1. Does anyone have one? Any views on it yet? They have been quite tough to get hold of as people have been queuing up for them. Does anyone have one or has anyone test driven one yet?
2. Well, I saw this and wondered... ...how do I get hold of one of those? It's on the way! It's a Lakland Darryl Jones with Adam Clayton mods and some of my own btw.
3.
the B2 and B2.1U are identical apart from the expression pedal. So if your not gunna use the pedal, then get the B2 stay away from the B1's, they aint the same quality
There's no USB socket on the B2 either so it can't be used as a computer interface for recording. The B2.1u comes with Cubase LE and is great for recording.
4. Wow! Maple, black blocks, fantastic. I love the black screws on the red pick guard.
5. I used to own that bass and it's fab - I bought it new in Rikkaxe in Bristol. I put the badass on it and it just transformed the thing. The small body makes it very comfortable and it cuts through superbly. Someone is going to have a very nice bass - good price too.
I would heartily recommend checking out the Berg AE410 (Mark @ bass direct again), since it sounds amazing and as far as I can tell is about the same price as the MB 410 cabs now. It is a bit heavier but is a stunning box.
As a more flexible alternative consider using two AE210 cabs, that way you get a modular 4x10 effectively and the convenience of just taking one cab for some gigs and having the full stack for larger ones. This is of course a more expensive alternative but it's so easy to shift and an LMK through one 2x10 is loud enough for most situations but through two it's bonkers. Another added advantage (for me at least, being lazy) is that with the amp on top of the two 2x10s stacked it's higher than on a single 4x10 making it easier to see/adjust whilst standing. I get my 4x10 fix when I want it and I get the convenience of a compact rig when I need that. The Bergantino AE range doesn't have carpet covering, instead it has a sprayed-on tough polymer textured coating and they'll look better longer and won't pick up every single dog hair on planet earth. I just can't bear that bobbled stuff that comes on carpetted cabs, it reminds me of awful knitwear I was forced to wear as a child in the '80s.
8.
As usually happens in forum topic threads people look but they don 't always see. The original thread was what is over rated bass or bass equipment? Pointy bass never were or will be over rated, Ashdown amps have never to my knowledge been rated highly, poor players with expensive equipment is not over rated, it's just misguided and shot sighted. Over rated is: Exotic hardwoods. Boutique pedals - small quantity and high cost doesn't make it sound any better as a matter of course, same for above. Custom electronics. Relic/signature equipment. Stupidly expensive strings. Exotic hardwoods. Slapping and popping.
The intellect of the posting members on this thread is definitely overrated - RTFM people!
9. Gibson Les Paul basses. What on earth are they all about? They are evil and have possessed that poor Zender bloke - call the exorcist!
10. I'm selling a Gallien Krueger RBH410 on the bay at the moment - it ends today. She's an absolute beaut.
11.
I agree, cant stand the look of the bridges
Can't see the issue. They are very distinctive and make a Lakky easy to spot from a distance. If you don't like them, buy a Fender...
12. For me it's the Lakland Darryl Jones that is their finest creation. I love the whole 70s Jazz vibe but love modern basses and the DJ is absolutely perfect for me. Once I heard it on a recording I had done, I ordered another one - it's that good that I would hate to be without one. The 44-02 and the 55-02 superb and I can't see myself selling them but for what I'm doing at the moment the DJs suit it perfectly. The 55-02 gets a lot of use at home though.
13. We recently A/B an SM58 with a the Behringer "clone" XM8500 and with eyes closed we all preferred the sound of the XM8500 and in the same blind test I even picked it over my Beta 58A. It performed superbly in front of a a huge loud guitar rig and doesn't look like a cheap mic. Price? About £18.
14. Does anyone have one of these yet?
15.
on these "who's the best at X" blogs you always get "I can't believe no one has mentioned Y- are you all deaf, dumb, blind and idiotic?" comments. bleh.
Tommy was three of those!
16. Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll just get him to declare a value and pay the charge.

Zoom H4
Cheers Sean! Must try that next time-to be honest I just used the switch on the side, and hoped for the best. Really ought to RTFM. There's a few more like that in the pipeline which we're planning to get decent recordings of soon. 'Cool dirty boogie' -I like that a lot-do you mind if I quote you?
I've been quoted before but never for anything good or positive I'd be honoured. Reading pp14 -18 of that manual is time well spent - the guitarist in my band did it and told me I ought to too. I even know what the mic models are all about now too!

Zoom H4
Follow the link in my signature-the song on the MySpace was done on an H4 at a gig a while back-hardly studio-quality, but not bad. We do plan on getting some better stuff on there soon, but it does the trick temporarily, I think. It's a bit quiet because I had the mike on 'Low'-I wish I'd put it to 'Medium', but I was afraid it would clip.
From my loads of pissing about with my H4 I reckon it's the positioning of it rather than the input gain setting. I used to get much the same as you've got here then put it on medium and it would distort loads. Do you use the auto gain? If you use the monitor function and set the level manually and pop the COMP on it might be better. There's so many variables but I find the more you piss about the more of a feel you get. Cool dirty boogie by the way, I like it!
19. All this weekend just gone:_ Take Your Mama Out - Scissor Sisters Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson I Love Rock & Roll - Joan Jett Don't Stop Believing - Journey Yes, it's a cheesey covers band! And no, I do not have any integrity!
20. I've had a Boss GT-6B, ME-50 and Korg AX3000B - none of them match up to the Zoom. I'm not keen on the Pod XT Live or the newer X3 Live and have no desire to check the GT10B but the Zoom B9.1ut looks very cool.
21. I have a 44-02 which is the Skyline version of the 4-94 - same pickups and pre-amp. This youtube link gives you a fair idea of the sound and versatility. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mpd7r0PdVnU As far as quality, all Laklands are superb.
22. Black (maple) or Black Pearl (rosewood) for me on a black DJ. White pearl on a CAR, Red Tort on an LPB, Black on a Natural (with Maple and black blocks - yum yum).
23. Nice one. Does someone have that Excel spreadsheet that used to be around where you could transpose all the notes on the neck or show just certain scales? I remember having it a few years back before I ditched the PC for a MAC.
24. A friend of mine that emigrated to the States a few years ago used to play bass and has decided that his Fender Jazz would be better off in my hands being gigged. He doesn't want any money for it and it just needs me to pay shipping - does this just need marking as "gift" for shipping or will we have to produce some kind of proof of value and pay duty on it? Does anyone have any experience of this. Cheers Sean
