1. Guys, can you help. What is your recommended sites for music storage ? My band has finished an EP and I want to use online storage so that I can link it to Facebook / MySpace etc. Thanks.
2. Please introduce yourself and tell us all about your band and music. Have fun and join in.
3. Yep. The problem I have found with wattage is that it does not indicate how loud the combo will go. No one knows how that figure of 80 watts was measured and the loudness is also controlled by the sensitivity of the drive unit. Most 80 watt ( budget ) combos will barely keep up with a drummer, even at moderate practice levels. I would get anther bass player or shop to give it a once over to make sure it is not faulty or damaged. Hope this helps.
4. How about an Ibanez TS9 b. It's just as you described. Subtle overdrive with a hint of fuzz and very sensitive to the players touch.
5. For me there is only one shop.... Mansons in Exeter.
6.
Great bass...what's the piezo system?
It's a pickup under the bridge like an electric acoustic guitar. It gives a very pure tone that has a ringing / reverb sound that hangs onto the end of the higher notes, again very like an acoustic guitar.
7. Thought I would share my Shuker Artist 6. I chambered body light weight six string with Delano and Piezo pickups. 8.
Build it myself. More details about this bass.
Really like this bass.
9.
RIP Ray. The Doors changed my life, many years ago.
+1 Very sad day.
10. £400 - £450 tops for a fortress. I had one ten years ago and they are great basses.
11.
I thought you were after a B3K? They are quite different
Looking for either.
12. Here is a few pictures of my 65 Amps Apollo head. 50 watts of valve goodness. 13. Keep us posted as I might be in the market for one.
14. Thats what I thought. Could cut and paste and use google translation.
15. I've just used these guys... http://www.creativecontrolstudio.com/ Good rates and you will get a quality sound. Based in Bracknell. Very near M3 and M4. We recorded a demo there last weekend and were very impressed with the experience. The owner / engineer / guitarist is called Al. Hope this helps.
16.
So, the MXR M87 arrived this morning (thanks Alex_1_2_3 for lightning fast delivery!) and I have spent some time playing with it..... As I was setting the unit up, I realised that I could use the input gain LEDs to provide a visual indication of the pickup's relative outputs. A quick pan between piezo and mag revealed that it is definitely the mag pickup that causes the output imbalance, the B, E and A strings generated far more energy, so I have spent some time adjusting the angle of the pickup to balance the strings more evenly. It isn't perfect, but it's a lot better, and it means I can use the compressor to clean up the output in a subtle way. Job done I think.
Great news Gareth, that's the best way to use a compressor. Check the gain reduction meter, adjust pickups to balance output and use a subtle compression setting... Perfect fat punchy sound.
17. Mine is unlined and I was worried at first. If you think about it when you play you can't see the lines as the finger board is facing away from you. Once you get over the fear of not seeing the lines it really is easy. Use your ears to hear the note , if you are out just move your finger a bit and you will hit the note. After a very short time you won't look back.
18. Is this still available ?
19.
Ampeg PF500 and whichever matching cab takes your fancy (1x15 or 2x10). I use the 1x15 version of this for rehearsals etc and it's a perfectly good substitute for the Boogie rig I use live - even used the Ampeg for a couple of smaller gigs.
+1 The PF500 and 1x15 cab is a great light weight combo that will cope with rehearsals and small gigs.
20.
Hi guys Thanks for the comments. I am familiar with the pickup height as a possible solution, but know it won't work on this bass, as it has both mag and piezo pickups and the D and G strings are weak whichever pickup I use. The Origin looks huge! I am liking the MXR as a smaller option and it seems to have a pretty comprehensive feature set. Cheers Gareth
I have the same thing with my G and C strings on the Artist as it also has a piezo pickup. A little LIGHT compression helps to "lower" the volume of the other strings to balance out the sound. This will also add punch and clarity to the overall sound. The MXR would be my choice over the Origin.
21. My experience so far is that there's 3 types of band members. There's musicians, singers & guitarists. The latter 2 can sometimes be musicians, but it seems to be very rare! So true.
22. Hi Gareth, I've had just about every compressor on the market and finally settled on an Origin Cali 76... http://www.origineffects.com/Cali76.php Others that I would have from your list are the MXR for transparency and LED metering and the EBS for price and the tube like setting. Also both are battery powered. Checkout these reviews ... http://www.ovnilab.com/ Hope this helps. Marc
23. If I was 17 again I would join. My kind of 80's music. They were the days, dyed black crimped hair, black makeup and heavy black coats..... Now I'm a balding old fart into jazz and quiet music. How sad.... Why do we have to grow up.
24. Think of it as being like the ads on telly. The peaks in volume are the same as the programmes but the average volume is raised because of the compression they apply to the sound. Great way of explaining SS v Valve loudness.
25.
I've known about this for some time as I asked Jon Shuker if he could make me a lightweight, 5-string Jazz bass. He mentioned he was prototyping a new bass for JJB and explained how the body was going to be constructed. Sounded perfect for me as well so I asked him to build similar for me although I'm going for a slightly downsized Jazz-style body instead of the P bass shape and a set-neck which means even more weight saving. Jon seems fairly optimistic he can get close to a 7 lb bass for me. Still a couple of months to completion (I must chase him up on progress) but I'll post an update/review when I pick up the bass. Specs are: 5-string Jazz body with set neck. Flamed maple neck with vintage tint, rosewood board & MOP blocks. Finished in Sonic Blue with matching head stock & a Tort plate. I'm going for an extra mint green plate too and decided on a P/J configuration with a passive-only circuit, so vol/pan/tone controls. Oh and some neck LED's to finish it all off! Cannae wait.
A six string version could be my next bass.
