1. Right, its definatly going this time. no longer just a feeler. Im trimming down my gear. also getting rid of my Marshall VBA400 with VBC412 cab for something smaller and selling my Marshall (guitar) 100HDFX head with 412 cab if your into that sort of thing. GV-2 overdrive pedal, Boss Flanger pedal too.
 2.
whereas at the other end of the scale, these cheaper rays seems have popped up, looks lovely too - £689... http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~M...st~ID~11410.asp
Anyone played these Stirling by Musicman basses? im guessing they are gonna be better then OLP's
 3.
They do the 9 months interest free scheme, so it would make it a little more easily affordable. It's not that much more than they seem to go for on the bay. I am considering buying from here, but obviously travel and availability are considerations. I definitely won't buy without trying.
Ive bought every bass ive owned but 1 off this forum, + 2 amps + pedals + cables + Loads of bits for my P bass. Everyone ive met and delt with has been unbelieveably sound.
 4. Looks ok, but you get get them off ebay for a little cheeper. But saying that I wouldnt buy a bass I hadnt played first. I made that mistake with a bongo and I wont do it again. Always bought really nice basses from this forum and you dont get any bullshit either like you do in online shops/ebay.
 5.
Could be because so far Sounds Live are doing UK list price whereas Guitar Center are alredy discounting madly in desperation to sell something they don't even appear to have in stock!
Reading the EBMM forums at work today (sadly this site is blocked at work) and I dont think they are out yet by the sounds of it. some guy had the extra pickguards posted but not the bass as of yet
 6.
Somebody switch the lights on in the design dept, so they can see what they're doing!!!
lol, looks to me like they stole the AL guitar body and slapped a stirlin neck on it with 25th anniversary pups. Prefer the new 25th anniversary bass but once again... expensive.
 7. Only just noticed the Big-Al bass today, Musicman Big Al so I was looking on the tinterweb for price, why is it STUPIDLY expensive in the UK??? USA...$1680 Guitar Center UK...£2569 Soundlive £1154.50 in america, more then double over here. Does this seam stupid to anyone else? Id love to play one then maybe fly to america and pick one up, but I cant see many bass shops having these in their shop in the first place. Massive shame. Correct me if im wrong.
 8.
Me: but if your gunna spend £1000 on a bass, and not put time n effort into learning, then whats the point? all i meant by that is... whats the point of having an amazing bass sitting in the corner looking pretty, and it not being played? you do get them. Z
My Stingray sits in a corner rairly being played, its just nice to know its there if I want it, but my Flea is much nicer to play so I play that far more (altho I prefer the tone from the stingray)
 9.
Think someone's having you on with the 1955 Les Paul bass bit - Gibson did n't make 'em till 1969.
I was pretty drunk so I may have got the date wrong. is WELL vintage tho, the fretboard has groves on the 5th and 7th fret at the bottom from wear of her fingers over the years. and its a nice shade of tobacco brown altho it was originally white.
 10. My gear MASSIVLY outweighs how good I am. But I have a lot of spare cash and I like nice things so why not spend it on things you love? Check my sig.. you would have thought id have been in a band at some point gigging.... oh no, 100% bedroom use. (Edit: and down the practice room.) closest ive got to a gig is the other night I asked a bassplayer after their set what bass it was cause I play... she threw it on me and made me play infront of everyone. bit unnerving to say the least as it was a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Bass and ive never stood infront of 150 people and played before. ive got a pic of the bass on my phone if anyones interested. But yeah, im a sh*te bass player compaired to my gear... to prove a point, I just paid £875 for a 2nd hand Roland electric drumkit even though I cant play drums. But how I see it is like this... you buy 2nd hand, play it for however long you want then generally you can sell it for the same price you bought it. Much better then money in the bank. edit: Cheeper Gear seams to loose value much more then mid/high end 2nd hand stuff.
 11. Anything but sunburst.... wait... my main bass is a type of sunburst... oh well... at least its not a Fender
 12.
What would MacGyver do...?
My guitarist Bluetacked his pickups in about 3 years ago... still going strong!
 13.
I'd take the EQ settings back to 12 o'clock and start again Turn off the bright setting too, just use the EQ Is that your wish list or actual basses, 'cos you got some active beasts in there too ! I'm afraid you going to have to sit down and have a tinker at volume ideally. If you have the treble full up un your basses I'd back that off some as well. Finally take all FX out of the loop until you get a tone your happy with then introduce them back in one at a time.
haha, nahh not a wish list, unfortunatly I own basses which far outweigh how well I play. The flea is 18v and I just cant get what I want out of it tone wise like I could with the stingray, I think I should have stuck with the Bongo altho the B string wasnt being used as much as it should. but the action on the ray is massive compaired so it makes me wanna play the flea. Im not using all the pedals, just the zoom atm, I have most things on flat but ive had to turn the bass down a little on the amp cause the neighbours hate me slapping out naked in the rain or Aeroplane. I used to dip the mid a little and add a little treb on the 'ray but like I said I dont really play that as much anymore. I love playing the flea but like I said, I cant figure out how to get it sounding nice at all. plays beautifully tho.
