1. I've now responded to all the PM's I've had. Bass is still here - 3 basses in 1 for £350 ono. Complete bargain! Steve
2.
Hey mate where abouts in stockport are you based? Also don't suppose your interested in any trades? Cheers
Hi, I live in Marple. At the moment, I'm not really interested in trades because I'm trying my best to reduce the number of my basses and in so doing generate some much-needed cash for household bills! PM me if you want to come round - I'm at home most of the day - and I'll send you my contact details. Steve
3.
It's perfectly natural to wonder about the credentials of a zero feedback seller - but we all had to start somewhere. There's a hundred reasons why anyone - maybe esp a new ebayer - doesn't relpy to messages. I'm all for 'innocent until proven guilty' - but you have to protect yourself first. Petrol or a train ticket to Leeds is a lot cheaper than losing hundreds of pounds to a scammer , and if you have any doubt whatsoever insist on seeing the bass in advance or paying cash on collection. The seller has offered the option to pay cash and collect and that's a good sign unless it's a total bad egg who does that to lull folk who need to use other options into a false sense of security A genuine seller - esp a newbie unwise to the fact that there are many scammers out there - will , or should , understand that attitude. Re Stingrays.... if you liked what you played - play more of them. Make the effort , go to shops , try and find out (maybe here) if anyone near you has one you could try. If you then decide you want one - there's no shortage of Rays on the market and I'd be suprised if you couldn't get sorted with what you want for around the £650 mark.
Dr Dave's suggestion seems very sensible. I live in Stockport and I have a (fretless) Stingray that you're more than welcome to come round and try anytime. I also have a G&L L-2000 Tribute for sale which would be a VERY acceptable alternative at half the price... Steve
4.
Balls. can't afford it. Have a bump, though
Price dropped to £350! 3 basses in one. Bargain!
5. BUMP. With revised price of £350.
6. Aaah - nostalgia can be powerful and pervasive. Eats away at you unless you do something about it. Hold on a minute - buy my bass and you're sorted! Might be some flexibility in the price... Steve
7. Crash, BUMP, wallop
8.
hi just thought i'd say this is indeed a swamp ash body, all the trans finish L-2000 tribbys are ash bodied and the solid finish ones are basswood IIRC
Aha! I thought so, but I wasn't completely certain. Thanks for the clarification. Steve
9.
Balls. can't afford it. Have a bump, though
Thanks for the bump!
10.
MB1. Got any other colours? ...Mancunian Bump!
Hi Martin, Well, actually I do have another Tribute in the lighter body colour and maple fingerboard. But, that's the one I'm keeping! Steve
11. Hi, I was so impressed with this Tribute, that I went out and bought another one. Then, I got my Stingray to sound as I wanted, so I don't need two G&L Tributes. This one is now for sale. Serial number = 04023534. Made in Korea, 2004-2005 You all know about these basses, but in case you don't - here's the spec: 2 G&L USA humbuckers Swampash body (I think...) Hard rock-maple neck with rosewood fretboard G&L-designed Saddle Lock bridge Tri-Tone active/passive electronics 3-way mini-toggle pickup selector, preamp control, series/parallel control Treble boost/cut knob Bass boost/cut knob, Volume knob When I bought it 6 months ago, the pots were pretty crackly - not uncommon on these basses. So, I had all 3 knobs replaced with CTS pots by Ged Green, Instrument Technician in Manchester, at a cost of £35. Now, there is absolutely no hiss or crackle whatsoever. Pictures: I've only used the bass for bedroom practising - I've never gigged it. Consequently, it's in excellent condition with only a very few, faint marks on the back, and 1 or 2 almost unnoticeable marks on the neck that you can only just see, and only if somebody points them out to you. You can't feel these at all when playing. Comes with a new, but mediocre gigbag. I'm in Stockport and anybody who's interested in the bass is welcome to come round and have a go on it any time. I will post - I have a sturdy cardboard box for this and loads of bubblewrap. Revised price: £350 including delivery to your door. Steve
12.
