I was browsing Classic and Cool after seeing another NBD thread on here, and stumbled across this http://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/portfolio/usa-fender-jazz-1975-re-issue-bass-in-natural/ Arrived this afternoon after a very swift deal. Brilliant service from Mark at Classic & Cool, and it's a true player - growls like a tiger!

I'm moving on my Fender Marcus Miller Japan 4 string in Natural Finish. I have been the custodian of this fine bass for about 3 years in which time it hasn't seen any action outside the house. I am guessing it's one of the earlier ones (serial available on request if you'd like to try and check). The pu cover is missing (the piece of chrome, not the plastic on the pu), but everything else is functioning as it should. I've priced this to sell a lot lower than others currently available. Would prefer collection from Northampton NN3 (test drives welcome) - but can ship at buyers cost & there is a brand new Hiscox case available for an extra £25 if you want to take this option. Excuse the poor quality pics - drop me a pm if you want any others.

I think 50% discount is about right as a rule of thumb on used gear - unless its vintage or rocking horse poo. I definitely think the inflated prices we've seen in the past 5 years or so are definitely behind us. I've used this formula for many years and has always served me well when it comes to buying and selling. A couple of pieces I've paid slightly more on (but I know I wont sell them on). Karl - my jazz was £580 which I thought was very fair

Buying a used bass.... the Truss rod; do you check it?
sammybee replied to Grangur's topic in Bass Guitars
I bought a bass off the classifieds here and the truss rod was well and truly shagged. I think the seller knew about it but never said anything (he was moving the bass on a few weeks after buying it). That and the fact it was strung with dental floss - I should have seen it coming. Once bitten twice shy. I will always check in the future. -
Inherit the Wind was the soundtrack for my summer when I was 12. A great loss. Didn't realise he was a bass player too.

How many basses have you bought off the Basschat marketplace?
sammybee replied to Highfox's topic in Bass Guitars
Way cheaper to sell here. You'll pay 10% final value fee on eBay. That's £30 on one £300 bass. Here you pay £20 for a year and sell as much as you like. I've been buying and selling on here for five years and haven't encountered a single dreamer/tyre-kicker or timewaster... whereas I've had problems with dolts and morons on eBay. Are you confusing BassChat with another forum..?
No definitely much better on Ebay. Here is great for buying (shhhh dont let the folks who buy on Ebay hear that). But Ebay is king for selling even with the 10% fees. I've been buying and selling gear for longer than I care to remember (mostly synths & electronics not so much basses) and always walk away with a profit/break even on the 'bay. -

I've bought 3 or 4. I like simple transactions - agree price with minimum hassle-pay money quickly-deliver/pick up asap. Buying on here like that is no problem, apart from one bass I bought here which was a lemon. Selling is another matter - much much better via Ebay. Too many dreamers/tyre kickers/timewasters here. I wouldn't recommend selling here. -

Aftermarket Jazz necks- any advice welcomed
sammybee replied to oh...it's_a_squier's topic in Bass Guitars
Looking to build myself a p/j bass but really gassing for a block and bound jazz neck on a rosewood board, anyone have any joy with any aftermarket necks of this type?
I bought one of these from Custom World Guitar parts - about £115. Not bad but the frets definitely need some work - action isnt that low and the thing buzzes like crazy. -
I did this experiment on my ray a couple of months ago. Switched back to rounds pretty sharpish.

Dupuytrens Contracture .......anyone had/got it
sammybee replied to lowlandtrees's topic in General Discussion
If you want surgery for this, you might want to consider going private. Most CCG's consider this a procedure of 'limited clinical effectiveness' and require strict criteria to be applied before they will pay for it (ie. they will only pay as a last resort in practice). Google 'Procedures of limited clinical effectiveness (+ your local area) - its not just this, lots of surgery you think you might get done routinely is rationed these days.
