and 2 volume controls, selector switch, chrome plated hardware, Padouk fingerboard, 9 dot inlays, rear access control panel, and fixed bridge. 1984 - Introduced 1992 - Discontinued They looked to me as though you adjusted the pickup height via screw adjusters from the back of the body - weird but then again it's a Rickenbacker.
15. My Lord! It's got more knobs than all the ampless support bands at local summer festival put together! Seriously though, I kinda like it. The contours make it look comfy and it appears well balanced with that long horn.
16. Try as many as you can and buy the one that you like the best. < sound advice, even if I do say so myself.
17. Nice and easy. 100% recommended. Cheers, Gaf.
18. Go check out Hartke stuff - very good value if you insist on new. I wouldn't get hung about secondhand stuff, especially with £400 to spend; you'll get a heck of a lot more for your money trawling through the FOR SALE thread here.
19. I've done this and A/B recordings on a Lakland DJ4 (lost the recs now) and the difference is negligible and as far as any difference to the sound once you are in the mix, forget it. Spend your energies on other stuff like EQ tweaks instead.
20.
How do they do it?
3rd World child labour?
21. I don't think I've had a bass that wasn't used in a function band that I've been in. My East equipped Spectors are very versatile for the smorgasbord of songs played but I'm tending to favour passive basses at the moment for these kind of gigs as it's one less thing to worry about. My Yam BB2024x has P/J pups, a three-way selector and a very responsive tone pot and gets me all the sounds I need.
22.
Whilst on subject of the Aerodyne, (I quite fancy one) More Basschat induced GAS How easy is it to drop an onboard pre-amp into one? And is it possible without doing any routing for battery etc... Thanks in advance peeps!
The control recess on the aerodynes is very small. You might be able to get an Aguilar pre in there but I know an East J-retro won't fit. You could use an outboard preamp thoough, the East one is a J-retro in a box with a couple of cool e tra features.
23. Beware the Aerodyne. It's great if you can live with the body shape. That bound edge drives a few people, including me, nuts. The other small issue with the Aerodyne is that fitting many aftermarket bridges including the Badass requires routing and/or shims. On the plus side, it's pretty and has a good bridge as standard.
24.
It is. Check the upper horn. DJ4: 44-75: I don't there's any reason to think distribution will change. The former Chief Operations Officer (John Pirruccello) is now the Chief Executive Officer - so although Dan Lakin has gone I expect it's pretty much business as usual.
Doesn't look like it will hang as well as the DJ as the strap button is further back.