The collapsible sack barrows from Lidl are really cheap (<£15), really light, and perfectly adequate for most rigs. I used to use mine to move around a pair of Eden D210XLT's, total weight = 138lbs. They tend to go very quickly when a store gets them in, so you need to keep an eye out.
I have one of these to move my combo. Takes up to 70 kgs. 13.
Good decision. But................thumbrest:rolleyes:
Yes, yes, I know - I'm not fond of them myself! But, when it makes the difference between being able to play a bass, and not - it's time to just get on with it. I wish I could master the floating thumb technique but, try as I might, I can't.
14. Martin, Thank you for all your efforts to help me move the bass on. My invitation to you to come round at any time to try it out still holds. I could always take the thumbrest off for half an hour... Steve
15.
MB1. ....A Thumbrest?....
Yeah - shameful, eh? Don't tell anybody, please. I was struggling with resting my thumb on the pup - it was too far back for me. Try as I might, I couldn't play with a "floating thumb" either - I need to anchor somewhere. So, somewhat reluctantly, I put the thumbrest on today, and it really has made the difference between being able to play the bass, and not. If it makes it a little more palatable, I've tried to hide the thumbrest by putting a white one onto a white pickguard. Is that OK??
16. I've tried some halfwounds on the 'Ray, and I've put on a thumbrest to move my hand away from the bridge. Result = a much warmer, deeper tone that I'm growing rather fond of. So, I'm keeping it for the time being.
17. Vintage V4 now sold and off on holiday to sunny Devon. Beaut. fretless Stingray still under my spare bed...
18. G&L Tribute L-2000? Big, wide neck with 2 selectable pups so you can choose P-tone or J-tone.
19. Superb, unique, pristine fretless Stingray here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55141 You're very welcome to try it out anytime. Steve
20.
It nearly went to Europe, but it's still here. I'm open to offers around £900 or thereabouts. Steve
When I say "it", I'm referring to the Stingray.
21. It nearly went to Europe, but it's still here. I'm open to offers around £900 or thereabouts. Steve
22. Thanks MB1! Bumpy round Manchester,eh?
23. I've now replied to all the PM's I've had. Open to offers around £900. Try me! Steve
24. Thanks Andy, It's definitely a handsome bass. The dark fingerboard goes well with the body colour, I reckon. What a shame I'm not getting on with the classic Stingray sound... Steve
25. Thanks to MB1 and mrcrow for bumping my ad! The fretless 'Ray is now definitely for sale: Here are the pictures: Serial No: E12423. I've checked this with EBMM and the date of manufacture is 23rd February 2000. They also confirm the body colour as Pearl Lavender (discontinued in 2002, I'm told) and the fingerboard as Pau Ferro. To quote EBMM: "...most likley the only one we ever made exactly like this". It went straight to Bass World in Kent where it remained on display until I bought it in June this year. It is extremely rare to the point of being possibly unique! 4-string 3 EQ model Fretless board Maple neck Complete with original MM hrdshell case Fully checked and set up by instrument tech. Still under shop's warranty which is transferable to new owner I've played it no more than 10 times, and only in the bedroom. It's never been played live, gigged or even used for rehearsals. Consequently, it's in MINT condition. Technically "used", but effectively it's "as new". It still has the protective film on the pickguard! I keep getting it out and gazing at it wistfully since it is a thing of rarity and beauty. But, I'm not getting on with the Stingray tone. I realise I prefer a P-tone. Bit of a shame, really. Putting a price on it has been difficult becuase of its mint condition and rarity. I've searched ther web for new fretless 'Rays - they're about £1300 - but they're not really directly comparable to this one. I've taken it into 2 music shops and asked for a valuation too. The result is I'm putting it up for sale at £900, which I think is realistic. I'm in Stockport. Anybody who wants to pop round for a cuppa, a chat and noodle on the 'Ray is more than welcome.
