So much trouble - Sir John Quatermain Steam - Laura Vane and the Vipertones Pick up the pieces - Average White band Mmmm - funky..

Yeah - I'm well and truly p***ed-off this morning. I think I'll ask for a full refund and look out for a 2nd hand Minimark or Tecamp Puma, apart from the fact they'll still cost appreciably more than the Promethean. Or maybe I'll continue to take my GK MB500/Barefaced Compact rig to rehearsals.

I received my new P3110 from Thomann yesterday morning. It lasted 45 minutes before breaking. See: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185862-prometheanred-subharley-benton-5110-reliability/page__st__20 starting at post number 35. Can't quite believe it. Steve
Oh, FFS - what a nightmare. This might sound partronising, but bear with me. Does the mains lead sit tightly in the socket? I mean solid-as-a-rock? No wobble at all? If not, shove it in really hard (baby!) until it locks. They're a Really snug fit.
OK - I'll try that. I have 2 mains leads so I'll try both and report back. Mutter, effing, $%@!... OK - I've just re-tried both of my power leads, ensuring that they were well-and-truly pushed home into the power socket. Same result for both - crackle, volume coming and going, then silence. I've just emailed Thomann. Thing is, I'm now wondering whether I want another one, or something else. Steve

Folks, You're not going to believe this. I took delivery of a Promethean 3110 this morning from Thomann. Of course, it came with a 2-pin plug European power lead, so I used a new UK, standard 3-pin plug power lead. Read the manual, fired up the amp and it all worked properly, as far as I could tell. Played for 45 mins while trying out different EQ settings, then had lunch. Fired it up again after lunch - oh dear. First, there was a crackling noise, then the amp lost volume, then the volume came and went randomly. I tried a different instrument lead, different power lead, different bass - all with the same result. Finally, I used my Eden E10 combo which worked perfectly as usual. So, looks like the Promethean's faulty. Going to return it to Thomann. Not sure wether I want a replacement now. Steve

I bought this new 11 months ago to replace my Line 6 studio 110 that died. I've only used it for home practice and it's been perfect for that. It's never been pushed anywhere close to its volume limit. It's small enough to hide behind the sofa and the tone is plenty good enough for home use. It doesn't sound thin or weedy. Stock pictures here: http://www.soundunli...s_speaker_-_e10 Spec and blurb: "The E10 features a wide range 10" Eden designed coaxial loudspeaker for great tone. It is housed in a strong light weight plywood enclosure. It contains a fully automatic AGC compression circuit on the input stage to help make every note sound well balanced. That is coupled to a smooth sounding old school passive 3 band tone control circuit. You can set the E10 up to sound sweet and clean or crank on plenty of crunch. A head phones out completes the package.

Power: 50 Watts RMS @4Ohms
Speakers: 10"
Tweeter: Mechanical
Power Handling: 50W RMS
Freq. Response: 48hz - 13khz ±2dB
Impedance: 4Ohms
Dimensions: 17.5"H x 14.5 "W x 13 "D
Weight: 27 LBS"
Because it's never been outside of the house, it's in virtually "as-new" condition with no marks, dings or dents anywhere. Photo: Cheapest I can find online is £200. Yours for £[s]95[/s] £80 including courier. Steve.

Thanks to Dave Bass 5, it seems that the Fralins have one black, one white wire while the Laklands have one black wire, one red wire.

Folks, I have my eye on a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub, made in Korea. Is there a simple way you can tell whether it's fitted with Lindy Fralin pickups, please? Steve
Sounds brilliant but couldn't help but feel the bass was slightly lost in the mix
Seriously!? Blimey.

The guitarist in my band relics guitars and basses for a living. He's in Manchester. PM me if you want his contact details.

Manchester bassist seeks wine-bar vibe...

Bump up. The covers band is self-destructing, so I'm definitely looking for a new project now. -
Sorry - I meant Abm, not Dbm/C#m. We're hearing the same thing, I think. A couple more rock-bass thoughts: Your friend's track is pretty crowded as it is. It may well be that "less is more" when it comes to adding a bassline to it. Something simple based on the 1-4-5 triads with a few passing notes to link it all up could do the job nicely. I play in a noisy rock band with two guitarists. I have a Fender P but I don't use it because it's too thumpy to make itself heard when the guitarists are going for it. The Ibanez Blazer and the G&L L2000 cope better because they have a more middy sound naturally. So, as has already been said, you may well have to boost your mids to establish some bass presence if it all starts getting too busy and loud. Consider a pick too, for more attack. Be wary about trying to get yourself heard simply by turning your volume up - you'll start a volume-war with the guitarist(s).
Very nasty. I think next time I put something valuable up for sale on Basschat I'll put a watermark on the pictures, if I can figure out how to do it.
How about a copy of a daily paper in the picture?
MB1. Whine Bar? A shop thats previously gone out of business that now has a tacky veranda and chairs outside! Serving overpriced warm bottled beer. (Perfect for those warm evenings in sunny Mancunia).
Hi Martin! Yep - that's the sort of thing! Something called "Spanky's", just opposite the train station, with a bin outside sponsored by McDonalds.
