I spent the whole gig fending off "the loony on the bus" who insisted on singing into mics, touching guitars and bass during songs, turning machine heads, stepping on fx pedals and even blowing into harmonicas! That last one immediately struck Roadhouse Blues from the set. Guy was a total nightmare.

That was probably due to the humph up three flights of stairs. Pech pech

Our last gig at The Ferry in Glasgow took place two weeks before lockdown in Feb 2020. Fast forward almost two years exactly and we were back with a new rhythm player and a few new supporters. I played in the support band too who also introduced their new singer to the masses. Happy days indeed.

Thanks everyone. All very valid points. We discussed it amongst the band and no-one is desperate to go to a venue that small. Think we need to quote a sizeable fee that covers normal fee plus accommodation and reasonable food. That will probably count us out and the promoter can always offer us other gigs closer to home.

I've been asked to quote a fee for a gig that's 150 miles away (3 hours) Our normal radius is up to 50 miles. What do other BCs factor in for gigs much further distant than normal? This gig is for a 5 piece in a small 80 capacity venue. Thanks.

Search online for compression gloves and buy a couple of pairs. Might feel odd initially but you'll soon get used to them and no-one will even notice so don't be shy.

I ordered a Markbass amp from them about three weeks ago and it took just six days to arrive. I can't fault the service.

Served me well for many years and gigs before giving it to my brother to use on his home recording. The dust suggests he doesn't record much these days.

I fancy buying a Markbass CMD 102P combo and have researched it online and on YouTube. I contacted my local GG shop asking to come in to try and buy but they want a 20% non refundable deposit to source one and bring it to their shop. Is this normal and reasonable from them? Is there any chance I won't like it when I try it out? Currently I play a Fender P through a Trace Elliot V type 15" and will need it to suit full on FOH PA venues and smaller venues with vocal PA only. Thanks

All of the previous advice from the BC collective is spot on. All I can add is to have your fretting hand ready at the starting position for the next song in the set. Not as daft as it sounds

Familiarise yourself with classic Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys to learn the basic style and you'll fit in.

Tell them that any songs that don't fit the remit can only be included if you arrange them in an Eighties style. Don't take no for an answer.

Take the singer with you when looking to buy to make sure she's comfortable helping to carry it in and out of venues. 😶
