  1. Not for me it ain’t. Every band I have been in including every member of them were not in it for the money, enjoyment in playing was the main factor. Hate is a very strong word as stated in the thread title, if you hate gigging, simply don’t do it.
  2. Agree with your bit about the vocalist, sort of. With our current band the vocalist chooses the majority of our songs, he knows if he can sing them in the original keys. If any of the rest of us in the band want to do a song, we send it to him first, he will initially try it out, if he is certain he can perform it in the original key, it gets his approval and the rest of the band can start learning it. We have yet to choose a song that is out of his range, if he cannot do it in the original key he has no interest in doing it anyway.
  3. Bang on there, our vocalist had professional lessons, rock stuff is pretty easy for him, he can also do opera, often does a bit of it when warming up.
  4. Its like Brian Adams, Run To You, the guitar intro needs to be done in the original key otherwise it won’t work. There are some songs you just cannot transpose into different keys.
  5. What would you suggest, I purchased a five string just for one song or played it an octave higher and it would sound crap.🤔 Most of the verses are around the first and third frets, drop it down a tone and a half and it goes off the end of the neck 😤 That band was the only band I have ever played in where a load of the songs had to be played in a different key, I must have been very lucky with previous and my current band where the vocalists are of a high quality and every song is played in the original recorded key barring a couple of Lizzy songs that are usually moved by a semitone.
  6. Our drummer puts his phone on random play rock tracks through the PA.
  7. Doh, a step and a half down.👍
  8. Jaz Lochrie always played it very well when he was in Bad Co and Paul Rodgers backing band, found a vid, song starts at 50 minutes in.
  9. Been playing this song for many years, just dropped it from our current set, it always goes down well. A previous band I was in wanted to do it, but a step and a half down to suit the singer, I put my foot down and refused to do it in that key with a four string bass.
  10. For our Classic Rock set I generally play 90% fingers and (10% pick for the faster songs). Learning a new song last night that required a fast picking action and was seriously struggling as it’s not really my style of playing, Out In The Fields by Gary Moore. I going to have to put in a lot of practice to get the speed and technique bang on.
  11. You would have no work around our way at those rates, the pubs would not pay it, £250 is probably the average and there are some very good bands up this way who can probably push for £300.
  12. Just book all your gigs at venues next to rivers, that should sort the vocalist transport issues.
  13. Personally I wouldn’t think 400w is enough, obviously depends on what type of music your band plays (you didn’t mention this). 8 inch speakers are small, I would be surprised if they would ever take a kick drum being put through them, ideally you need a good bass sub for kick drum.
  14. It’s either Bring out your rubbish Gee up Hercules You dirty ole man
  15. I generally find that placing a wine gum under each corner does the trick.
  16. Readily available from the Australian cricket team 😀
  17. The moral of the story is to arrive at the gig first and set your gear up, no issues then.
  18. The old days with TE and now with MB
