Concerning GK, I would recommend spending a bit extra and buying from the Artist series, rather than the Backline series you mention in your original post.
Agree 100%. I've never looked into it, but I'm sure you can pick up a 700RB and a cab within budget. But like others say, do you need a 2x10 and 1x15? I'd always had a 4x10 and 1x15, but dropped the 1x15 for smaller gigs. Came to realise I preferred not lugging that extra cab around and was after a 4ohm 4x10, until I tried the Neo 212. Gave me everything I was looking for with the added bonus of not needing help to carry my cab up the stairs at every venue!

I used Tunecore to get on iTunes (UK & US) and Amazon (UK & US). Hopefully they'll add Play.com too. Decent prices and no commision. But DittoMusic mentioned above seems pretty good too!

I've 'lived' in Luton for the past year, 5 days a week for work, then back home at the weekends, but finally escaping just after Christmas, thank god, what a hell-hole! Although, I will miss the Whitehouse and Coda Music at lunchtimes!

If you don't mind it in black it's £30 cheaper on SoundsLive.co.uk! http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~S...Amp~ID~6838.asp

Always loved the look of the Jazz, but could never get on with the neck, so my first purchase was an Ibanez instead, but slowly migrated back to that Jazz, despite prefering the fatter necked basses: Ibanez SR --> Squier P Special --> Shine bass (cheap backup) --> Warwick Rockbass Streamer --> Fender Mike Dirt P --> Fender Jazz --> Spector Legend --> Fender Deluxe Jazz.

I went to Birmingham. Never heard Cynic before, but they were pretty good, and the bassist was amazing. Opeth were awesome, definitely be seeing them again next time they're over.

My first ever bass was a SDGR 300FL, wish I'd never sold it. I'm very tempted by the SRX 08LTD, the black finish with red binding looks awesome, and at £229 would make a nice cheap backup bass.

Didn't bother this year for the first time in years, just seemed to be the same every year, and I'd only want to spend a grand I don't have on something I don't need.
I'm originally from Telford. Two of my fellow band members live in Telford and we've played at the Haygate ourselves in the recent past, hence my connection with the venue. I've heard good things about Bayonet. Vert were very good and the growly Warwick was indeed cutting through the mix nicely on the night. My favourite band of the night were Gone Til Winter. If you get the chance, check them out. I think they're supporting Blaze Bayley at JB's in November.
Me too! After posting in this thread, I realised my avatar pic is me playing at the Haygate! I'm back there on the 31st supporting Newbreed. I'll check out Gone Til Winter!

Wow, someone from outside of Telford actually ventured there for a gig! Shame you missed Bayonet, they're awesome, a punk band with some very well written songs. I used to live with Steve from Vert, but I haven't seen this lineup. However their old bassist Stratos was an amazing player, played a six string (Yamaha I think?) and added lots of melodic tapping to the songs. I'll be interested to see them with the new guy.
just found a pic....
That's what I use at practice! Piece of crap... can't get a good tone, can't get decent volume without distortion (even when turning the bass right down) and everything rattles. The other practice room has a Behringer... not sure which is worse.

Who actually feels 100% happy with what they've got?...
RussFM replied to Josh's topic in General Discussion
100% happy with my rig, and 100% happy with my tone... but just wish the neck on my Jazz was just a little fatter (not wider!). I have GAS for a Stingray and a Precision. -
Love the look of that black Attitude, not so keen on the BBs though. Billy's doing a clinic in Birmingham next week? Gutted, I'm on holiday!!

My band The Wait played four acoustic tracks live on BBC Radio Shropshire last night, you can listen back here (you'll need RealPlayer to play it): http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainframe.s...ay_gerbil_shrop There's an interview earlier in the show, but the first song starts at 1hr 18mins. No idea what the bass sounds like as I can't hear it through my laptop speakers, but sounded great in the studio - Deluxe Active Jazz DI'd post-EQ through my GK 1001 and probably plenty of studio EQing.

Ibanez Soundgear Fretless - my first bass Fender Mike Dirnt Precision - loved playing it, sounded great, but it was just so damn heavy! Spector Legend - Beautiful bass, fantastic neck, just didn't suit my plec style. Fender mid-80s Jap Jazz - should have stuck it in the wardrobe til I could afford the refret.

Genres - Albums that defined them (?)
RussFM replied to fusionbassist1's topic in General Discussion
EDIT : on the Punk issue. I started out on punk and would love to hear what albums the punks suggest. My cd collection currently rocks the clash - the clash + london calling and the stiff little fingers - inflammable material to name my past favourites. I also have an LP of nevermind the bollocks and a live stiffs album. There's no time limit on how long we want this genres project but we did try our best to prioritise the genres we know least. sorry if i offended any mohawk clad BC'ers
Well in that case, you're forgiven! Peronally, as much as I love them, I wouldn't include The Clash, because so many of their styles can be found in other types of music, and I'd have the punk section as good old fashioned plectrum playing downstrokes-only machinegun snare punk. That said, two of my album choices are much more melodic: Hot Water Music - Caution Alkaline Trio - Goddamnit The Bouncing Souls/Anti-Flag - Split (2 bands for the price of one, with an awesome Buzzcocks cover!) -

What, no punk?
