1.
Definitely intrigued. What's the string spacing (supposed to be) at the bridge? What pickup configuration is the body routed for?
The body routing is std musicman 5 string pup, it had a delano pickup in it. The neck is the standard musicman 5 string status neck, i've just had a look on status website and cant see what it is. I had a schaller 3d bridge which had adjustable string spacing - so i dont really know what it is - sorry - Ta Dave
2.
Is this neck drilled for this Particular body?
Yes the neck was attached to this one, i've got the neck plate and screws somewhere also Ta Dave
3. I had one, It's the best cab I ever owned - wish I still had it (even though I dont need one) Stunning definition with plenty of bass... It's a bargain
4. Status neck MM5 (4+1) with tuners, drilled for 4 screw fixing - but holes could be filled for different screw arrangements. Couple of little marks on headstock and one small chip. No fret wear, no marks on fretboard or back of neck. £150 OLP MM5 body with bridge and scratchplate only (no pups/knobs etc), scratchplate has an additional hole in it. £40 Away from home for a couple of days so will update with pix later in week if there is any interest. Located in Worcester but could post if necessary. Not really after any trades but always open to offers (but no basses or pedals - I've got enough) really looking for EMG 5 string P pickup, or possibly 5 string J pickups with preamps etc.
5. Hi Guys Just thought you might like details of some cheap quality timbers for building. Trev 01636 821828 near Newark-on-trent Trev is a great guy who used to make very high end snooker tables and other bits and bobs, now retiring and selling off his VAST timber stock - there is a lot there. Nothing too exotic but he's got a lot of high quality mahogany, maple (nothing too flamey), lacewood, walnut (neck sizes only) ash etc etc all suitable for necks and bodies. All old stock so very seasoned quality wood. Well worth checking out as prices are good. He's got a full large workshop so I guess he could cut and plane bits up if needed. His collection is huge so it's well worth a trip to have a rummage around, but he also does delivery at a very good rate. I work up that way from time-to-time and always pop in for a chat and end up with a load in the van. Ta Dave
6. Sorry - posted in wrong section
7. beautiful bass - I love the finish. I think the P pup IS the right way round - I never really understood why the Fender one is the wrong way round (I'm sure I'll get abuse for that) Surley you want the trebble side thicker/bassier sounding and the bass side more defined and less muddy. Love the large pole pieces . Great pair of stunning basses, I do love Sandburgs.
8. I had an Aguilar OBP2 Preamp from Oli - great guy, very easy to deal with. VERY highly recommended. Thanks Dave
9. Top guy - highly recommended. I has a set of Nordstrand pups from Bill, very easy deal.... Ta Dave
10.
A shameless plug for my LAG Collection 5 String currently strung EADGC. Very well made in France in the mid 1980's not one of the far eastern ones. Narrow string spacing about 16mm, neck is very comfortable (for me anyway) only about 3mm wider than my Spector Rebop at the nut.
+1 for the shameless plug... I used to own this (I guess as there cant be many around) It has a very narrow neck and souds amazing!! stunning in real life, photos dont do it justice. I only sold it as it was too narrow for my fat fingers. It's the only bass I sold that I really miss.
11. Hi - we play a lot (covers pub band) butthis is the first 1/2 decent video anyone has ever done of us so I thought I'd stick up a link. It's not here for critical comments of my very average bass playing just for amusement. Although do feel free to throw as much abuse as you want...i wont be too offended....
12. Havent had much sapare time lately due to getting ready to move house but it's now just about done, just a little fettling here and there. The rosewood has come up so well, love it. Rosewood Top Crotch Walnut Back One Piece Neck I didnt want a scratchplate or control cover on back as the back is so pretty so access to control cavity is via the bottom
13.
Sorry. That should have been are you sure a spalted board is a good idea for a neck. Spalt wood is not really known for being structural sound.
Totally agee - but this spalted is very hard, no noticable difference between this and the heartwood which is why I used it. Tapping the timber sounds identical and it's just as hard to chisel and shape. It's not heavily spalted so the rots not too far set in. I've set aside the more heavily spalted pieces from the tree for tops
14.
Hi Are you a spalted board is a good idea for a neck.
Thanks - it looks good and a bit different which is always good..... I kinda fancy exploring the fretboard timbers a bit, it's finding wierd pieces hard enough not to zap tone and sustain. I've got some Jarrah burr that might make a stunning fretboard but would take some 'creative' filling as it's a bit knarly. I've been on the look out for something with a long straight crotch grain - let me know if you see anything like that (that you dont want) I've got this but the flame is too wide and not straight enough to look good on a fretboard
15. That burr is stunning (so's the walnut) I love burrs - everytime you look at it you see something new and that piece is great!! Looking forward to seeing finished closeups of that wood.
16. Made a start on the next one, only roughly shaped, will be a bit more rounded. Body is crotch walnut with a little bit of flame, very crazy grain flow to this Top is two-tone Rio Rosewood Set neck is from same stock as the top, nice spalting. Fretboard is just the top cut off the neck so matches perfectly.
17. Thanks to the extra day's holiday I got it pretty much completed Any custom build undertaken for sensible money Hope you like it.....
18.
I bet that sounds fantastic
It does - very clear and precise. Delano stuff is so so good, having a true passive tone control adds alot of versatility to the sound, perfect match to the status neck.
19.
awesome looking thing!
PRICE DROP....£500 No offers on that price
20. Update - Thankfully I'm not working weekends anymore so got a bit more done on the telecaster bass. Nearly ready for spraying. Scratchplate isnt finished hence the wobbely lines
21.
BumP
Another Bump
22.
Used condition. The inside's lovely - clean, fresh (no weird smells!) The outside's got a few scuffs/marks/tears, but nothing too bad. It'll look better than it does in the pics for the buyer, as I'll stick the tolex down where it's damaged and give it a clean. Got to be a bargain for £20 collected from LE67
Hey - I'll have it. I'll PM you in a bit Ta Dave
23. Meetup with Nick to collect some caps today- Great guy, Thanks for popping out of work to meet up Dave
24. I fitted these (paper/oil 47s) this afternoon in my thinline passive jazz and they REALLY make a difference. 1st tried it through a practice amp where I couldnt hear a change by fired up my SWR and the difference is very noticable - rolling off the tone the sound is certainly more warm by more defined useable warmth, if that makes any sense - I find it hard to explain tones. Cheapest way to make your bass sound sweeter Thanks Nick
25.
love the tele shape, keep us updated
Thanks all - I've been so busy with work.... not enough time to get much done lately.... Necks all done, It does look good now, it was still very rough when pix were taken. Bit of sanding here and there then spray. Should be done just after easter hols.
