1. Yeah I sold mine for £200 last year, practically new after deciding it wasn't the bass for me.
2. Definitely go Neo if you're considering the GK, not only is it lighter, but it sounds better (in my opinion!). Not tried the 700, but never had any problem with my 1001 and love the tone.
3. I had no part in that I assure you!
4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqg-FBzaFe8 Our album should be available on iTunes by the end of next month, but to start promoting it we've put together this video. Proper cheap!
5. Can't remember his name, but the guy from Bouncing Souls is pretty good. Always like Rise Against's basslines too.
6. An Ibanez Soundgear Fretless (yep, learnt on a fretless!) that I bought in 97/98 for £300. Ended up selling it in 2001 for about £200. Wish I still had it, had a great neck, but I needed two fretted basses for gigging so it had to go.
7.
I've just rackmounted my 1001RB. The fan is on the top, so I've not put anything for 1 rack space above. I have a half-space wireless unit with rackmounting kit. The kit puts the half unit to one side and would fit above the GK without blocking the fan. However, the kit would blank out the front of the rackspace and would restrict the flow of air around the GK. Has anyone got any experience of this, or know how temperamental the GK can be about "fresh air"?
I don't rack mount anymore. but I used to do exactly that with an AKG wireless, never had any problems!
8. I reeeeeeally want one!!
9. Opeth - Watershed. Absolutely amazing album, this one's staying in the CD player til Christmas!!
10.
pmd
I'd buy it if I could get to Norfolk! Nice looking bass!
11. You won't have any problems with the punchiness of the 212, it's way better than a standard speaker. I'd go for another Neo 212 for sure.
12. I bought this bass a couple of years ago with the intention of getting it set up, including fret work, but unfortunately I need to sell of one of my instruments and this is the one to go. E serial (so 1984-1987) Made In Japan Fender Jazz. Has EMG Select pickups and tort scratchplate, everything else original. It's quite light, compared to my other Jazz. I don't know the history of the instrument, but it's got more than a few battle scars, so has done some serious gigging. When I got it there was some green felt on the back, which I took off to find some buckle rash, and flaking paint, so I put the tape on to stop it getting any worse. It's probably been dropped at some point, as there's been a small crack at the headstock which has been repaired, and a crack in the body at the neck join. Plenty of dents and cracks in the paint, this bass has done some miles, but the only thing that affects playabilty is the fret work - a few a quite worn, so it does need some work before any studio work, but I've played it live a few times as my backup bass and it's been fine. Hopefully the attached pics show the condition of the bass well. All said, it's a great bass, and I just wish I had the time and money to fix it up. £275, and I'll throw in a Fender Deluxe gig bag. Prefer not to post it without a hard case, so the buyer can collect either from Wolverhampton at weekends, or I'm in Luton during the week for work.
13. Take The Power Back. Best bass line on RATM.
14. I'd love to add the 112 to my 1001 & 212, but just can't afford it at the moment. But like you say, ever played a venue the 212 couldn't cope with, just looks good!
15. I haven't been in two years, but my girlfriend got some free tickets, so I'll be there on Sunday! I think I'll be leaving the credit card at home...
16. All you need is a Neo112 surely!
17. They're £200 cheaper at Coda Music than the Bass Centre. I'm very tempted! http://www.coda-music.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=27_128
18. Arrived this morning, very happy with it! Cheers Ron!
19. I picked up my Gallien Krueger 1001RB-II and Neo 212 for less than £1000 (via Soundslive.co.uk and Thomann.de). Highly recommended. Very portable, very loud (700w), and a fantastic sound. You could even go for the 700RB-II and a couple of Neo 112s if you wanted even more portability, still kicks out 480w, with the advantage of only using one cab for 320w whenever needed. Wish that's what I'd done now, not that I'm unhappy with the bigger version, just I don't drive so rely on other people to cart my gear around.
20. I'm after one of those! PM'd!
21. I've got a 1001RB-II and Neo212. Can't fault them, and I'll never play anything else now. Spent some time in the studio recently and the producer commented on how good it sounded. The cab is easy to shift on your own, is very loud, and crystal clear. Buy one now!
22. Found this '1960 vintage reissue' - http://www.grouseguitars.com.au/sold/fenderjazzwhitejap.htm. I see the strap pin on the headstock there. Mine originally had a white scratchplate, and there's more written on the headstock there, so it can't be one of those. But it's entirely possible it is a reissue, I don't know a lot about it.
23. I've had this mid-80s Japanese Fender Jazz for quite a while now, but rarely gets played because it's in pretty bad condition, so I'm going to get it sorted and start gigging with it again. If this was your bass, what would you do to it to fix it up, and how much do you think it's worth now, and after the work? Serial number E968125. The reason I'm asking what you think it's worth, is because I don't want to spend more on it fixing it up than it's worth in the first place! Here are the problems... The original pickups have been replaced with 'Select by EMG's (although they sound pretty good!) The paint is cracked on all edges, with plenty of dents. It's clearly been dropped at some point (or thrown judging by the damage!?), as there's a crack at the headstock (only small, and has been fixed), and at the neck joint (not fixed, doesn't appear to be any problem). Pretty bad buckle rash on the back, which was originally covered with green felt. I took that off, but the paint was quite flakey on the edges, so I've covered it with gaffer tape just to stop it getting any worse. The headstock is in pretty bad shape - dents and knocks all over it, and a decent sized gouge along the bottom edge (what used to be in that screw hole by the way?). The machineheads work, but have seen better days. The E string peg isn't quite 90° to the headstock, it's bent slightly forward and doesn't stay in tune as well as the others. The neck has a few grooves along the top edge, and plenty of dents and scratches along the back. But the fretboard is in decent nick, with only two noticable marks, above the 12th fret, possibly where the strings have banged into the neck during a drop. However, the frets themselves are in pretty bad shape. Some of them are very badly worn, mostly around the first five frets. The end strap pin is loose, and it's been threaded, so can't be tightened. The original white scratchplate was pretty dirty and scratched, but was replaced with the tort one by the previous owner. I don't want to get rid of it, because it's very light, comfortable to play, and has plenty of mojo! but I do want it to be playable. I've got my Mex Active Deluxe for recording, and this will mostly be used for gigs. I'll be taking it to my local reputable music shop next weekend, asking them to sort the frets (I expect to need a complete refret), fix the strap pin, and give it a good setup. But what else should I do? Should I replace the machineheads, or keep them original, should I get some better pickups, etc? The bridge, controls, etc, all appear to be fine, and I know it was never going to keep it's value like a US Fender, but I think I'd prefer to keep it as original as possible all the same. Besides, a shiny new Bad Ass would look out of place on the battered body, so all suggestions welcome, but I probably won't be doing anything too extreme to it!
24. You'll be wanting a biography (pad it out as much as possible, big yourselves up as they say!), a gigs list, a photo and a demo. The bio should mention any positive reviews, or even just comments from reputable sources, like a local promoter. Hope that helps!
25. I really want it, but the girlfriend says 'we' don't need three Fender Jazzes.
