Why not get a L2500 premium for £40 more? http://guitare.playback-europe.com/g&l...urst-11090.html
Because I can only just about cope with 4 strings!

Even closer inspection of the original website shows G&L Tribute L-2000 Premium (as opposed to Standard) for the same price: http://guitare.playback-europe.com/g&l...ural-11089.html Apart from the finish, are there any other differences that might make the Premium a better-value buy? Regards, Steve I'm going to buy one - I can feel it coming...

Hi everybody, I've just spotted this: http://guitare.playback-europe.com/g&l...lack-11098.html Brand new G&L tribute L-2000 including gigbag and delivery from France for £390. Looks a real bargain to me. Anybody have any experience of this supplier, please? Do you still have to pay any import duties on top of this price - I'm not sure, given that it's within the EU. Steve

I've just found this french supplier of G&L basses: http://guitare.playback-europe.com/g&l...lack-11098.html I'm very interested in the Tribute L-2000, for £390 (or £325 excluding VAT), including gigbag and delivery. Looks like a very good deal to me. Do you still have to pay import duties on stuff bought within the EU, please? Steve

Inexperienced Manchester Bassist seeks jam-mates
Glad to see you have decided to do some jamming Steve. It was good to see you the other night and i will get the stuff i promised in the post as soon as i can find the damn CD. The drum licks on it are great. Thanks for the "report" on the P-Bass. it is now sold.
My drummer-friend put an "old-gits wanted for jamming" type ad. on Gumtree, and we've had a couple of replies. So, hopefully we'll be able to get something sorted soon. Glad the P-bass has sold - that's a cracking guitar. -
J-Bass with P-neck? P-Bass with J pup configuration?

The Mark Hoppus route looks quite promising. Anybody got one they're looking to sell? -
*Sold Pending the Usual*62 P-Bass Copy with Wizard Thumper
solo4652 replied to BassBunny's topic in Basses For Sale
This bass is a belter. I had the pleasure of playing it last week and the only reason I didn't buy it was I already have a damn good P-Bass. Bassbunny has done a marvellous job - the bass really is "as new" condition. It has a lovely low action and smooth neck, giving it great playability. The tone emphasises the mid-range a little more than the bottom end so it cuts through the mix a little better. The overall quality is excellent - nothing cheap or bargain-bucket here. I was sorely tempted. I have a Tokai Hardpuncher and I'd say the quality and playability of Bassbunny's bass is pretty much on par with it. And that was the problem - his bass was too close to the one I have to make it a sensible buy - BB's is that good. For the money, BB's bass has to be a complete steal, I reckon. Having played BB's bass, I now realise what I want next - a P-bass with a J-sound. See my posting under the general "Basses" thread. Also, I'm still looking for jam-mates - see my posting under "Bass players wanted/available" Thread. Sorry to drift towards selfishness there. In case you're wondering, last week was the first time I'd ever met BB. He was so friendly and helpful, and I would have no hesitation buying from him. Have a well-deserved bump, BB -
J-Bass with P-neck? P-Bass with J pup configuration?
solo4652 replied to solo4652's topic in Bass Guitars
they have a jazz neck.
Good call. And there was me assuming that something called a Precision bass would have a Precision neck. Stupid of me, really. Hang on a minute - does this mean that the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz has a Precision neck!? If so, I'll buy one! -
J-Bass with P-neck? P-Bass with J pup configuration?
solo4652 replied to solo4652's topic in Bass Guitars
How about a Squier Vintage Modified P bass, with a J pup added?? Would that work? -
Hi, I'm looking for a bass with the following features 4 string (definitely) Passive (probably) Wide neck with wide string spacing. My P-bass is 43mm at the nut, and I think I'll struggle with less than that J style pup configuration, giving a wide tonal spread Glass-like, smooth neck for easy playability Prefer secondhand, up to £250 ish So, something like a J-bass with a wide neck, or a P-bass with a J-tone. (?) I'm hoping I'm making some sort of sense here. All ideas gratefully received Steve
Hmm.... I am asking about several basses at once, so I'm a bit hesitant to ask much. Would it be too much, at this stage, for me to ask the OP to record a bit of the bass, adjusting the controls to get a variety of sounds, and send me an MP3 (or similar)?
Hi, Thanks for asking about the Yamaha. Following Musemat's suggestion, I looked on the back of the headstock. Small sticker there reads BB404. Also, there's a serial number stamped on the rear of the headstock: QKX219066 - hadn't even noticed that before. Perhaps you'll be able to refer to a Yamaha website for further information - I've had a quick look for such a site, but can't find one for bass guitars. Now then, recording the bass. Not sure how I can do that, to be honest - I'm not especially talented in the IT department. I am on Skype though, and would be more than happy to use my laptop + built in camera to show you what the Yamaha can do (if you excuse my ropey playing, of course). Pm me for my Skype contact details if you think this might work. I have to say that I've had what seems to be a fairly serious enquiry for the bass, and we're sorting out courier costs for final agreement. So, any other potential buyers will have to join the queue behind. As soon as anything's agreed, I'll post a message. In the meantime, thank you for your interest. Now then, how do you make Skype work - I can't quite remember... Steve

