Didn't see it the first time but I'm firmly in the "wow" camp. In fact, I may just give up bass altogether because given my attainment to date I don't think I'll live long enough to ever play like that.
+1 im pleased when I can root note my way through some of my 80s hair metal songs

Chord tones and arpeggios are an excellent and musical way to play over chords check out carolkaye.com she has some excellent literature and information, it is relatively cheap and arrives quickly from overseas, she has some good stuff and its not just for jazz it can be applied to rock too she has a rock funk bass cd and guide and her basic bass dvd is supposed to be awesome too. heres an excerpt from one of her forum posts. Progressions are just that, chord changes usually something to do with the cycle (see above). It's best to not get too technical ("this has got to fit into that") and more important to hone in on the real soloing - I teach a different way in the sense I get you going immediately knowing all this stuff and using it in walking on chord charts (even if you haven't had years of theory, you can learn this rather practical and find it easy to get started right) and I don't fool around with so many technical terms that don't mean that much in actual playing. Many kinds of funky-rock-blues-soul etc. patterns are all in my books and of course the Jazz Improv For Bass and Pro's Jazz Phrases (as well as Elec. Bass Lines No. 6) have fine jazz patterns also. The word "shapes" is sort of a new term - not used that much in actual teaching I think....meaning the chordal note shapes....more for guitar. Not that necessary for bass...and is taking the place of the former "box" term imo -- chordal notes used to be called that.

The Bass Book: A Complete Illustrated History of Bass Guitars

I saw it the other day but had no money, made a mental note to get it next time, had forgotten actually til i read this, will write myself a note and pick it up -
carol kaye advocates saying the names of the root of arpeggios while you practise, her tutorials seem to be focused on training the ear at the same time as learning arpeggios and lines, I think she is a great educator

Ahhh sounds like a nightmare thats a lot of money, you would expect it to be rock solid for that , ok on surface mount components, you would think they would do a (do they call it a soak or sink test.??) Where they leave them on for a few hours at factory to trap these kind of faults, suppose its easier and more cheaper to send them out and wait for folk to send them back, but like you say it destroys trust and builds a negative view of the product, I usually have seen ashdowns in for repair in a local shop, and when the guy phoned an amp tech guru colleague he said, one of your faves another ashdown haha

I bought a perfect 10 mini stack off someone on here earlier in the year and it has never worked properly, it constantly drops out and fizzes intermittently, it took two or three trips to the local guitar shop to get them to hear it in action as the thing would usually behave untill I wanted to practise a song or jam with a friend. I was going to throw about another 80 to 100 to get it repaired but i dont think i will be able to trust it and I actually have grown to hate it now as the money it has cost me to buy, then trips back and forth to the shop in a taxi I could have bought something decent. I am considering selling it as is for £20 or giving it away as it makes me so depressed, fkin thing, I did mention it to the seller but strangely he never replied. funnily enough I do have a tourbus 10 which i bought brand new which works admirably not much use for playing with other people though. not a great idea to buy amps second hand unless you can travel or have a car to go and try them out, when I was checking out cheapish new amps to buy i was looking at a hartke a100 then read loads of posts about them not working and having to be sent back so its new amps too

worst amp you have owned or had the luck to use
hollywoodrox replied to stu_g's topic in Amps and Cabs
ive bought a ashdown perfect 10 mini stack off someone on here and the bloody thing crackles and drops out all the time sometimes it sounds fuzzy and strangled, really fed up, paid for a taxi to take it to local shop to be tested but when they played it it flipping behaved itself so taxi back and next day its back to its tricks, it seems if i leave it a day or two without playing it does it, bloody fed up as cant really afford to get it fixed now and have wasted money on taxis, so ven if I find somone to jam with now I wont be able to as bloody amp is sh*t, and ive only been using it at a level that you could quietly talk over so as not to avoid the neighbours so god knows what it would do if i cranked it up a bit to jam. fed up with it all -
all great musicians, stewarts a great drummer

This looks strange, charvel bass?
hollywoodrox replied to hollywoodrox's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
it sort of looks short though, prob an optical illusion -
is it the way the pictures taken or is it short scale, it doesn't look right, must be the angle of the photo, I like charvel and it does look kinda cool http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/jackson-charvel-bass-guitar-/321107811613?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:3160
