1.
That would have sounded HUGE through the Mesa Carbine! How's the new rig?
The Jonas is clean, powerful, dynamic, warm..................I could go on.................its the best period. Seriously I cant find a single thing to complain about it.................and that's rare according to my wife.!!!!!!
2. Bought a new Fender American Standard P5 2 weeks ago and strung it with TI flats today......................what a great sound, everyone should have a P bass....better still a P5.
3.
Love TIs, the LaBellas were too deep for me. I found the TIs had a nice click to them as well as plenty of bottom end, and they're soft and flexible too, which I like. They were just fab on my Lakland JO4. I'm thinking of putting them on my P bass at some point once the Slinkys have gone off.
Love TI's also........Today I put TI flats on my P5 and I can understand why everyone ( well almost ) love these strings. They may be expensive but they play like a dream. Im loving It.
4.
Hah! I've looked at your better photo now.. I've played with worse.. If it plays, feels and sounds good then go for it... if it breaks get a different string. Well, that'd be my approach.
Agreed......................just play the thing.
5. I have a NEW set of Sandberg strings ( 5 ) and another one week old taken off a Spector NS-5xl. £13 including postage for BOTH sets. Thanks. Marc
6.
Hi Marc, I think most 'Long Scale' strings refer to 34". I've found this problem on some sets and not on others. I think as long as you don't go off the main body of the string you're ok. I've got a DeArmond and an Overwater at 35"; both happy with Hartke, Picato and (of course) Overwater strings.
Its just on the boarder going from the main winding to a tapered part. It seems to not make a difference to the tone or playability so Im thinking it MIGHT be OK. If not it was a very expensive try for TI PowerBass strings.
7. Hi Guys, Can anyone shed some light on this... I restrung my Spector NS-5xl with TI POWERBASS strings and I had to shave a little of the silk wrap of the B string at the nut. The set was Long scale and the bass is 35". Never had this problem with other makes.....will it effect the sound?? On trying it seems not to. What do other NS-5xl users use for strings ? Thanks.
8. Today I put a set of TI flats on my new USA standard P5 and Im in flat heaven. Tis thump tastic.
9.
The 60s bridge pickup is nearer the scratchplate (I have a CIJ 62 RI) than the 70s - judging visually against mine I'd guess there's maybe 15 mm in it
Thanks........you learn something new each day.
10.
I'd love to see how they compare to a MIJ '75 Jazz RI. In price, the MIJ is somewhere halfway inbetween the MIM and the MIA. I wonder if the same goes for quality and workmanship. I've heard lots of good things about the MIM and in its specifications it's actually closer to a real '70's Jazz than the MIJ, if only because of the authentic pickup placement (on the MIJ, the bridge pickup is in its regular '60's position).
I didn't know there was a difference in the pickup position....explain please. Thanks.
11. I have this little beauty...... http://www.cafewalter.com/ha1/index.htm Very rare here in the UK. It is very very good, transparent, detailed and very dynamic. 3 weeks ago I put it up against my friends Musical Fidelity X-can, this retailed at £500 and my little Cafe Walter simply smashed it when we put them head to head with a quality £200 pair of headphones.
12.
todd over at statti has one, here some video of him playing.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg68MbmDZGY&NR=1
Thats the first time I have seen anyone play a Fly...sounds really clean, punchy and very bright. Dont think its for me, I'm going the other way.....passive with lots of bass thump. Also looks very uncomfortable to play due to the strange body shape. Still would be nice to have one in a collection......to much GAS. Thanks to all that have replied....good to see we all have an opinion.
13. I've got a Windmill Jazz for sale on the bay. Width at the nut 39mm. Width at the 22 fret 64mm. Depth of neck including the fret at the nut is 22mm. It feels a little fatter than a standard Jazz. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110396075125 Pm if you want to try it. Thanks
14. What a beautiful bass.....are you in the UK.
15. I really like this bass. If it had 5 strings and 34/35" scale it would be heaven.
16. Think I'm going off the idea.
17. Thanks for the info guys..... Has anyone had a good experience of the Fly ?
18.
I've had a quick noodle on a 4, once you pick it up and cant see its "only its mother would love it looks" it played very nicley, quite hi-fi sound IIRC. Bit of change for you tho' isn't it Marc, cant see that going down well with the blues players, they'd probably spit beer all over the shop when you take it out the bag........?
Very true mate......think it might be just a little to modern for them to handle. Might have to rethink......
19. I'm on the look out for my next bass......Was looking for a 5 string Jazz or may be another Spector...then this jumped up at me. Has anyone tried a Parker Fly 5 ??? Thanks Guys.
