1. Try a wide necked guitar? My acoustic guitar has a wider neck than my Jazz, and a much wider neck than my Epi Les Paul, I find it much easier to play!
2. I agree with the previous comment of keep the amp and get a lightweight cab - I found my old GK Neo cab to give me the sound I always wanted, no cab since has matched it, regardless of the amp, and it was so easy to carry!
3. I'm working in Eindhoven this week, if I'm home next week (not sure yet!) I'll try to make it to the gig. The answer to this question is ALWAYS play the gig, and play it well, you never know who might be in the audience. I've travelled 120 miles to play to the soundman, wish we had 50 people at that gig!
4. I've had the battery in my Deluxe Active Jazz for about a year now, playing for 2-4 hours a week, no problems so far. When it starts to go, you'll hear loss of volume and clarity.
5. I was thinking of Carousel when I read 'simple basslines' too! I like the bass... but it needs a chrome control plate!
6. Never tuck my shirts in, so the only thing that could do the damage are buttons, but the plastic ones tend to be ok!
7. Surprised the MIM Jazz hasn't sold yet, a Fender for a Squier price!
8. Music Live is alright for a day out, but there's not a great deal of bass stuff.
9. There was a ska band in Telford called the Monotones that had a bass you'd like too!
10. http://www.nme.com/news/muse/45944 Not really a fan of Muse, a band I can listen to and enjoy but will never rush out to buy their CDs. Still, no denying Wolstenhome is a great bassist!
11. You Know When You're A Successful Bassist When...
8000 people are facing you and moving to your groove
12. Cubase LE, Guitar Rig LE, Behringer UL...something, jack to USB sound card type thing. £25 recording setup!
13. Nothing wrong with Mex's, just try before you buy. My Deluxe Active Jazz build quality is great, my old Mike Dirnt wasn't.
14. For £389 I'm sure you can get SWR, GK, Ashdown, Hartke, Peavey, Warwick... and a lot of nice second hand amps from here! Buying used is definitely going to get you better value for money.
15. Are Bugera amps just pricey Behringers? If so... avoid!
16. Still prefer the Epi Pros!
17.
Windowpane by Opeth.
Awesome song. Best on the album possibly. Anything by Pixies! Debaser, Gigantic, Where Is My Mind, Hey, all great simple bass lines.
18. Great idea, best 'free' promotion you can get, without a doubt.
19. He always looks so bored when he's on stage though, I always think why bother playing if you're not going to at least look like you're enjoying it!
20. Selling my old battered mid-80s Jap Jazz. It needed some fret work doing, and the output was weak, but I should have just waited until I could afford it, it was so light! Oh, and my GK 1001RB-II / Neo212 while I was out of work, but I fully intend to buy that rig again when I can afford it in a few years!
21. I didn't see a good shot of the headstock unfortunately but I did notice how nice it sounded!
22. I've just put some D'Addario XLs on one Jazz and some Elites on there other, both sound good! Got them from http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk - ordered on Wednesday and they arrived on Thursday, great service!
23. I find my active Jazz to be quieter than my passive Jazz, so use the 'passive' input on my amp for both.
24. Played my first gig with my latest band 'Liberation Works' tonight at the Varsity in Wolverhampton. Aside from a minor DI issue during the first song (I set the level to ZERO!!!! IDIOT!!!) it all went well! Really wish I'd warmed up because my wrist/forearm was killing me by the end of the set, time for the strap to get shorter I think! But all in all, a good night, had people up clapping and dancing, all we could ask for on our first gig. Looking forward to the next one now!
25.
I love that green jazz, Andriano is one of my favourite players too. He only seems to play precisions now though! I'm definitely liking the look of the Sunburst Geddy!
Ditto, a big influence on me, especially stuff like Goodbye Forever. He was back to the Jazz on the last tour.
