1. Hi

If he wants top whack for his bass its down to him to show you a few things..firstly, check under the pickups, on most pickups but not all ,should be a code, the last 2 digits should be the year the pickups were made, secondly the pots will have a code ,as an example 1377414, the 137 indicates the factory the pots were made followed by the year 74 and week 14,

while these are a good guide ,be aware that most 70,s jazz basses can overlap a few years so you can have 74 pickups, 75 pots and a 76 body, depending on what bucket fender pulled them from

In 1999 I bought a Musicman Stingray 5 for £805 whilst on holiday in Nashville I took it back to the motel and put the neck in one suitcase and the body in the other.

Might try that....going to Vegas soon....might come back with a vintage jazz...... suppose theres nothing stopping you stripping the bass right down

I had mine in the late 70's after owning a copy Precision and a copy Rick' and before I owned a Fender Precision. At no time at all, did the weight issue ever arise. Its only since I joined this forum that I have heard of people complaining about the weight. Perhaps it's the usual story.... when anything is so near perfect, people will always try and find something to be picky about?
When I gigged mine, at a frantic pace in a Punk band, I was 18/19 years old. I had broad shoulders by then and had grown a pair. :-)

Ive owned a lot of basses over the years , fender jazzes, fender precisions, 2 Wal's, Rickenbacker, Musicman and without doubt the heaviest bass was the Peavey,........not being picky about anything.... just saying that the bass, for my taste was too heavy.

4. I had a T 40 in the early eighties ,It was like hanging a small tank round my shoulders.........very very heavy, Im sure it was oak bodied due to the weight but it must have been Ash........cool looking.........but should come with a subscription to your local bodybuilding gym

Welcome Ian. I was a drummer for (10) years then a keyboard/guitar player but finally worked up the cajones to play a real instrument.
Drummers can be useful; you know the stage is level when the drummer drools from both sides.

:D ...........lol......... :D

Hi mate, thanks for the welcome... Where would drummers be without Bass players to keep them in time.... :)

Hey Ian,

Welcome indeed. You may teach us some.
Funny you should mention exactly these bassists as influences. All four of them have been heavily influenced by me as well! I have four restraining orders as evidence!
(Though I'm sorry I took one out on poor Martin. He's really a good bloke.)

Me, I love drummers. They're great fun to be with 24/7, and the best non-musos a band can have working for them. IMHO of course. ;)

Enjoy the site!

best,

Hi there Alembic 63. One of the nicest facings I've seen, very pretty. Anyhow if think you'll need to put a trade value on this post as well if you look at the rules of the forum!! Good luck with the trade B)
Thanks for the advice mate ,

It's gonna take a nice vintage jazz Bass for me to part with this bass , so Trade value of this bass is £1500

Cheers Ian

12. Hi Guy's

Looking to trade my beautiful Maccassar ebony custom Jazz bass with Status Graphite neck and hiscox hardcase.

I had the bass body built around 10 years ago by Brian Eastwood ( http://www.brianeastwoodguitars.co.uk/) originally with a rosewood jazz neck.

It's a 5 piece body , Bubinga core, bookmatched Maccasser stripped Ebony front and back with EMG's ,Baddass bridge ,gold hardware.
The Status neck and Gotoh machine heads are brand new and were fitted within the last few months by Brian Eastwood .

There are a few marks on the back of the body as you would expect from a 10 year old bass but they are merely cosmetic.

This Bass is heavy but the trade off is a killer tone.

A Custom made Bass to this spec made by Brian Eastwood today would knock you back at least £1500 without the Status neck

Looking to trade for a vintage 70's Fender Jazz . Trade value £1500

Sorry Guys, wont let me upload photos for some reason, I'll post photos as soon as I can .

cheers Ian

Hello and welcome Ian.

Impressive reading there, I love Geddy and Stanley and always wanted a Wal.....too picey!

Post your bass for sale in the 'basses for sale' at the bottom part of the forum, I've sold 2 over the last couple of months and the folks here are a good bunch.
Regale us of tales from old Ian.

Cheers Leen.
Hi Leen

Thanks for the welcome mate.....sold my first wal for £300....and swapped my custom Wal for a 70's Jazz bass.... wouldnt like to think what they would be worth today......., Ive played with the same drummer for 25years and in all that time he's had the the same Tama kit....he thinks I'm mad for constantly changing my Basses , he say " they all sound the same to him" .........that's drummers for ya ...tone deaf.....lol
