We use these,absolutely amazing,bit pricy though. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb04/arti...cylindrical.htm
I've looked at those in the past - how loud are they? From memory they're rated at 250 watts per column. Cheers Martin

Hi John, did you buy some RCF's? We have two pairs of 310A's and I'm really happy with them. They sound better than the mackie srm450's I had, and much lighter (which was the main reason for changing). I did have one driver go after about 3 weeks use, but repair was quick under warranty. Great cabs in my opinion. Oh - they seem to go for nearly new money on eBay so I'd buy new. Cheers Martin
What tuner do you use? and why? I'm looking for something to replace my no-name eBay five quid lump of cr@p and would like some opinions if anyone has any prefernces, dislikes, warnings, etc, cheers Dronny
Hi Dronny I used the boss TU-2 up until I just bought a Korg pitch black - best tuner I've ever used, much more stable display than the tu2. It's a pedal which mutes the bass when tuning, it's chromatic, and the led display is easily read. Basically does everything the tu2 does but better for similar money. Not sure the boss does chromatic. cheers Martin

Hmmmmm, alternate power amp, (thanks reccession ¬¬)
martinbass7750 replied to AttitudeCastle's topic in Amps and Cabs
Have a look at Bass Direct - Mark is selling a s/h peavey amp for £100. Use something like that until you can afford a Crown or QSC amp. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._demo_amps.html Scroll down the page a bit. Cheers Martin -
Suggestions for small cabs for ebs td650
martinbass7750 replied to wayneyboy's topic in Amps and Cabs
must admit very tempted by the ebs 112's- so small and compact but loud for such a small cab- how much do these go for new? think be hard to get second-hand
My EBS neo 2x12 is for sale at bass direct - I replaced it with a pair of Bergantino neo 1x12's http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._H_EBS_212.html -
I think the PA idea is pretty good, but you are looking at producing some really pricey kit there, so even though it is a high bang for the buck, less people will have that money to hand. Hope you've been supplying advice to voxchat.co.uk (if there is such a thing!) Slightly different note, why is it vocalists dont think they need to provide a good quality vocal PA??? That one really baffles me! I dont ask the vocalist to provide my amp after all!
Interesting question that - and very common. I provide the PA for the vocalists in both bands I play in, and one of them never helps set up or take down either. Touch of thread hijack!

Try a Clover Apeiron 5 - I've change to the 4 string from a MIM Jazz and love it. Mark has one in stock at bassdirect http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...peiron_H.5.html It has passive jazz pickups, and you can switch it into active MM mode. Cheers Martin

I currently play in two bands, but I'm finding it too much, so I have decided to concentrate on my Blues band. So, Jacksboro Highway Band has a vacancy for a bass player. They're a great bunch of guys, and the Band gets a reasonable number of gigs. If you want to find out more about the band please visit www.jacksborohighway.co.uk - you can see our set list and gig history. There's a few sample songs on there too. Any one interested please PM me. Cheers Martin

