I'd be inclined to buy a camera case for it, or even just wrap it in cling film!
+1 for the tascam, I practice with mine all the time. MP3 player and headphone amp in one!
  2. TC Polytune is probably the best tuner I've owned, Korg PitchBlack is as good but I prefer the display on the TC. Sold my TU-2 to our guitarist who loves it - I didn't get on with it, always seemed to struggle on the B string.

  4.
Ah OK.
By the way, I love your basses - I'm trying to convince myself I need one!
  5.
Thanks. You couldn't hear either of these?
not really, the balance was wrong for me. too much piano and not enough bass!
  6.
Which bass was he playing?
the Dingwall and an upright
  7. I went to see them when they played in cheltenham last december - great band. The bass wasn't really audible from where I sat, about 20 metres behind the mixing desk!
  8.
When it comes to running workshops and clinics, it always helps to be able to travel as light as possible. It has got me thinking about what gear I take with me for sessions and that sometimes I require some kind of full range amplification too. I realise the obvious answer to my question would be to just get a pair of (or one) active / powered PA cabinet, end of. That could well be what I do as the inputs would allow me to plug in my laptop to play music through as well as bass guitar. Doesn't stop me pondering over which bass cabinets would be good for audio though eh? Especially if I want to use the same gear to crank up loudly so that I can be heard over a drummer. I've already had a chit-chat with 'The Funk' about his Acme bass cabinets as I think they would be pretty ace and I hear that people have used them as PA cabs on TalkBass. What else is out there? Accugroove 1x10 / 1x12? What about EA? Barefaced?
Bergantino 2x10 with a genz benz shuttle - depends what you mean by hi-fi, but play an iPod through the rig and it sounds really good. By definition an iPod means it isn't hi-fi though! Also sounds good with guitar and vocals. Oh and bass! Cheers Martin
  9.
Are there any restrictions when it comes to digital wireless sets? I was thinking of buying a Brace Audio DWG1000 but I'll not bother if it's a PITA to sort out a license for it and everything. Thanks John, this has been really interesting to read. Truckstop
Did you buy the Brace unit? Just wondered how you are getting on with it (if you did!) Cheers Martin
  10.
Martin You are an honorary member of staff, you know that ;-) My Lakland is still undecided......... Mark
oh dear, doesn't sound like the pay is very good ;-)
  11.
...............you know that is not a bad idea................I will looking for someone soon..............
I thought I'd already auditioned for that job a few weeks ago - helping sell berg cabs to the guy who wanted another brand! I'm still waiting for the other guy to come and hear my Roscoe played live - he hasn't made it to a gig yet! Did you sell his Lakland? Hi Mark, Merry Xmas and hope to have the pickups soon Cheers Martin W
  12.
I genuinely don't know why anyone would want a Fender over this.....it's beautiful!! D.
+100
  13. I bought an LG3005 just over a week ago - shame I didn't see this one! Fantastic bass. Have another bump! Cheers Martin
  14.
As we all know in our various professions and trades we can push the average advised rules much further when we really know our stuff about something, when most people just take the standard bumf on anything and think its gospel, as that is wise if you dont know the real limits I just do what it says on the tin, ie only 2 x 8 or 1 x 4, but the truth be known there is most likely a massive buffer of safety and you could do more with most amps/cab, surely no business is going to make something electronic and the advise its users to run it close to its limits and then wait to deal with all the returns, there is safety margins built into most things so when someone does cross the mark its the consumers fault TC are clever if this is the case as they are giving us the go ahead to use some of this buffer, but only with their gear Surely if the ratings are correct, then you could use 3 TC cabs with a mark bass head, or 3 mark bass 8ohm cabs with the rebel head, but who is gonna risk it?
I accidentally plugged two 4 ohm cabs into my mark bass F1 which is 4 ohm load minimum. It shut down after a few seconds of playing. However I removed one cab, powered off and on and all was well again!
  15.
Hi All, Even though I am not musically technically minded I have always considered myself to be a fairly competent bass player. However, the songs that the band I have just joined cover songs which require me to sing backing vocals. The lead singer is female and the remainder of the band are tone deaf males so that just leaves me to do it. It is about twenty years since I last played bass and sang BV's fairly successfully. I would like to know:- 1) Because my voice is fairly weak -it's like comparing a single note to a chord- is there an effects 'pedal' available to add character to my voice, say like a chorus effect. Adjusting the EQ on the mixing desk does not help. 2) When looking at copying the harmonies sung by females who support a female lead vocal (quite high)-where does a guy start? As I said, I'm not technically minded so I hope this post is understandable!! As usual, any help appreciated.
have a look at tc electronics - they do various vocal effects units including pitch correction, doubling (which thickens the sound) and also adding harmonies based on either guitar or midi input!
  16.
I know this is the case with some drummers, but it doesn't have to be, it is just down to poor or limited technique on their part. I know some drummers who can groove or swing like nobody's business, while playing in a restaurant at conversation level. Unfortunately they are rare beasts, who are always busy. Funny that :-) Jennifer
+1 for that. always wear ear protectors. I wear earplugs for rehearsal and in-ear monitoring for gigs. sorted!

very, very sad news. rest in peace
  18.
Yes, if the preamp varies the buzzing level a bit, and it happens even with no bass attached, then you can be almost entirely sure there is something wrong with the preamp. The good news is it sounds actually like it would be a simple repair, most likely a dry joint somewhere although it could be a failed component. Either way, an easy fix for any competent tech. Yes, I would definitely contact Ashdown, give them a ring if you can, their customer support is well known for being very good so hopefully they will be able to help you.
is it a detachable mains lead? it could be a bad earth connection so if it's detachable try a different lead, or if not open the mains plug and check all the leads are connected and screwed up tight.
  19.
I love mine - the Classic 4 bass on the left.
I love that Gretsch, and the classic 4 looks great too. Is there a UK dealer?
  20. Here's my perception, sadly I'm in the picture too. Lovely bass, great to play and great sound Martin
  21. Thanks for your response Guys, I'll have a look at garage band.
  22. Hi There, About a year ago I switched from a windows PC to an Intel iMac. I want some software for recording and simple sequencing for the mac I can just about get my head around Sonar on the PC, so somthing similar (or simpler) to use would be good, but not too expensive. Any recomendations? Cheers Martin
  23. I've been running an F1 for nearly 2 years now, and it's had some pretty loud gigs to cope with. I did try to fry it by connecting 2 x 4 ohm cabs when i first got it, all it did was shut down. Remove 1 cab and turn back on and it's been as good as gold ever since. I work for an electronics company (we design and manufacture fruit machines). We have a great reuptation for reliability, but I believe we get a 3% return for repair. Hope that helps.
  24.
No mate, it makes them look like idiots. Post a "bassist available" immediately so that it appears adjacent in the listings. Here's a template to get you started: S.P.
excellent!