Recently, I bought a new, made in Japan Tokai Hardpuncher P-bass. Fantastic quality. Bob (surname?) at Tokai UK was very helpful with technical specifications, and suggestions of which shops stocked which guitars. I have his email address - PM me if you'd like it (I don't want to post it on a public forum). Steve
I love the BB series, owning a 605 (for sale however as I don't fancy a five string anymore) and these basses are extremely well playing. Bargain for this price! *have a bump mate*
Thank you! I'll be sad to see it go - my first ever bass! For that reason, Im rather attached to it - you know how it is. In fact, I prefer it to my Tokai Hardpuncher for funk, soul, ska tracks because the Yamaha has a slightly more "burpy" tone. It's nice and light too. But, I'm eyeing up a replacement, and I'm not allowed to have any more than 2 basses. I'm open to trades - looking for a good P-bass...(or a good J-Bass with a P neck)

It's in good nick, with just 1 ding on the upper edge (which was there when I got it). There are some minor scratchettes on the front face too - the usual marks you'd expect. Only ever used for bedroom jamming - never been out of my house. Had a proper setup done by my local shop recently. Comes with gigbag, and a new set of D'Addario EXL 170's. You're welcome to come and see it, play it, enthuse about it and buy it - anytime. Looking for £100, packed securely in a Fender box and couriered to your door (within the UK). How's that! Regards, Steve
Revised price, including courier charges within the UK. This is an exceptional bass for the money.

Hi, I started to play bass 6 months ago. I've practised a lot by downloading stuff from Youtube and jamming along in the bedroom. I think I'm ready to play with other people now. I'm playing Blondie, Corrs, Coldplay, Semisonic, a bit of Ska, blues... I don't fancy an open-mike jam session in front of an audience yet. I'm looking for drummer, guitarist, singer who also feel ready to play with people, and see what happens. My aim is to be playing in a pub rock/covers band in a few months time. I live in Stockport. All ideas gratefully received Steve
not much info on the gauges, but for £8, (plus free pick!) it could be worth a pop! Personally, you can get Hartke strings, 3 x 5string sets for £20 (aka EVEN CHEAPER!! and I've been told that they're as good as EB slinkys ) and they're a more recognised brand. There's a thread I posted in Ebay Links with 'em, if you wanna check 'em out?
This looks like a really good deal. I'm a bit more comfortable with a known brand name - will probably go with the Hartke's. Thanks for pointing these out.

