Fave and least fave electric guitar noises?
steantval replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Mark Knopfler tone on the Les Paul is superb, he’s usually more associated with his clean Strat sound. I have been having a go at learning the bass line on Californication today, the hardest bit is during the guitar solo, agree with a few others regarding Frusciante, his lead playing and tone are pretty appalling, it sounds like someone just learning to play guitar, especially with inaccurate note bends. -

I just love listening to people who can sing.

Gifted vocalist, Joss Stone. -
Best of, too many different genres to pick just one. Heres a couple I would suggest - Paul Kossoff Stevie Ray Vaughan

Very nice, personally don’t like the Metalflake finish ones, far to OTT for me, but the others, yes please.

Also ensure the singer takes a cash/credit with them, remember the rest of the band have probably invested quite heavily in their own gear already. 🤔

Just a quickie regarding rehearsing, our band (4 piece) usually rehearse at our singers studio at his home, under current restrictions we cannot legally start rehearsing until May 17th (can’t come quick enough) until groups of up to 6 people can meet indoors, we are not pro musicians, just weekend players. I assume our bass chatter stewblack is a pro player (lucky boy) to be able to get together with other musicians in a commercial rehearsal studio. Below are the current rules for commercial rehearsal premises. April 12th – Solo bookings, small groups from the same household, and working/professional musicians May 17th – Bands of up to six people June 21st – Open, no restrictions

Sky Arts now on, Planes, Trains and Eric. Documentary on Eric Clapton Far East tour in 2014. Great look behind the scenes plus live concert footage, Nathan East on bass and the brilliant Steve Gadd on drums. -
Californication by RHCP for fun and no slap required. The toughest bit is over the guitar solo, stretching fingers to their limit.

These work a treat.

Just found this small no frills concert, raw power trio. Joey B knocking it out the park, superb bass played by Eric Czar and drumming by Kenny Kramme. -
Sometimes rock needs to be just fast and very loud

There are special clubs people visit wearing that kind of stuff😀

Surely any venue that is worth its salt and expect bands to do outdoor gigs, should provide weatherproof facilities to accommodate these type of gigs. They do around our way.

Currently enjoying watching Bowie Glass Spider, superb musicians and I was surprised to see Peter Frampton doing lead guitar duties, fantastic player. -

Really enjoyed the Paul Rodgers interview, came across as a really decent and unpretentious person. -
Why do bands “split” rather than “stop”?
steantval replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
A huge amount of bands have just stopped and not doing anything, including mine. F*cking virus.😤 -

Waiting for the Brian Johnson interview with Paul Rodgers, just checked and it’s on next Friday (12th) night, already set to record in case I forget. -
Although not an original band, these ladies can really rock. 👍

Are Sterling SUB Ray4 basses heavy basses?
steantval replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
Just checked the weight of my Sub by feel against my original MM and the Sub feels just a bit lighter. I purchased the Sub as a back up and was expecting a similar sound to my MM, I surprised that it wasn’t, I use a fair bit of compression on the MM to give me a nice snappy sound, with exactly the same set up with the Sub it sounds horrible, it gives a distorted muffled sound, I had to reset all the EQ on my amp and zero compression to get somewhere near my preferred sound. I would assume the Sub has cheaper electronics/pick up which is giving it a harsher gravely sound.
