Price or Trade Value : £200 The more eagle eyed amongst you may notice that I had the exact same cab for sale a couple of weeks ago. That one was sold to SteveJ who is very happy with it. I originally wanted to keep my second Focus 112 as a spare extension cab, but after some soul searching I realised I would never need to be that loud on stage as I only ever play double bass. So here is my second Focus 112, which is identical to the first on and so much so I used the same photo for illustration purposes. I realise you may want new photos and if so please just PM me and I will take some tomorrow night. The only difference this time is that I do not have the original box, so I will have to use a packing and expedition company, but I will still pay for it, making the price a total bargain. And here is the spiel about the cab: A great extension cab with 12inch ceramic speaker, putting out 200w at 8ohms and of course very useful on its own or as an extension cab. This one is in great condition, 1 year old, not a mark on it, but it has been gigged, although very respectfully, only in arts centres with double bass. £200 posted to the UK is more than fair I'd say. [b]The FOCUS™ LT bass cabinets represent an evolution in cabinet design blending progressive, lightweight cabinet construction with ceramic drivers optimised for today's player. These compact, classic configurations are available in 4 models, each developed to deliver demanding performance, tight focused bass response along with design features you would only expect from GENZ BENZ.
Out of interest Rabbie, how do you find the gut D? On my bass, the various gut Ds I have tried (Chorda, Lenzner, Goldentone) sound boxy/clunky when played pizz with lots of overtones so that they sound very indistinct ... especially if you move above the first few positions. There's a bunch of threads on TalkBass about people having problems with gut D's along similar lines.
Hi Clarky, I quite like the D gut. I don't find it boxy but yes if thumping along root - 5ths, it will sound thumpy, which is a good thing for that style. I find the limitation of their sound is what allows one to be expressive. Not indistinct really, I can always here my tuning and they have a distinct character. Having said that, it's been so long since I tried anything else that I'm not too sure I remember the character of the other strings I played before. Interesting point though, I'll think about it more.
I'm tempted to try guts on at least the G and D. Which brand do you play?
Unless I find crazy offers on boutique gut (I.e. Dlugolecki) I just use Lenzner and they do the trick for me just fine.

The years go by and it's still guts for me. All gut sets for over a year now on both my basses. Depending on my fancy, A is either raw gut or wound. E is always wound, D am G raw gut. I'm also experimenting with a slightly lower action (but still comparatively high by today's standards). Sounds like heaven to me and the dynamics in the playing come out so well. You can hammer or slap guts and sound groovy and percussive; you can dig in and swing hard, or you can tickle them and they sing low... I'm in love with guts more every time I play. Sometimes I hear other people playing on steels or velvets and I dig their sound but guts just do it for me.

Simply put, Clarky is THE gentleman par excellence! Dealing with Clarky is a guarantee of a smooth and pleasant experience. His honesty, communication and the exemplary condition of the gear he sells are just perfect. I have been dealing with Clarky for a couple of years now and I have never thought of posting feedback, but every single deal has been the sweetest ever. This time, I bought Clarkys Acoustic Image Ten2. It arrived supremely well packaged and in immaculate conditions. A top product sold by a top fella. Top marks from me!

if you want to get your 300w you need to create a 4ohm load, either by a single cabinet rated at 4ohms or by stacking 2 cabinets rates at 8ohms each. your current 10inch can is rated at 8ohms, so if you stack another 8ohms on top you get the 4ohms and 300watts maximum power. After all of this, just to confuse you, remember that wattage is not the be and end of it if you wanna make a big noise: in fact the size of speaker is also very important. So even with your 8ohms cab, your wee 10inch will never be as efficient as a 4x10 or 1x15. There is a lot more to it of course, sorry if the above is not explained as clearly as it could be.

I think so for just now. But you may want to get yourself some free headroom in the future whenever you can afford it, so you don't have to push your amp and compromise its qualities. The louder you get though, providing you can tame feedback, and the less you'll sound like a traditional DB. Still some rockabilly and psychobilly guys are after that modern, tsunami-inducing, constipation-curing thunderous sound. Nothing wrong with that and I myself enjoy some Brian Setzer Orchestra and Rev Horton Heath. Great bass sounds, no acoustic quality to it. If that's what you're after, you gotta stack up those cabs...

I think that's what most people do, At least in the DB world. I use my amp for monitoring and post eq DI signal 90% of the time now. But there are lots of venues with inadequate Front of house systems: pubs, Community festivals, some arts centres just for some examples. In those cases if you don't have the potential of an amp configuration who could at least move a bit of air, you're just not gonna be heard. Now, all you may need in that case is a cheap extension speaker for your Genz 3.0, which you can keep in the garage until such venue comes along. That would allow you to get the full 300w out of you current rig and it's probably gonna be enough. Sound quality may be a bit compromised, but it may not be the kind of gig where the quality of your sound is noticed anyway? Just a thought. Anyway, yes everybody needs a Plat Pro or equivalent to get you out of trouble in unexpected situations IMO.

If you like Genz, I have a Shuttle 6.2 in the classifieds. Add a 2x12 and you can be heard on the moon (well not quite, but loud enough for anywhere and still hi fi sound). Pardon the plug.

I'm glad you got an opportunity to get a 3/4. Enjoy!

No trades on this one thanks guys. A 1 year old Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2, treated beautifully and in immaculate condition. Comes with original box. A wonderful amp as all the online reviews will tell you. RRP was £730 last year and now you can't get them anymore as you all know. Here are the info from Genz Benz: The SHUTTLE 6.2 series launches the 2nd generation of these innovative lightweight bass amplifiers. With the addition of our proprietary 3DPM™, 3 dimensional power management circuitry, the amp delivers thicker "heft" to the individual notes and overall increased headroom. The 12AX7 tube preamp also features increased available gain for enhanced versatility from warm, articulate tone to all out aggressive overdrive. Genz Benz quality, versatility and tone delivering 600 watts of output and rich feel in this lightweight package. For any concert stage the SHUTTLE 6.2 is a high-powered bass "solution" that still fits into your gig bag. New price £400 posted is a pretty sweet deal I'd say, but please feel free to PM me with any questions (NO trades please).

These are good strings at this price, good shout for those who want to try a modern version of a gut set, super low tension steels. When they first came out I got a pair and had them on one of my basses for a year, did all sort of gigs and they performed well. At this price you'd be struggling to get weedwackers so it's a fair deal I'd say.

Practically new, never gigged, rehearsed twice. Turns out I'm not that much of a "clicky" kinda guy.... However, by far the best 'rockabilly' pickup system I have tried, especially given the price. The preamp is very clever, fits snuggly to the tailpiece and has all the controls you need to get "your sound". New resuced prive £120 posted. I'm not too sure I'm gonna be able to find the original box, so here is the link to the owner's manual!
