The only other plexy glass one ive seen is "worth" £100. what makes this so special or is someone having a go.
2. thank you all for your kind words. Im really pleased with it, Think im going to leave it be now, just the string tree to fit and its done. Oh could do with setting up a little better but ill get round to that. I got STOO's Olp 'ray on friday and I havent played it for more then 30mins cause im so happy with the P.
3. Sound clip If you wanted to hear how it sounds, Im rather supprised how good it sounds as the electronics are done my me and the pups are only MIM. Oh and sorry for my bass playing, im not quite used to not having lines.
4. got the badass off Basschat, forgot who... Burpster!! (pretty sure) I took a few pics without the knobs and strap things off, but if you look down the last few pics have them on. the scratchplate is the original that came with the bass, its not a very nice colour, some kind of cream, I want a black one really... Gold you say??? Would gold work??? problem with that is id have to change the bridge and knobs for gold ones and I just got them lol. The white/cream looks of for now till I can figure out how to paint it, Been told if I rough it up with some 320 grit or something, it should be ok to paint. But the current scratchplate is growing on me. Oh and Finbar.... it looks 10 times better in real life. got a few bits that could be better on the paint, few tiny dots in it and at somepoint its had a knock neer the pups and slightly indented, but you can only see it at a weird angle. Ill be in sheffield next weekend if you wanna take a look at it. Wouldnt mind checking out your Shucker build when you get that too! monday isnt it?
5. ahhhh, it was the cammeras fault it looked blue, Grabed another digital cam and took 2 more pics, you can see the colour much better then before.
6. Is it just my Pc or does it look blue? I its more this colour...
7. Well, got up this morning, went for my first Bass lesson, turns out i have "a great technique" which supprised me. anyways I digress, I got home at 11, pollished the body, put the tuners on, put the bridge on, got to 12 midday, Did half the wiring and thought.. hold up.. if this diagram right? went on fender site.. turns out it wasnt right so started again and did it like the fender site said. this took till 9pm... yes 9 hours lol. put the pups on, wired them up, put it all together and... suprizingly IT WORKS!!!!!! even with my dodgy soldering skills it sounds fantastic. Im really suprised actually, I expected it to sound terrible cause I know nothing about putting a bass together. The tone is fantastic, goes from a bright clean sound, to a Wahhhh sound (which I only thought you got with an effects pedal) to a deep metalica type of deep slight destortion. Its emense. Oh yeah, after the strings were on I though.. lets see how far out it is, the action is perfect stright off the bat. the A string at the 12th fret is a little out but the saddle just needs moving 1-2mm. Spot on. I really expected this bass just to look pretty and to sound terrible, but im so pleased with the sound. Probably more then how it looks. Oh yeah, went to the bass shop this morning for my lesson and picked up a few parts, turns out my scratchplate is totaly diff size to a fender one and a cheep copy one. looks like im gonna have to spray this one.. which doesnt sound fun as its "formica" (I dont know how to spell it) and thats hard to spray supposedly as it peels off. Just got the scratchplate to do and I forgot to put the string tree round thing on. but apart from that... ITS DONE!!!
8. wierd because ive got great gear but sound perthetic
9. 550?? where are you looking? I saw a Sub go for 450 last week and ray's go for 600-50
10. W00P Got an extra string to play with now and an extra Humbucker. Sucks im stuck at work and I cant plug it in and make a mess of playing a low B. Ill have a play tonight, doubt its gonna be anything like my other stingray but im sure it'll be fun as hell to play about with. Active too, im already thinking about upgrading it and I havent even heard it yet haha.
11. Nice fella, pleasure to trade with. Hope you enjoy the fretless Jazz mate, and your night out in Liverpool tonight. The OLP 5HH is spot on, cheers!!
12.
Some are very, very good. Some aren't. QC is somewhat touch and go, to the extent that they've recently lost their licence to produce the instruments.
hoping its a good one, should be here in about an hour.
