WOW - that^ is lovely. Great colour matching of the woods makes it look very classy. Never heard of blackmachine before but just been to their website and very impressed, but yours is the nicest one they have done!

I couldn’t decide if this should go in the Innovation sub folder but that seems more about the trial sets so I thought I’d pop it in here so more might see it. 1[sup]st[/sup] off I’m a bit of a DB novice but play loads and already playing in a rock n roll / rockabilly band and a jazzy acoustic 3 piece. I don’t have much experience with DB strings but wanted to share my thoughts… When I got my bass (carved top ply body) it came with Helicore strings can the sound to me was nothing like I was after, far too bright and not enough soul so I read all I could and listened to what I could find and plumped for a set of Innovation rockabilly. When I fitted them the tone was pretty much exactly what I had in my head, lovely tone, great warm presence and not bright like the helicores. BUT the G was noticeably stiffer than D&A and the E was sounding pretty dead especially around the A note and tension was slacker than D&A, I know different DB’s do react differently to strings so I know this is just down to my bass and not the quality of the strings. I emailed Daf at innovation and I just gotta say he was amazing! He sent out (at no charge, but to be returned at some point) a slap G and a replacement E to try. The slap G suited my bass much better and the tension was perfect match for the D&A but the E was just the same, so it wasn’t a duff string. I emailed Daf again thanking him for the G but still having problems with E, Daf suggested that the problem was probably the soundpost causing ghost notes on the E but he sent me out an ultra black E to try, again at no charge, to try and match tension. This setup now has totally perfect balanced tension and the tone is crazy good, What 100% amazing customer service from Daf Being a bit of a DB novice I was concerned about the problems being me rather than the strings, but with thanks to Daf’s help I’m so happy and playing even more! The nicest and most helpful person I’ve met for a long time. Nugget

I guess this is gonna be the most stupid question in the history of BC, I’m cringing even typing it!! So I’ve got a estate which is backed to the brim with PA gear (wife sings) and hardly any room for the bass gear. Now she want to also do a rock n roll band with a DB and will not even think about EUB, so how the heck do I get that in the car as well?? Is there any good WATERPROOF hardcases/ flightcases that could be attached to a roof rack, that don’t cost as much as a cheap old van???? I don’t wanna buy a van as the car is company car with free fuel etc and can’t afford to get another vehicle and pay insurance tax etc etc etc unless I have too. Did think about shoving the PA in a trailer but that's a pain in the arse to park as some venues are in city centres with crap parking

I'm no expert on cabs so this might be a load of crap...... I had a genz cab blow the bulb, contacted Genz to se why there was a light bulb in the cab and hey said they do blow if you get a spike in high freq eg unplugging cable from bass with amp on Whip it out and go down Halfords in the car bulb section

I'm no expert on it, did 2 basses last year both turned out great.. but here's my take on it I did probably 5 coats a day for 2 days sanding back at start of 2nd day so about 10 coats - I only did that many as once its cured you cant add more and I was a bit paranoid about rubbing through so I put a bit more on than needed, certainly didnt look thick with 10 coats on when rubbed flat B&Q do Harris 'paint and varnish' (I think) brushes for about £5, these are fine as the RPC flows out almost perfectly after 10-15 mins so you cant see any brush marks bit like tekaloid paint if you've ever used that. Just make sure you dont get any runs or drips as it is very thin so many thin coats and dont get tempted to put thick coats on. Like I say I'm no expert on this stuff so I might be wrrong......

I saved the text below from a forum somewhere on the net. Some guy contacted Rustins help line after having a few problems with reaction between coats and this is the reply he got from them, turns out the instructions on the bottles are not quite correct!! Leave longer between coats. When I used it I did coats every 3 hrs with no rubbing down between coats, left it over night rubbed down very lightly and continued more coats every 3 hrs the following day. That was plenty enough for a good build-up and no risk of rubbing through Bottom line is leave it between 3-4 hours and 1 day between coats and you'll be fine. TOP TIP - Use a good quality bush if you're brushing it on, even homebase and b&q stock lacquer brushes 1. ONLY use the directions for the mixing formula (4 parts coating to 1 part activator, and health and safety advice) 2. Leave each coat as long as possiable bbefore rubbing down and applying the next coat, he recommended 3 ~ 4 hours, the reason for this is that the surface will harden very quickly however the underneath will remain soluable for approx 2 hour and can be reactivated by another coat but the surface will not. Thus leading to wrinkling, or a pitted finish. 3. Inital rubbing down should be done using 600 grit wet and dry followed by 0000 wire wool to apply a key for the next coat, only start to progress to a finer grit when you are ready to apply the final coat. 4. Try to avoid using it on a product that has been assembled using PVA or water based glue, as the coating can sometimes react against the pva glue and cause you problems later on. He said the best glue to use is Polymite (formally known as Cascimite) or any resin based gue. 5. He also stated that the critic phase is NOT reasched untill at least two days after the final coat and that he had used the product over the space of a week on the same projects a number of times and NEVER reached the critic phase. When I told him that this is NOT what the instructions for use say he said< quote [i]"I don't know who wrote them but they are incorrect"[/i]

I think I got a 1ltr kit (it was a while ago) and it's plenty to do 2 - 3 bodies so pretty cheap The only problem with it is that you MUST follow the instructions on time between coats else it's ruined and once done and dried you cant recoat it (as far as I know) as once it cures new coats will react and ripple badly. So you've gotta make sure you've got enough on not to rub through, it's easy you just put plenty of coats on over a couple of days, wait a week then its all done...

I must just say that the cats whisker pickups are so good, they sound incredable!! my new favourite pickups

That looks really nice, it'll come alive with a lacquer on it As Rubis said rusting plastic coating is really very good!! easy to do and polishes up like glass easily, quick drying (only 1 week before buffing). Dont be put of by the "Plastic" in the name it doesnt look or feel at all plasticy

How about something with P90's in? would be different enough from the tele to justify the both without going to humbuckers. P90s are smoooooooth
