1. Plywood seams a little daunting (to me) didnt realise you could make the bodies out of it. does it sound ok??? Im sure with some TLC you can get pretty close to that Rick sound your after.
2. So passive needs the strings earthed, active not earthed. Gotcha, Im guessing its something to do with the Extention lead, it isnt great and im plugging it into my gym which is a seperate building away from the house. It used to be used as an office so the electrics were done properly, but I guess over time if they arnt being used......
3.
Certainly nothing to do with the bass being active. Check that the earth wire from the amp is securely fixed to the mains plug. Then check the extension. It's worth buying a cheap multimeter for this sort of thing, you can probably pick one up from Maplin for a fiver. If the earth between amp and plug is OK, get the house wiring checked.
awesome, as long as its nothing to do with my bass im happy. Ill get the other stuff checked though just to be safe
4.
I found Rotosound flats to be pretty shoddy too - I may have just got a set from a bad batch, but they sounded crap and felt really horrible to play. Put me off Rotosound for life!
+1
5. sat in my back yard in the sun playing on the weekend, I noticed when I didnt touch the strings with my left hand and my right arm connected with the strings Id get an electric shock, ok its not all that bad, just felt like when you put your tounge on a 9v battery (come on, everyones tried it) havent had chance to see if it does this thru my ashdown yet, and I was using an extention lead into a crappy 10wat amp. But my bass is active so I was wondering if it had anything to do with that or something to do with the little amp and extention lead?
6.
Have a look on the basschat wiki
I had a look but couldnt find what I was looking for. Its an ebony board but its one of those man made ones that are supposedly harder, supposedly. Mighty Mite fretless P neck I have for it. Id prefer flats cause I love the feel of them, apart from Rotoflats. My Jazz initially came with some awesome flats, mint green ends with a gold ball, other side didnt have a colour. If I knew what they were id get some of those for my P.
7.
I've not looked through all 19 pages so I don't know if these have been on but I think they're quite comical...
someone made a white version of that pink one, sold on ebay for a few hundred. there is a thread about it somewhere on basschat
8. Ive tried a fair few Rotos in my time and I dont like any of them, I have Elixers on my fretted and I LOVE them to bits, I wouldnt have anything but elixers now on a fretted bass.. BUT I need some strings for a fretless, Although I love elixers im pretty sure they dont do flats, and im pretty sure the rounds would cut into my new fretboard pretty fast, I really dont like the sound Rotos gave my Fretless J, Pretty much tried all the roto flats, think the last set were the "swing" or "jazz" I found it was very dull and really not what I wanted out of it, althou these new strings are going on my Fretless P. Could someone recomend some strings that are going to be really bright, but also not wreck my fingers or fretboard.
9. Nuff Said enjoy
10. [s]someones selling a fretless jazz for £200 in the forums.[/s] my bad its a fretted.
11.
I've found these to cope quite badly with gigs or long periods of use in my experience. The volume hasn't coped, and the sound has compromised as a result. Lots of other people have had much better experiences with them though, so maybe it was just the ones I've used. I'd imagine an extension cab would help it out a lot.
I bought the 15" for a replacement of my tiny 15wat thing, I love it, I cant complain about it at all, what Chris just said though might run true, turning it up very loud it can destort over 3/4's depending on the other settings, but with an extended cab its outstanding!! But even on its own its a very nice punchy combo. Ashdown are suppopsedly like marmite, but I have to say that im definatly loveing this combo, go for the 15" too, I tested the 12 and 15, 15 is definatly the better option
12. ooooo me likey!! I love matt finnishes, not sure on the black tuners though, maybe you should swap me for my chromes and see how you get on :brow: nahh its lovely bob, what strings did you end up putting on? Chris
13. If I remember rightly there is a ashdown 180 combo going in the clasifies section of this site. forgot how much it was or where it is
14. awesome, recieved today, well packaged, spot on, nice chromey stuff for my P. cheers fella!
15. get the serial number off the headstock, go on the fender site and it tells you what year it is, for eg, mine is MZ3 which is 2003/4. if hes being genuine and its a 7 year old bass it should start MZ0+ 5 digits 2000-2001 MZ1+ 5 digits 2001-2002
16. Wish my project bass was remotely playable cause I would have brought that. was gonna bring it anyways but TBH there isnt much point to stare at some paint on a slab of wood. Leaving the Jazz at home too cause im trading it for a OLP MM32 5er next week. im guessing the jazz is worth a bit more but i dont really have a place for it now and I wanna check out a 5er + double hum.
17. Depends where in Leeds. Im really not a big fan of leeds, I hate the city center, its a one way nightmare! even with sat nav! Ive got mates around the hydepark area, I know where the skatepark is and thats about it, if there is pently of people up for it I dont mind driving up its only about 45mins-1hour
18.
has anyone thats going got that Yamaha BB with the humbucking pickup at the front? i think its the BB 714? i wouldn't mind hearing how one of those sound and how they are to play.
Bring your telebass, I didnt get to have a play when I was at your house. Still dont know if I can make it yet, if im not drunk/hungover when I wake up ill be there.
19. Actually thats not as hard as I first imagined, thanks for all your help, I know exactly what I need now. TY!!!!!! ill tell you, if it wasnt for basschat id still have 2 pieces of wood in the shape of an old bass.
20. £12, cheep as chips!! Cheers Jono!!!!!!!!!!!
21.
Don't worry it's not difficult, just the terminology is confusing. Soldering it all up is actually pretty simple too. You need 2 x pots. If you are ordering them then the Fender standard is '250k audio log'. Try to get ones manufactured by CTS. 1 x jack socket. Made by Switchcraft. 1 x 0.05uf capacitor. This is used for the tone circuit. Some wire - black and white usually! Bit of solder and a soldering iron. Most of your variation in tone will come from the types of pickups you are using, as well as string type and amp, rather than these parts.
im not bad with a soldering iron, you should have seen the soundsystem in my first ROVER mini, probably on par with my rig now lol. I just have no clue what parts to use but you really helped, thanks!!
22.
http://www.seymourduncan.com/pdfs/support/...s/std_pbass.pdf Make sure you get logarithmic or audio taper pots, linear pots are "all or nothing" to human ears.
Ooooo that helps a lot! Thanks!
23. *runs of crying because ive got NO clue what anyone just said* its ok, if I go to this Nottingham meet up on sunday ill get someone to sit me in a corner with a dunce hat on while they run me through my A-B-C's
