  1. Greetings. I'm considering investing in a small wireless system for live work. Having read the thread about 'Small Wireless' systems, the SmoothHound Classic or the Boss W20 system look the most suitable options for my budget and requirements. For live Band work I use a Fender Precision (passive), for live Duo work I use a Status Stealth (active) into a MarkBass CMD121 Combo + NY121 Cabinet - most gigs are small/medium size venues. I'm looking for one wireless system which I can use with an active or a passive bass - (probably the SmoothHound Classic system or the Boss W20 system). I'd be interested to hear any comments, recommendations or advice. Thanks for looking. Chris
  2. Oh yes, The Corn Dolly on a Saturday lunchtime - a few cans of 'Breaker' and great music from bands like Steamroller, Spring Offensive, Remus Down Boulevard and The Never Never Band. Aah happy days
  3. Gone - thanks for looking. Chris
  4. Evenin' All. I have 13 copies of Model Engineer magazine from the 1950s that might be of interest to someone out there in BC-Land 9 Issues from 1953 1 Issue from 1956 3 Issues from 1957 I don't want anything for them (and I don't really don't want to throw them away) so if you would like them - drop me a fiver via PayPal to cover costs and postage and I'll pop them in an envelope and post them to UK mainland. Chris
  5. To date I've had 4 basses delivered by UPS and in each case there has been no problem and no damage. I've also sent 3 basses by UPS and in each case the buyer has confirmed on-time delivery and no damage to the instruments. Having said that, I will be thinking long and hard before the next courier transaction. Chris BTW - and slightly away from the main topic, I just found this little article about a potential 'Delivery Theft' by another courier company - except this one was captured on a door-bell camera ! ! ! Follow the link below and try to ignore the adverts Doorbell camera captures delivery theft
  6. Thanks to Tom, I'm now the proud owner of a rather lovely Antigua Fender P-Bass (a long-standing ambition now fulfilled). No fuss, no dramas - just a seamless transaction with great communication and very quick delivery. A pleasure doing business with you Tom. Take it easy and best wishes. Chris
  7. PM on its way in a few minutes
  8. Way way back around 1967/8, I was working in one of the coffee bars at Butlins, Clacton-on-Sea. There was a bright red Wurlitzer juke-box full of great songs, including R.E.S.P.E.C.T. which was played almost continually (along with Tramp by Otis Redding & Carla Thomas). Happy days. R.I.P. Aretha Franklin - Thankyou for giving so much musical pleasure to so many people.
  9. A pleasure to do business with. Very nice Cherry Red Epiphone Dot now resident with me courtesy of Chris (aka Thornybank). Great communications, smooth and easy transaction, well packaged and delivered on time. Thanks Chris (aka Chezz55)
  10. My selections of the 'classic Yes line-up' . On Record - The first album "YES" line-up of Anderson, Bruford, Squire, Kaye, Banks. The cover versions of 'Every Little Thing' and 'I See You' are outstanding and have been essential listening since I first heard them in 1969. Live - The "YES ALBUM" line-up of Anderson, Bruford, Squire, Kaye, Howe. Saw them at Colchester Corn Exchange in 1970 and the Royal Albert Hall in 1971 (supporting Iron Butterfly). Stunning live performances both times. Guilty Pleasure - The " 90125" line-up of Anderson, White, Squire, Kaye, Rabin. Just for 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' - which I consider one the best introductions in the world - ever. Chris
  11. My usual music is Classic Rock but I agree 100% with John Taylor (Duran Duran and Power Station) and Mark O'Toole (Frankie Goes To Hollywood) I also have a great deal of respect for Steve Priest from Sweet and Nick Beggs from Kajajgoogoo. Chris
  12. Sorry to hear this. Check out 'Colosseum Live' - it's an excellent live set from Jon Hiseman (Drums) , Mark Clarke (Bass), Dave Greenslade (Keys & Vibes), Richard Heckstall-Smith (Saxes), Dave 'Clem' Clempson (Guitar) and Chris Farlowe (Vox) - a great double album. R.I.P.
  13. Songs I do not like playing include 'Rockin In The Free World' and 'Zombie'. There's probably more but they are massively out-numbered by songs that I do enjoy playing - including 'Alright Now' and 'Mustang Sally'. There's only one song that i refuse to play, and I will leave the room if I hear it and that is ....... 'American Pie' by Don McClean. Chris
  14. Just watched this - it's been a long long time since a tv programme has held my undivided attention from start to finish. Always liked Jeff Beck's playing and the programme opened my eyes (and ears) to several phases that I missed. Thanks to the OP for the heads-up. Chris
  15. Only one bit of seller's remorse here Fender Precision sunburst/maple/tortoise shell - bought brand new from Guitar Village in Shaftesbury Avenue, London in October 1973 (and I have still got the receipt). Sold in January 1978, to a music shop in Colchester (Oasis Music if i remember correctly). Big big mistake - but needs must when the devil (the bank manager at the time) drives. Chris
  16. Cheers - please check your PMs and reply with relevant details. Take it easy. Chris
  17. Appreciate the skills and techniques but something missing - soul/feeling/emotion ? ? Chris
  18. Sorry for the delay - PM on it's way in 5 minutes.

  23. Another member of the Esteemed Syndicate of Bass-String-Benders (North East Essex Chapter) here. BTW - Check out the sleeve of the Long Playing Record version of Humble Pie's excellent 1971 double live album - "PERFORMANCE - Rockin' The Fillmore" and you'll find a picture of Greg Ridley (ex Spooky Tooth, another great band) string-bending on a P-Bass. Ain't nothin' new under the sun. Chris
  24. Yep - I've tried a couple Squier P-Basses and they looked, played and sounded fine to me.
