1. been to the paint shop, turns out flip paint is £100 a ltr so that idea got scrapped, but the paint shop guy sold me on another idea. Ended up with black basecoat and a deep purple marble paint, so the end result should look something like this... if anyones used this paint before, let me know how you applyed it, ive been told to put a light coat then have 60secs to dab it with a plastic bag or anything not cilicone based to create the effect. gonna try out a few things to see what I can make of it. could lay down card cut out of somthing and lay it ontop before spraying to leave a black void saying something or a pattern. please throw ideas at me as im quite limited at the moment. cheers
2. Im sorry for posting this, but ive looked all over, read the sticky for strings and im still no closer to finding strings i like. I love Flats on fretless, Ive tried rotosound flats, rotosound Jazz bass Flats, and im still not happy. the strings sound far far too dull. Im after a string with lots of sustain, flats as not to rip my fingers to pieces and the fretboard, and bright. surely its not too much to ask?? Chrisdabass sold me his 'ray with Elixrs and they are fantastic, if they were just flats instead of round id buy 2 lots for my jazz and my project p. any help would be great, i dont mind spending a lot on strings as long as they sound great. thanks in advance
3. well, got the body prepped, had a few little tiny chips in the paint so ive sandd it down with (well whatever that buffer thing is called my dad uses on cars) then gone over it with 1500 wet and dry paper to make it as smooth as, after I dried it off ive noticed a few patches ive missed and is still shiny, so I need to go over it again, im trying not to get it back to the wood because I dont want to have to treat it. planning on undercoat when my neck turns up (doing the head at the same time) and then sprayed the next day. Im off to look at some colours tomorrow but I recon its gonna be the purple/brown unless I find something new in the paint shop . definatly like the purple though but wouldnt mind if it flipped into some random other colour like green or orange. Just waiting on the neck now really, should be 10 working days delivery. so max 3 weeks as I work away. hopefully the weather picks up cause its not great spraying when its cold. takes a lot more care and attention. Took some better pics of it today and ill try and get them uploaded asap.
4.
you could try a piezo bridge, especially if you're going fretless. I've just put one of these from ebay on mine, and it sounds ace with a buffer. You'd need to go active to buffer it though otherwise it would sound very tinny.
I dont plan on making it active. The routing out the battery box ect is a bit over my head. Trying to keep the wood work down to a min. I do like the look of that bridge though.
5. I was playing with the idea of making it fretless by filling in the holes from the removed frets, but after a long hard thing about it, I realised by the time I sand down the neck and try and make that more playable, then mess about making it fretless its still going to look bodged, Plus I love the fretless guitars with no lines on it, so I just ordered the Mighty Mite Fender P neck from the US as shown below. ill try and take some decent pics this weekend, before its sanded, after and hopefully should get undercoat done, possibly sprayed depending on how long my wrist holds out (sprained it pretty bad skateboarding a few weeks ago, which sucks cause I cant play bass without being in lots of pain)
6. ooooops. oh yeah this is Basschat haha. My bad! im new to BASSCHAT!!!! so many damn forums, I cant keep up.
7. I only read half the thread, sorry, but... Like someone said, in the mix if you mess up slightly you can move your hand slightly to get the right note and noone seams to notice. I found it hard to pick up as I wasnt all that great with my fingering before my fretless. but it taught me so much in such a little time, I can play now and tell when ive missed the note, really helped train my ear. I love the tone as well, there really isnt anything like it. My Fretless Jazz hangs up on the wall most of the time now but I do love picking it up just to do a few slides cause its the best sound in the world. Fun to play, takes some time to get used to and sounds great if you want something a little diffrent.
8. EDITED: 1/5/08 Hey, Ive got a Ferdinand P Bass bass, didnt know what to do with it, so I decided to throw lots of time and money at it. that what it looks like at the moment. gonna have Chrome Badass ii Bridge its now black/purple marble. got some MIM pups which I may change again later. going for a black scratchplate I think after all the messing around.. anyone have one?? Im not sure what tone I really want from it, My Jazz and 'Ray will be my main bass's this will just be for messing about with, might under wind the pups to get a retro tone. really not sure yet. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!!!!!
9. Morning, im prety new to TalkBass, First stumbled across it when I was told it was a good place to find 2nd hand bass's in the UK. which it is, Thanks to CHRISDABASS for selling me his Trans Red MM Stingray, its awesome and I cant put the thing down. Also got a MIM Fretless Jazz, with custom scratch plate and soon to have a Badass ii Bridge and im still looking for some round wound strings for it, cant find any I like, got Roto Jazz Round's on the moment, so if you know of any better faster strings, let me know. Also have a Ferdinand P Bass loooking thing, which is totaly stripped at the moment, going for a custom respray in Flip Peralesent Purple into Blue, or possibly the Blue flips into Green. Not sure yet, Thats gonna have Badass ii Bridge too, Elixr strings (they are amazing on CHRISDABASS's 'ray) Gonna have a custom made Stainless/crome scratch plate which I might engrave with something, got my music shop looking into the perfect pickups for me too. Might add some cheesy light under the scratch plate too. Depends how bored I get and if I like it the way it is. Oh and if i still dont like it its going fretless, I need to sand the neck down anyways to get rid of the god aweful sticky varnish thats on it at the moment. I run these with a Ashdown EB 15-180 Combo, its loud enough for what I want it for and its fully manageable to get the tones I want. I also have a Zoom B2.1u FX pedal for when I want something a little diffrent. Im not in a band, dont really have time for it with working away all week, Favorite bassist is flea and Duff Mckegan, Starting to learn slap but im terrible at it and could probably do with some lessons. Influences; RHCP GnR Doors (yeah I know they didnt have a full time bassist but Morrison is a legend) Beatles Stone Roses oh yeah, been playing about 2 1/2 years. anyways, I prob wrote far too much. Chris

12.
At £90 for 2 including UK postage, you are indeed being ripped off BIG TIME!!! I am talking about bridge SADDLES though, not complete bridges. I got mine from here: http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/bass_saddles.htm $13.99 each plus P&P which equates to just under £12.50 inclusive. A bargain I think. Good luck. Regards Neil
cheers, good job I looked on the forums for these first lol. Ill have to have a look about, The bass im fixing should be sprayed this weekend if I have time, so ill be wanting to get a bridge soon to slap on it. saying that, its gonna take me a while to fix everything else on it. It'll gimme some time to have a look about and find them cheap. Cheers Buddy