13. some jazz's have a hole where its been produced... This is a MIM jazz, not sure on a Geddy Lee, just take a screwdriver to it, wont take long. this is mine (well untill a few hours when im trading it)
14.
Ready Freddie Washington's part from Forget Me Nots I know loads of people seem to have this off pat but I've never been a slapper so can't even get close to a version like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmlImQTRlio I remember reading in interview with him years ago where he said it had earned him a fair old wedge of cash (and how many bass lines can you say that about?). He got a full writer's credit on the Patrice Rushen original and it's since been sampled by Will Smith for Men in Black, George Michael, Randy Crawford etc. giving him a true "multi-platinum" status as he gets writer's credits on all of their versions as well I think!
wow, I really liked that video. Makes me wanna be able to play slap even more. Me thinks ill ask my tutour tomorrow, my technique is terrible at the mo. oh, YYZ - Rush, started learning it. OMG, I only ever pluck with 2 fingers, most 3 if im playing something stupidly fast like pulp fiction tune. I had to play with 4 and me no likey.
15. oops, i came to this post by mistake, thought it was an off topic post about women.
16. ahhh... Ferdinand does exist then, do you know much about Ferdinands? Im using the body for my p bass project thats all. <<------ that one (although not original colour)
17. oooooo... cant wait to see what it looks and sounds like.
18. morning campers. Going to visit my ex GF in Atlanta next month, gonna go pick up a bongo or something while im out there as they are cheep as chips in the states. Now... Do I take the neck off and pack it in my case? - but what happens if I get a Musicman case thrown in for free? be a shame to turn down a £120 case. Do I take it on the plane with me, just say its an extra bag? - but if I didnt take it out with me then they know I got it over there and they will tax my ass. Do I Take a crappy case with me on the plane, then swap the crappy case for the bongo w/case and pretend its the same bass?
19. why not have "the worst bass video" comp,? everyone just tries (or in my case, not try) to play a song bad. weather it be Style, sloppyness, dress sence, singing along, Im sure we can all come up with something ingenius and laughable. everyone can easly get involved in that, Only takes a cam of some kind and a little thought, Can be any style, any song, any age, any ability. Yeah no???
20. Since I really started to get into bass ive always been impressed by 2 videos from youtube.. flight of a bumblebee on a 7 String YYZ on a 6 string the YYZ cover is my fav by far. I very much doubt even if I spent the rest of my life doing nothing but learning that song id never master it. I picked up the tabs for it once, laughed and put my bass down. I know most of you will say just learn your own stuff, I dont want to get into an argument about that. But what songs out there have you looked at and thought... Never in a million years..
21. Its a beautiful bass, its going to play nice cause.. well its a 'ray. I think your being a little harsh with the last comment. There isnt a market for 'rays at the moment I agree, but this looks to be a fine example of a bass.
22. Im hoping OLP's are ok, I should be getting a 5 String one on monday. Dont know how it will compare to my Ernie Ball 'ray but we'll soon find out
23. Only thing I think this thread missed is the options you can have on the rays'/stirlings/bongos, I dont know anything about Stirlings apart from the neck shape, body shape, crome thing missing around knobs, but with the Ray and Bongo , they both come in H, HH, HS. Swaping my Fretless Jazz for an OLP ray 5HH, if I can get on with the double hum, gonna find me a Bongo 5HH, Propper GAS for a Bongo but ill have to save up cause im never getting rid of my 3eq 'ray. Although I really would love a ray with matching headstock in that glitter paint with the diffrent bridge, bahh forgot what they call them. someone mentioned that option in the thead somewhere
24. it has a breaker etc, its all wired up properly, it used to have 4-5 desks and pc's in the gym when it was an office. im guessing its that socket as its on the inside of an outside wall which isnt protected well from the elements, plus the extention cable is questionable at best. never really thought about the health and safety side of it.
