  1. Brand new, legendary little battery amp (For guitar). Known for its miraculous fuzzy sound and bleeding loud too. One of these rock n’ roll lucky accidents, used by lots of pros in studio and/or as a pre-amp to get that glorious tone.
  2. 1) This is a guitar 2) it’s awesome!! it is custum built by Raygun Relics with top quality parts (some of which original Fenders, and some better, including a hand wired pickup). It’s a one off, sounds as good as an original Fender Custom shop imo; the colour and appearance are totally unique and the neck is as smooth as a piano! i had it built in full knowledge that as a double bass player, it would only be a studio tool and a very pretty ornament. However, an unexpected bill has cropped up and this has to go... i would prefer cash but I may take some double bass gear as part exchange. Price is posted and includes a gig bag. It’s also all ready to become a telecaster if you put in a neck pickup: I will include a telecaster White pickguard. please private message me and I can send you the parts specifications in details.
  3. At the start It’s really tricky because of the neck & shoulder tension generated by fighting the great beast...strive for a correct-ish posture pays off in the long run. DAILY practice, even after years and years is a must, not only to approximate intonation but also to ease the above tension and become pally with the big yin...(contentiously, I find it a kinda monogamous affair; when I switched instrument a bit more and spent a shortish period on guitar, the double bass took the grump and made me a bit sore on returning to it....) And then healthy living, which will allow you to play for longer on account of being still alive. But that of course is even trickier... I guess there are more detailed accounts out there that wax lyrical on the subject, but this has worked for me so far, fingers and toes crossed... all the very best!
  4. I took up one of these Remic endorsement deals and I tried it out. The 5400 truly is excellent but it does serve more as a studio mic than a live mic to cover all gigs, so I am going to try the 5400LB (“Live bass” version). It has great reviews, so I’m gonna give it a go. Remic needs 48v phantom on stage so you need an extra phantom box. The Headway does not have 48v phantom (only a lower v, can’t remember exactly). Meanwhile, Schertler dyn-b (old model) does a good job, but I have never even taken it along to band-type of gigs, reverting to whatever pickup and being invariably upset at the sound...I found the DPA and similar options too fiddly and prone to feedback. Maybe it was me unable to get the best out of that setup, I gave up pretty quickly to be fair. I have never really liked blending for some weird psychological reason the more wires and knobs I see and the less I enjoy the gig. I shall report back once I get and gig the 5400LB.
  5. Thanks guys, and Pete the mod golf trolley seems an awesome diy Idea thank you
  6. I’ve lived in Scotland for 20 years; when should I expect the rainy season to end?
  7. I’m curious: anyone using one of these? Worth it? https://www.caswells-strings.co.uk/product/the-bass-buggie/
  8. Real. it’s the body, the sound, the feel....the sweat, the pain, the expense, the awkwardness, the difficulty....but oh the sheer joy!
  9. + 1 for the Westbury range: does what you want and withstand gigging. I have had several higher end ones and I was often disappointed by some of them being a wee bit fragile and others just not having the handles in the right places. Incidentally, careful with the wheeled ones, you may be better with a bass wheel to get more clearance off uneven roads and pavements (although if you have nice sturdy handles the best option is alway to carry it IMO)
  10. Does anyone have a fair quality bow for the poor gigging muso available? Never for classical, but for the odd long note on the jazz & Folk gig (and for some practice I guess), so I don’t need a fine bow, but a decent workhorse, preferably French hold. Personal message me if you have anything please. Admin, I chose to post here as I’m not sure I’d get much DB traffic in the “items wanted” section, but please accept my apology if I made the wrong choice and feel free to transfer my post where most appropriate.
  11. I had a Bryant Lott bass and the bridge was totally fine. It was well set up and it sounded fantastic. I sold it at one of these low ebbs that happen in a musician’s life, but through no fault of the bass. Paul was an incredible gentleman to deal with. it all turned out great at the end, The Bryant Lott is at performing at some good conservatoire orchestra and I have an unbelievable one off bass, which I adore.
  12. Good luck with this Lawrie, just a month ago I would have taken your hand off, as I was looking for a back-up bass to take to pubs and festival kinda gigs. I’m sorted now, but this looks like a very useful bass at a great price, so I sure hope it goes quick!
  13. Hire or borrow from a Swiss player. DB players are great guys. When I have flown, I have hired, and boy am I glad. I had a Chadwick folding bass too, which I bought because I had had flying gigs and almost instantly as soon as I got it, my flying gigs stopped...so I don’t know how it is to fly with. I took it oodles of uk gigs though and it was a great instrument and a talking point pre and post gigs, so if you think of flying often you may want to look at Charlie’s site foldingbass.com, Charlie is a real gent to deal with. I also had an eminence folding bass: it sounds great but I missed the rest of the body so I sold it after only a couple of months, but it is a quality instrument. As you’ll have guessed, none of this is cheap, apart from borrowing, or hiring a ply bass, so I would go for that if it’s a one-off. All the very very best.
  14. Bought on here, used on 3 gigs and one recording with very good results indeed, but I just got a new Krivo magnetic pickup from Jason and I am a mag converted, so I’ll let this go; I have absolutely no complaints on this one, it makes a great sound and used with the Headway preamp I had zero problems with feedback in a 6 piece band with 2 guitarists (acoustic but loud), Kit with brushes, harp, piano and singer.
  15. I’ll give this a wee bump
  16. Anything Leroy Vinnegar has ever recorded. There were/are much flashier players out there but Leroy will pin you to the ground. And then of course my favourite Milt Hinton and the unbelievable master Ray Brown. That alone is about 200 years of practice....takes time and patience. But it’s great fun. All the very very best.
  17. That’s the photo on. I take offers too (not crazy offers please: it’s brand new)
  18. Hi guys, this is not specific for double bass but it seems just about made for us (if you use a mic that needs phantom power). Basically this is a phantom power supply DI. You input your condenser mic and out comes phantom powered and ready to amaze. There are al lot of phantom power supplies around of course but this is special BECAUSE it has both an xlr AND a 1/4 jack out. What does it mean? It means you can now use your mic with any normal bass amp, maybe for your own stage monitoring, while you can also send an xlr to front of house. I jumped on this when I saw it a couple of months ago (£157). It was perfect to use with my Remic mic, which requires 48v phantom. I was forgetting that nowadays I don’t have any fancy double bass gigs and I don’t need top gear to play down the pub... so, the Remic has gone back and this one is for sale because Radial won’t take it back (after 28 days). It is new and unused and I am selling at £57 less than it’s price, so £100 including delivery. I have a photo in the system, so I’ll post it to he thread as soon as I get on a laptop. Anyway, it’s new so any google stock photo will give you the exact idea.
  19. Magic. I may well make use of it, thanks to the awesome TJP I’m getting to try one out and see. This forum is great!
  20. Good to know. How do these things sound Rev?
  21. Not bumping as it’s already up the top, just a wee post to say that I looked at current prices so I’ve taken £50 off the Radial stage bug (RRP £150, still new mine £100). And I’ve taken £30 off the Remic For good measure too.
  22. If you are dealing with Bas, please note: he is probably the MOST HONEST person in the world. Such a nice nice nice nice person to deal with. He was about to buy an amp of mine at a very good price, but first he made sure I knew I could still return it to the shop and get a full refund, hence making me much more money and depriving himself of a great deal... Even by Basschat's awesome standards, that's pretty special!
