1. Folks, What's the going rate for a New Years Eve pub gig, do you reckon? Steve
2. What's the nut width on this, please? Also, how deep is the neck front-to-back? - is it the same neck profile as the current MIA Precision? Steve
3.
Free bump for Steve, a nice guy to deal with! good luck with your trade
Thank you! I think I'm going to keep the Blazer for now. At a pub gig on Friday, the Fender was booming all over the place and no amount of eq'ing or re-positioning of the cab in the room would solve the problem. I got the Blazer out - problem instantly solved, possibly because it has more punch and mid-range than the Fender. Today, I played the Fender at a barn-based charity gig and it worked really well. So, both have their merits. I'll keep the Blazer for now. Steve

6. As soon as I heard this, I sent it to my pub-rock band as an example of less-is-more. As a counterbalance to that 2-overdriven-guitars-and-heavy-handed-drummer-rock-covers band, I've started the process of putting together my own female-fronted covers band aiming at wine bars and coffee houses, and I sent this video to a prospective singer as an example of what I'm aiming at. I really like the stripped-down vibe, and I just love the singer's voice. For me, that's the type of band I've been looking for for years. Steve
7. Change of plan, folks. I've come to my senses and I'm keeping the Blazer as a very worthy back-up to my MIJ Precision. Steve

9. I'm advertising a watch on Gumtree, and it's only attracted scams. People don't negotiate the price, offering the full amount straight away. They then say they've paid by PayPal and the funds will be released when proof of postage is sent to PayPal.
10. Bit of a shout for Status half-wounds. Smooth as you like and appreciably brighter-sounding than the Ernie Ball flats I recently tried on my Blazer.Good value too - £17 for a set of 4: http://www.status-gr...index_home.html
11. I've just costed out PLI insurance for my band: 6-piece band (the premiums depend on the size of the band), £2 Million PLI, band insured (not members, to allow for deps, temporary saxophonists, etc): £122 from JLT: https://www.jltonlin...omCode= £80 from: insurance4perfoming arts: http://www.insurance...mingarts.co.uk/ £150 from Newmoon: http://www.newmooninsurance.com/ £165 from E & L: http://www.eandl.co....pment-insurance Oh - forgot to mention that there are a couple of activities that aren't covered by these PLI policies: Knife throwing Fire eating
12.
+2 Steve. The Blues Brothers/Commitments band I play with are doing the American Car Show at Tatton Park next weekend and we are taking a 6Kw PA system and everything will be going through it. Stage is a trailer so another challenge there.
Have you seen the weather forecast for the North West this weekend? I really hope you're under cover at Tatton park.
13. Went to spec out the venue today in the pouring rain. The event organiser suggested we played in the middle of a field with no stage, on grass, no backdrop, away from the main area where everything else was happening. We politely declined, and asked to look at the big barn. Much better - under cover, adequate number of power sockets, can set up in a corner, hard surface underfoot, easy access for gear lugging. So, we said we'd play in the barn but not outside. Agreed, said organiser. Phew. Just need to constantly remind the guitarist and singer that it's a family fun-day for charity, so no snarling or swearing. I've bought 4 inflatable guitars off ebay so that kids can play air-guitar with us if they want. That'll completely spook both guitarists. Should be a good event after the noisy pub gig the night before.

We did a trailer gig last year. There was plenty of room, but the "stage" was fairly deep with solid sides. Standing at the back, I could just about see straight ahead, but nothing to the sides - bit like looking out through a tunnel. I was quite a way back from the singers and their monitors, so I was glad of my own monitor.
15. Hi folks, Got an outdoor charity gig coming up. My rig: Fender MIJ P (or possibly USA G&L L2000) through Gallien Krueger MB500 + Barefaced Compact, no pedals or effects at all. Band: fairly noisy 6-piece pub-rock band, 2 guitars, heavy-handed drummer Site: Outside, in open-air, not in a marquee, on hard surface, not on any sort of stage Audience: Unsure of numbers - probably between 100 and 200 Will I be loud enough? Would it help if I got the Compact off the ground using some sort of stand like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320917163707 All advice appreciated, Steve
16. Our guitarist loses interest very quickly unless he's playing rock solos. That's when I start to lose interest. I'm much more oriented towards crowd-pleasing groove dance music. These are some of the songs we've come up with in an attempt to keep him, me and the audience awake: Bohemian like you 20th century boy Inhaler (Miles Kane) Come closer (Miles Kane) Hands up (Reef) Lonely boy Blues hand me down (Vintage Trouble) She sells sanctuary Moses (Coldplay) Green Onions, if you have a keys player Steve
17. I'm with Happy Jack on this one. I reckon you'll need a bit of a band meeting about this, otherwise you'll all end up disagreeing about what you as a band are aiming to play. If you decide that you want to see people dance, then you'll need to be playing songs they can dance to and they recognise. Nothing wrong at all in playing "cheesy" songs (you suggest Blockbuster...) if the band and the audience enjoy them. Personally speaking, I'd far rather see people having a good time to Long Train Runnin than decide to go to the loo because you're playing a guitar-solo-heavy hunk of out-there axe-heavy rock. But that's just me. So, don't be afraid to embrace "cheesiness". If you make an effort and play these songs really well, that will set you apart from a lot of other bands. I remember playing a pub gig and going to the loo in the break. In the gents a guy said that he thought the band was really good because "they played Go your own way really well". He hadn't realised I was the bassist. Loads of groove-based dance songs out there. Choose the ones that most people will know, play them well and enjoy people enjoying your performance. To me, that's a good night out.
18.
That's a full fat proper Stingray, not a Sub. Good price too!
Yes - I realised that just after I put the post up. I asked for the post to be removed to save my blushes.

21.
MB1. "We've chosen a bass player who is already quite familiar with a large part of our set list?" ...You were but they didnt want you to play it? Very strange! Sounds like youve had a close escape!.
Yes - just what I thought. Who knows what the real reason was. Whatever. Onwards.
22. Just received this email: . I'm sorry to have to say that although we all enjoyed the audition with you, we've chosen a bass player who was already quite familiar with a large part of our setlist and because we have gigs imminent we felt this was the sensible way forward. It was a close run thing,
23. The band said they were auditioning some bassists last night (Monday 14th) and they'd get back to me after that. I just cannot wait for the phone call.
24.
You have possibly made my day. This band has real potential to provide material for an epic thread. You HAVE to join if asked. I can't wait to hear about the demo. I don't want to actually hear the demo, the story of its recording wil do.
The demo? Errr, not sure I know anything about that....