If you like your Tokai J Bass, how about looking for a Tokai P Bass? I've just bought a Tokai Hardpuncher and it has exactly the P-bass rumble that perhaps you're after. Great quality. Shame about the gold hardware, however.
Hello Antonio I was in a similar position to you not too long ago and a freind of mine sugested I try going to a jam / open mike night to get used to playing with other musicians... I can safely say it was the best thing I ever did and funnily enough it was near you too. (White Swan on Stand Street in Radcliffe) Learning to jam really brought my playing on leaps and bounds and has made learning new songs a lot easier for me, plus there are always lots of musicians there to help you out. Most of the jam there is based around blues but there are a few people that like to do covers too. Get yourself along on a Tuesday night and have a go... relaxed atmosphere and good fun
Can you tell us a bit more about how this works, please? I might be interested in a visit to the White Swan. Do you need to take your own amp? What about taking music - would that be frowned upon? How does it actually work - do you walk in and say that you'd like to play bass to, say, Morcheeba "The Sea", and hope that other people can join in straight away!? I'm "playing" stuff like Coldplay "Yellow", Selecter "On my Radio", Walter Trout "Go the Distance", REM "Losing My Religion" - what would the reaction be? It would be the first time I'd played along with a group - very scary prospect! Steve
Ah! You did get it, then! I hope you like it! The thumbrest below the strings is a vaguely "retro" affectation upon which one rests their index/middle fingers and plucks the strings with a slightly hooked thumb. Fine if you play like this, but few do these days! Equally fine for the retro vibe! Fender moved the bar to above the strings, at which point it became a thumbrest between pickups and back edge of the the neck. This is an equally legitimate position for it, and it's arguably more appropriate to the majority of players! You haven't missed anything!!
Yes - I talked myself into buying it - and I'm really pleased. Compared to my Yamaha, the neck is wider (good for me), yet not as thick. Left hand is thus easier. Very smooth neck finish - lovely tactile feel to it. It's fairly heavy, and a little prone to some neckdive. However, an extra-wide padded strap has just about sorted this out. Rear pup was too uncomfortable as a thumbrest, and the side of the neck was too far forward, and too close to the strings - hence my need for a thumbrest. I was able to remove the screw in the mid-top of the scratch plate and use the hole for a single-hole thumbrest. I don't do drilling... Overall tone is warm and round. Top end lacks a little brightness, but I'm fine with that. New strings will probably help. It all feels very solid and heavy. I'm now struggling to play the narrower-necked Yamaha, but the Yamaha is a little better for funk grooves. I'll keep them both for now. Steve
haha thats the exact same as mine! My pickguard needed an extra few holes because its a 50's style reissue one. However i reckon a normal replacement should have the correct hole placement no problem. Though i pimped mine out with more gold hardware. I bought mine for £360 brand new. Heres the original post about pimping mine up. Hey guys. As in previous threads, I told the story of getting my beloved P bass back from a freind of mine and wanting to kit it out for 70's 80's Funk. Before picture., So i went about purchasing. A set of EMG's. £30 A gold Anodized scratchplate £15 Gold Pickup and bridge covers (The pickup one had to be gold plated as no one has ever manufactured them) £40 Gold plated thumbrest £12 Optima 24KT strings £32 The Emgs were awkward to get in and i had to rout out the wood to get the battery to fit. Plus i had to replace all the pots that came with it due to the originals being absoloutly terrible. Too bad my camera doesant pick up gold too well but here she is! The Emgs really give the P some treble bite which i love, Though due to the maple FB it gives a clanky bass, even more clank! Usually i would love it because of that but i wanted a Funk bass , I will get it sorted eventually! I do love the sound seriously Just need to fiddle with the action. I'll try and post better pics at somepoint. What do you think ? PS i know the Jack socket is chrome, trying to find a Gold one, But hell this bass is finished practically:P
Hi - I bought a new Hardpuncher just like yours for £300 last week. Great neck, and full, mellow sound. I was struggling a bit with my right hand positioning, so I put on a thumrest. Looking at your photos, I'm completely confused, because I've installed my thumbrest on the other side of (ie above ) the strings! Try as I might, I'm struggling to see why yours appears to be underneath the strings. I've probably missed something completely obvious here, but please will you help me to be less confused!? Steve

I've done a bit more research. Looking at the shape of the headstock, and the 1971 Gretsch catalogue, I think it may be a 6028. See http://gretschpages.com/history/memorabili...dorado-catalog/ Any body know how I might be able to get an honest market value for it, please? Steve
