could you do it with the eq pots emg do ...a simple swap out?? EMG active pots
The plan is to put an EMG BTS system active preamp instead of the Spector TonePump and replace the 40DC's with the 40J's. Just need to find someone to trade my 40DC's for 40J's.

If anyone has a 40J, 40CS or 40P5 that they want to trade for a 40DC just let me know. Marc
Are EMG's just as good as their made out to be??
Yes, if you like a very clean punchy sound.
the 40DC are the 5 string version of the 35 right? if so, there the ones Im considering upgrading to. What is it about them that you dont like?
You are right the 40's are the 5 string version of the 35's. Its not that I dislike the sound, it is very full, clear and punchy. I was considering a more mellow, traditional sound.......maybe Jazz or P bass like. The great thing about EMG's is, if you dislike the sound or fancy a change its a simple swap over. Hope this helps.
I recently fitted the 40 P5 and J into my Crafter fretless 5, to much acclaim from bands in which I use it! If you get Up North, you're welcome to try it, but basically it gives the sounds you'd expect plus that extra range afforded by EMGs. On my main bass - heavily modded Ibanez Roadster - I have the 35DC and J. I'd suppose you'd say the P5 just gives that bit more P-bass tone while the DC is maybe a tad more MM. Both very usable combos anyway.. best of luck! HUGH
Thanks Hugh.........great advice. Marc
Do those ones run at 18v? If they'll take it, might be worth giving it a try, the extra headroom might get rid of the compresssion you might hear as 'unnatural' http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39906
It does run on 18 volts. The sound of the 40DC is very clean. Im looking for a more traditional tone....

Hi Guys, I have a Spector with EMG 40DC pickups and want to change to a more traditional sound. Has anyone changed or heard the 40J (single coil) or 40 CS (steel) or the 40P5 (split coil). Thanks. Marc

Hi Guys, I have a Cyrus AV master in black finish for sale. It is NEW with a sealed box. Retail is £800, will take £550 posted or trade for a 5 string SPECTOR. The Cyrus AVMaster 8 is a unique product and offers outstanding performance. Basically, adding this to a stereo amp will give you a 5.1 Digital Surround sound system. With three (configurable) built in amplifers and a high quality decoder, Cyrus appear to have thought of everything. Even more importantly Cyrus have done so without compromising sound quality; which is what you'd expect from them all along. Cyrus have even provided two direct analogue inputs, which bypass all circuitry other than the volume control. The end result is that when you choose to listen to music; you do so without the compromise that dogs the heels of so many home cinema systems. Sound quality is exceptionally good, to say we are impressed with this unit is an understatement. It allows you to have home cinema and yet still own a good stereo system - without paying an absolute fortune. We applaud Cyrus for getting it right, and at such a reasonable price. Cyrus AV Master 8.0 - Digital AV Decoder Adding a new AV Master to your stereo system brings the latest digital surround sound technology to your home. We have designed the controls so it’s very easy to use, even setup is a simple process due to a wizard on the screen that helps guide you through the setup process. Designing a system around the new AV Master There are 3 main ways to build a Master Series system around an AV Master. Because you can switch the 3 internal amps to drive different speaker channels, you can use the AV Master in a number of ways and upgrade later as well. Here are some examples; High quality compact system At its simplest, all you need is a Discmaster and an AV Master for a very compact and high quality music and movie system. The AV Master’s 3 built-in user configurable channels of amplification could power your centre, front left and right speakers to provide a 3 channel system, which can have rear speakers added at a later date if you would like to move up to 5.1 surround sound. (Later this year Cyrus will be launching a set of wireless speakers that would fill this role very easily and discretely.) Expand an existing stereo system If you have an existing stereo system (even non Cyrus), you can add the AV Master to upgrade to 5.1 channels. The AV Master’s internal amps run your centre and rear speakers, and your existing system drives the front left and right. If you want a more sophisticated AV experience, then you could upgrade to 7.1 speakers and the internal amps can be re-configured to fit with power amps. The AV Master is now the centre of the system, with up to 6 sources connected, each sounding better because of our advanced up-sampling circuitry. Advanced systems will typically be specified with more demanding speakers, so the AV Master has outputs for bigger power amplifiers to be connected. Adding larger amps may ultimately replace all the internal amps (you can switch them off) with power amplifiers from the main hi-fi range. The largest systems could include many power amps that will aid dynamics and drama. The inherent high performance of both the Master Series components means that even our most compact systems impress because they are built to be more than capable in the very largest installations. The upgrade path ensures that your investment is protected and remains valuable for many years to come. Many of our customers start with small hi-fi systems and once they ‘get the bug’, they keep upgrading over years and sometimes even generations!
Interesting stuff indeed! I'd love to hear how it sounds. Good luck with the sale on this one. A bargain of a price.
It has a very unique sound.....very strong woody mids and a lean but articulate bass with a hifi top end. I have not heard another bass that comes close to this sound. It really is unique.

Thank you to all the basschatters that have offered a cash deal or trade. I have thought long and hard about replacing this wonderful Sandberg. Idealy I need £1050 for a new 5 string Sandberg or a trade for a Jazz style 5 string. It must be 35" scale with 17mm spacing at the bridge. If anyone has a 5 string that matches my requirements please get in touch.........if not then you still can get this fantastic bass for HALF price at £1050. Thanks. Marc
Fantastic looking bass this. I noticed you have a fretted Thinline too. I can't say I've ever seen a fretted one; custom option from the factory? 'Ave a bump.
THanks for the nice comments......the Thinline has been fretted by a local guy, I just couldn't get on with a fretless board. I have been told by Sandberg its the only one that they know of with frets....very unique as I have also added a coil tap and a BURFORD MID CHOKE. This little box removes all of the Mid frquencies to give a dark sound.
