  1. No problem. PM replied
  2. A used set of Spiro light (purple top silks). No idea how old and how used, but these are, as you know, fairly irrelevant concepts in the Spirocore world (I.e. the only universe where strings last forever and in fact sound better with time). As expected, the silks are frayed but, again as you know, that’s normal. I really tried to like these because it would make life so much easier. Alas, I don’t. Or maybe more correctly my bass does not like them. I used to own a bass that loved Spiros. Those were easy days… Thomann sells them cheapest on the internet at £152+10 postage. So does £80 postage included sound reasonable?
  3. Sorry can’t delete the post.
  4. 3 months on my bass so plenty of life left.
  5. Pure plain gut D strings that I remember buying new as a pair with the G and then only using the G. I think I tried it on the bass and took it off pretty much straight away. I added the washer. It’s in great shape, many, many years of life left.
  6. Looks like pure gut to me but it is darker than my usual guts in colour, so I have no idea what brand it is. Or is it some funny guy that looks like gut? I have no clue! it is most definitely an A string that has been forgotten about in my strings box for at least 10-13 years. It’s nice and soft and it’s bent a bit squiggly, adding to the mystery… the washer was most likely added by me so it’s not a clue. In any case, at 40 quid, it’s a bargain for someone.
  7. I’m pretty sure this is the first incarnation of the Gut a Like swingmaster, which I got at least 12 years ago and has been in my strings box ever since. I cannot remember how it sounds but it looks pretty much mint.
  8. I have inherited (as part of a job lot) some Spiros weichs with the purple silks trimmed…(naughty naughty whoever did that!)… anyway, they are of no use whatsoever to me but they would help someone with a half size bass (maybe), or maybe a UEB (but I’m not sure about that). They definitely do not fit a 3/4. They are FREE to whoever wants them, I had to put a price for the ad to work on Basschat, so I put a fiver for postage. i have: - 1 x E - 2 x As - 2 x Ds - 1 x G Don’t try to make me split them. And especially don’t give me any backchat if they don’t fit your bass, they are free. peace ✌️ PS- having a wee clear out so more strings may be coming, keep an 👁️
  9. Nick bought double bass pickup from me: perfect gent. Great communication. Solid 10/10
  10. No worries man, yep passive just like any pickup. The one gig in which I used it was a concert hall and it went straight into the EBS Stanley Clark, and from there to front of house. Sounded good.
  11. Thank you Nick: great to have a first hand account. I only gigged it once but I was very impressed too. yeah the price for a new soundclip is steep so I agree at £200 being a bit of a bargain.
  12. Big price slashing going on. Now 200 squids
  13. I bought Chris’s Grace Felix and both the item and the seller are fantastic. Chris is a credit to the humans, and especially to the humans who play bass.
  14. This is an excellent tool for someone who travels and plays rented basses, as well as for someone who does not wish to install a pickup “full time”, plus as a spare in the gig bag (which is where mine has been for the past year). I have done one gig with it and I was very pleasantly surprised be the sound. The sound changes depending on where you put it and how many of the weight (included) you use. I used both weights and I screwed it nearer the bottom of the bridge on the E side: it sounded great. It even comes with its nifty little pouch. Selling because I have a lot of pickups, this is new and I can do with the cash. selling for £340 + postage on Thomann. Any question please ask
  15. There is one great bass luthier but he’s in Caithness. Hi name is Will Mackay
  16. If I had the pennies, I’d be all over this! Alas..GLWTS
  17. Thank you very much. Great point. Found the local firm 👍
  18. If you are super loud, use IEM. Otherwise I’d suggest bringing a small amp for self-monitoring on stage and, if you need a wedge, place it on your side, at relatively low volume, with your bass out of the wedge. The more control you have on your own sound before the signal goes to front of house, the better it is. Hearing back a sound that pleases your ears will make all the difference. Have fun and have a wonderful gig!
  19. Hi all, A question for those who might be good at thinking outside the box…or in this case…the case. My removable neck double bass conversion will need a flight case. I have priced the very few cases available on the planet, and they all come in at eye watering prices (£2k or thereabouts). frankly, I just need a very sturdy fibreglass (or corrugated plastic) box with sturdy latches and good wheels and I can stick the required foam inside. It needs, of course, to withstand flights and general transport, so it needs to be haaaaard! However, I have ZERO tools and knowledge to make it myself. Does anybody know someone who can help/have any idea?
