1. My main amp is a GKMB500. Feeling nervous about gigging without a backup, I've been looking for a reasonably powerful, cheap, small head. I bought a new Ashdown Mibass 2.0 from Andertons for £209 and it arrived yesterday. I've only tried it at home through a Tecamp Puma 12" cab and I'm not especially impressed. Mids and treble sounded OK but bass is thin and lacks depth. I found myself cranking up the gain and the bass to levels far above what I'd use with the GKMB500. I haven't tried it at rehearsal or at a gig yet but, right now, I'm not sure I even want to. Not sure whether to; Accept I only bought it as a backup, put it in my cables bag and probably only use it once in a blue moon. Wait till I've tried it at rehearsal with both Tecamp Puma amps to see what it sounds like, then decide whether to keep it as a backup. Stop faffing about and send it back for a refund. What do we reckon, folks?
2. Bump
3. Yep - Alder body, nicely-finished matt maple neck, chunky bridge with brass saddles, solid-sounding Wilkinson pickups. Excellent build quality with tight neck pocket and rich-looking body finish. Front pickup is especially impressive, giving a tone that's pretty close to a pure Precision but without the muddiness you sometimes get. Add in a little bridge pickup to give some snap and you have a very giggable instrument. If I don't sell this for £125, I'll definitely keep it.
4. Only just spotted this. Very slim J-style neck. 5. Bump. Now £125. Would trade for a small, powerful class D head.
6. http://www.gumtree.com/p/other-guitar-accessories/for-sale-1979-ibanez-roadster-rs900-bass-guitar/1079236283
7. Bumping this because I'd like to move it on to make room for a rather tasty Precision that's come up for sale. First offer over £125 gets this high-quality budget bass. Steve
8. Just wondering about neck dive - that top horn looks quite short...
9. OK - thanks for that. I'm hoping this works: http://www.performing-musician.com/pm/jun08/articles/vintageav4.htm
10. They sure are. When I bought it, I was expecting something pretty basic that I could treat as a knock-about project bass. Dammit, it turned out to be really well made with quality woods and electrics. Far too good to butcher it or leave it under a bed. They've been discontinued now (replaced by Fret King range?). Would make a great starter bass for somebody.
11. Shameless plug for my really nice Vintage AV4 just posted in the For Sale Forum. £160.
12. I bought this brand new 3 months ago as my first foray into Jazz basses, thinking it would be a good chassis for an upgrade project. It turns out that it's far too good to be hacked about. Review article; http://www.performin.../vintageav4.htm Because I've hardly played the bass, it's virtually "as new" with no dings, buckle-rash, scrapes or tarnishing anywhere. It's completely original, with Alder body, brass saddles and a brand new set of D'Addario XL half-wounds which really make the bass sparkle and sing. The build quality, for the price, is very impressive - good, tight neck pocket, glossy Alder body, smooth-working Wilkinson hardware. The scratchplate has a faint minty hue to it that doesn't show up in the photos. The neck is wider than a standard Jazz which I like, since I'm used to a P neck. I'm selling it because, being honest with myself, I've realised that I prefer P basses. This is a really well-made starter bass, or back-up, or start-point for upgrading. However, you may well find that the bass is more than good enough as it stands without needing major mods. No bag or case with it. I'm more than happy to pack it well for courier collection. I'll deliver it for free anywhere in south Manchester. £[s]160 [/s]ono. Now £125. Might trade for a decent, small class D head of 300W or more. Photos here. . The darker marks on the back of the neck are not dings or damage at all - they're simply part of the Maple wood. Apologies for the squint, out-of-focus images. If anybody wants photos of any specific part of the bass, just let me know. Steve
13. Thank you.
14. PM'd you
15. I'm very interested in the 1024 but, despite searching the web, I cannot find out how wide the neck is at the nut. Can somebody please tell me?
16. Yes - but, like the vast majority of P/J basses, it has a J neck which is too small for me.
17. Love the neck pocket fit - must have taken hours of patient sanding and re-sanding to achieve that "seamless" look.
18. Pity it's not a Precision - I'd have been very interested.
19. And replied - thank you.
20. Thank you to Casapete and Paul 5 for your kind offers of help. I've decided not to buy the bass because, nice as it is, it would need considerable time and expense to re-configure the electrics to what I'd want. Plenty more fish in the sea... Steve
21. I've said "Thanks , but no thanks" to this bass. I prefer passive basses, so it makes little sense to buy this and then spend time and money to get it to where I'd want it.
22. No, I didn't get it. However, I'm homing in on something else, which may be even better; An E-series MIJ Precision with Maple neck... Edit/update; I've just found out from the seller that the original pickups have been replaced by "Active EMG's". I've asked whether wiring, pots and jack plug were also changed, and who did the work. If I bought the bass, I'd probably replace the EMG's with passive pickups (DiMarzio's, probably), and that adds significantly to the overall faff factor. Might give this one a miss...
23. Folks, I'm interested in a bass that's for sale in Hull, but the seller is saying collection only. Since I live in Manchester, that's not really feasible. If I run out of options, is there anybody who lives in Hull who would be prepared to pick up the bass and then pass it over to a courier for me, please? Answers via PM are probably best - that way, I'll definitely see them. Thanks, Steve
