Soundcity 120B SOLD SOLD SOLD

Right, i bought this from thornybank a few months back and only recently bought some valves for it. i've gigged it a few times and i just can't get along with it, it's just not my sound. it works absolutely perfectly and has a whole new set of valves in it. i'm looking for offers around the £300 mark. i will take some more pictures later on. thanks, Matt

anyone played recently at the water rats in london ?
matt_citizenbass replied to ahpook's topic in Gigs
yeah, the water rats is really renowned for having the most ridiculously stupid pay to play service. no one should have to do that. i once spoke to that tom guy on the phone (as mentioned above) and he said they require we sell no less than 50 tickets in advance other wise we won't be allowed on stage. he said he'll keep checking back on whether i think we can do it every month or so and he does each time i saw their number pop up i just let it ring. pay to play is the biggest joke ever -

I know Soundcity 120's are known to be noisy
matt_citizenbass replied to matt_citizenbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
well it is hum i guess. it's just extremely loud. i'm not too fussed about it now cause i like the live shows to be as noisy as possible but for recording i'll have to sort something out... but any suggestions are still welcome! -
i have had my soundcity head for ages but it hasn't had power amp valves in it until the other day. immediatly i fell in love with its tone and its power. the only problem is its ridiculously noisy like, so unbelievably impractical. i would never be able to record clean parts on this amp. i think it may be a factor of: a) me only playing the amp in completly silent rooms, in a normal gig atmosphere i don't think it'll be noticable i have the treble and presence on a high setting is there anyway i'd be able to maybe calm down the buzz in anyway? i don't think a noise gate pedal will do it because as soon as i switch it on it immediatly starts buzzing. thanks, Matt

The music industry and signing bands
matt_citizenbass replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
I was of the understanding that Indie labels all pretty much died out some years ago and all thats left is the Major's who are struggling. Is this not the case. Is the indie label scene pretty strong still?
the indie label scene is booming! we even watched a documentary on it in media! -
friday night, free bar, i can't remember whether i even used a pick! yeah thats how we roll!

played at the Freebutt, Brighton last saturday. Wasn't amazingly attended but it was still good fun and managed to make good use of the humungously wide stage!

thansk for the links guys, i'm not sure about this whole matching thing! what is it all about? so that doesn't mean i can buy (for instance) 6 different El34s from 6 different shops. or even a pack of 4 then a pack of 2?
-
i've finally sorted out a soundcity 120 from thornybank on here. only problem is it comes without valves. now this beast apparently takes 6 EL34s and 3 12AX7s where can i get these on the cheap? i'm not looking for absolute tone but i am looking for it to work so i can use it asap. any suggestions chaps/ettes? thanks, Matt
(Just to clarify, do you mean switching the two around or turning them 180 degrees, if that makes sense)?
turning them 180 degrees. tbh i don't see how it'll make any difference. i suppose you could always buy a compressor
-
apparently mark hoppus has "turned around" his pickups in his newest signature model in order to have an even volume over all strings. i used to have this problem with my stock jazz pickups but now i have a new one which seems to have a lower bass response so i get an even response.
if you don't mind a bit of grind in your sound
thats exactly what i want for the clean channel then the distortion channel will be face ripping -
i'm currently selling my head and have about £250 or so to spend on a old valve head. i'm worried about power though cause i've heard mixed views. some people say 50 watts is more than enough, and others say (well Ant) that 300 watts (all valve) isn't enough. what are your experiences?