You need to try for yourself, but up until recently I was using an ebs 2x10 stacked on an ebs 2x12 - loads of welly from a 500w head. Now I've gone for 2 single 12 cabs basically to reduce gear size and weight. From my experience, 2x12 cabs give quite a bit more bottom end than 2x10. Never had any problme hearing myself if resoanbly loud bands Cheers Martin
Recently bought some PA gear from Martin - nice easy transaction and the gear was in top condition, he even threw in some cables that hadn't been advertised as part of the deal. Thanks Martin, Tim
Hi Tim, Thanks for buying the cabs - nice easy transaction with you too! I'm sure you'll be pleased with the cabs. I'll drop the stands off at your Dad's place this week.
I searched for 'Speaker +recommendation' and only got half a page of results that weren't what I was looking for and then searched 'speaker' and got 26 pages so I'm going to ask The speaker in my Ashdown ABM Mini 15 stopped working rather abruptly last night. Low input, output set to about 1 o'clock, not had much use - certainly less than 100 hours anyway. It's well past its warranty now, so I will need to buy a replacement 15" speaker. Can anybody recommend a brand or type for somebody on a budget?
Hi John, Try talking to Lean Business - they stock Celestion at pretty good prices - or Blue Aran who stock Eminence and Fane. The've both been helpful when I've called them in the past.
Be bad, sit back, mute lots and play it cool. And then tell them you'll let them know if they're good enough. Alex
+1 for that. been in a similar situation myself, it can get quite distressing! -
I honestly can't say - I've stuck something on gumtree : have had my arm bitten off in the past and other times been stuck with said item for months. Let me know if you move them on before I come back (or if you list them at a lower start price )
ok - I'll hold off ebay, just keep in touch with me!
Ooh - I'm very interested in these - and only up the road from you too. I have to sort the sale of a couple of things I have been putting off selling first so I'll get on to that Tim
Hi Tim, You're welcome to come and listen to them when you're ready. They're in totally new condition. Give me an idea of timescales, and I'll hold off putting them on eBay; they seem to go for around £600 on eBay without cases etc. Cheers Martin

Up for sale here is a pair of Mackie SRM450 (version 1) active PA cabs complete with Mackie carry bags. Theses are great PA cabs, fantastic sound with high output before feedback. I bought them new in Jan 2009. Each cabs delivers 400 watts rms. Mackie product information: http://www.mackie.com/products/srm450/ SRM450 brief specifications Low-Cut Frequency 75Hz, Second-order filter Thermal Protection Amplifier shutdown, auto reset Frequency Range (-10 dB) 45Hz - 20KHz Frequency Response (±3 dB) 55Hz - 18kHz Maximum Peak SPL @ 1m 127 dB L.Driver Protection Independent LF and HF compressors Transducer Low-Frequency Transducer: Diameter 300mm (12") Power Handling 450 watts RMS Hi-Frequency Driver and Horn: Diaphragm Diameter 44mm (1.75") Power Handling 100 watts RMS Power Amplifier and System Low-Frequency Power Amplifier: Rated Power 300 watts RMS High-frequency amplifier: Rated Power 100 watts @ High-Frequency Driver Impedance Physical Properties Height 660mm (26") Width 390mm (15.4") Depth 376mm (14.8") Weight 23.2kg (51 lbs.) A Review: http://www.mackie.com/pdf/press/SRM450_SOSLive_Aug04.pdf I've been gradually reducing the size and weight of my gear, as I don't get much help loading the car! I'll happily carry both cabs on my shoulders at the start of a gig, but by the end of the evening my back complains about the weight of my bass! The carry bags are great - they have a zip up pouch for XLR and mains leads, plus shoulder straps to help with carrying. These cabs have been replaced with Version 2, which is slightly lighter but more expensive. One dealer I spoke to reckoned the V1 cabs had a smoother sound than the V2. V1 cabs can still be bought for around £750 for the pair, plus the bags are £68 each - a total of £886. I'm looking for £600 for the lot, and I'll throw some XLR leads in with that. Collection would be best, but I can arrange shipping for £20 total. I still have the original packing, so shipping isn't a problem I'll post some photos soon, Cheers Martin
I don't think you'll be disappointed
I used the ART310A's at rehearsal last night - certainly a match soundwise for the SRM450's. Probably not as good for kick drum etc, but great for vocals. I'm not convinced they go quite as loud, although on paper they should do as the max spl is the same. The cases aren't quite as handy as the Mackie ones. They stay on the cabs which is nice, but the Mackie ones have a side pouch which I keep the mains lead and XLR leads in - the RCF bags don't have that. I'll hang on to the SRM450's for a while until I've gigged a few time with the ART310's, but initial impressions are good. Out of interest, there's some opinion out there on the www that prefers the V1 SRM450's to the V2 SRM450's - apparently V2's are stronger in the mid range which can give more feedback issues, so more careful EQ is required. I've never had any problems with the V1's, they are great speakers IMHO. Thanks for the advice, Cheers Martin