 14.
Try picking nearer the bridge. If you naturally pick hard, that's the only way you're going to stop the strings bouncing around so much. Also try turning up if you can't hear yourself properly. You might be digging in too much to compensate for your low level in the mix without realising it.
Sorry, I ment with my fretting hand i get too much string noise, I play pretty much play between the humbucker and the bridge anyways except if i wanna play soft.
 15. ive been playing 3 years or so, but im terrible with EQ. I dont play gigs so ive never really had to pay about with it that much apart from the practice room etc.... what am I doing wrong when you hear lots of string noise? meaning you hear my fingers going up and down the strings etc. I know I can change my tech to stop it but playing fast I find it hard. im guessing to get dif sounds I can play with the EQ but im not sure whats best, meaning if I want more treb I can cut the bass or increase the treb, but does anyone have a list pre sa saying what type of tone you will get from modifying what treb/mid/bass knob? Massivly noob questions I know but im sick of fiddling with it and not getting anywhere. Thanks for your help in advance.
 16.
those mini Marshall clip on amp thingies will not handle bass... I've tried it... they don't like it at all...
Crap Thanks for the heads up, I nearly bought one today
 17.
It only buzzes why I get really, really enthusiastic... I took the relief up to get rid of the buzz, perhaps you should have looked at a proper setup job first before burning it. I always carry the allen key anyway as the acoustic is slightly prone to needing adjustment when traveling (something to do with the humidity by the river or sea).
it would cost more then the bass to get it properly set up, was only £50. I played around with the action and relief but nothing seamed to work, its as if they just got random sized bits of metal and hammered it into the neck. it was all over the place. im not bothered if the sound is terrible for the mini amp, just need the loudz for when playing with an acoustic guitar around camp fires. ive got a little peavy 50watt for late night home use. altho sounds like sh*t too, but what can you do when the only other alternitive is a 400watt Marshall 412. :S
 18. it looks like cheep tack. £500? id rather buy a 2nd hand 'ray for that. I think ill stick to my modulus fleabass
 19. electric isnt really an option, im not taking my Flea bass or stingray to a festival and its pointless buying a cheepo P bass or something just for that cause it wont be used anywhere else. an acoustic would be cool just for when I dont wanna warm up the marshall in the house for a quick play, plus the neighbors will be happy with that. Fretless is an option, but I struggle with my unlined P bass, so lined would be better. would prefer a fretted one tho I think just for ease of play when drunk.
 20.
Hey, well if its for sitting round a at a festival in camp... is there a chance it'll end up in the fire again? Don't you think ebay might be a good idea again? lol Z x
you have a point, but the reason it went on the fire was because the action was TERRIBLE with fret buzz on 95% of the strings. suppose thats what you get from ebay. couldnt ask for more for £50. wouldnt mind keeping it this time though, my guitardist aways gets the acoustic out late at night and it would be cool to be heard unplugged.
 21. Morning all. Ive had one acoustic bass which was a £50 ebay job for playing about around a camp fire... altho it was better as timber then it was at playing shown in the below picture. I noticed a lack of LOUDZ among other issues with the bass. im thinking electro acoustic with mini marshall clip on guitar amp thing for my next purchace? Any recomondations for a half decent bass and travel amp (batterys only) for sitting round a fire at a festival??? I dont really have a budget, anything below £500. but cheep and good will do! (I dont use a pick so im guessing I need the amp?) thanks guys
 22.
Stick with the old sponge otherwise you will not get THE TONE!
+10000000000000 but on a serious note, I might get my wetsuit and scissors out.
 23. anywhere within 1.5hour drive is cool with me. peterbrough is within that. Oh wait, I moved to sheffield. er... yeah, should be fine.
 24. Signed, Wiki "The Valve Sound System is a touring sound reinforcement system specifically designed for the playback of drum and bass music. Created by UK artists, Dillinja and Lemon D, the system has a total power output of 120kW. The system consists of 52 subwoofers (designed and built for the valve system) as well as Mid-High cabs made by Funktion One. The full system is not used in smaller venues. It was designed exclusively for drum and bass acoustics and as such is the first of its kind." I went to one in sheffield student union, my god it was loud, couldnt get near the front cause it hurt, but they gave you ear plugs on the way in, and they make you aware its damaging to your health. I dont what the problem is.
