  1. Our Free tribute band were offered Lindos Rock in Rhodes, Greece a few years back. Our guitarist was a teacher and unfortunately it was during term time and he could not get the time off.
  2. Tower of Power, classy musicianship, great grooves. Shame, totally the opposite, dreadful. Snow Patrol, zzzzzzzzzz
  3. Played in a Free tribute band for a few years, absolutely loved it. We ended up with Jeff Rich ex Status Quo on the drums. Used my by big Markbass rig and even bought an EB3 bass, bloody awful thing to play, headstock dive, but looked and sounded the part, I would have preferred to use my MM Stingray, but not authentic enough. We were fairly unusual that we were a 5 piece which included a keyboard player, about 80% of the Free recorded tracks actually contain keyboards, that gave us a live sound that was so close to the original. Would still be doing it now, but the vocalist decided to leave to form his own band with original material, the most difficult person in the band to replace, couldn’t find anyone else good enough and the band eventually folded.
  4. Seven songs, should be a doddle, enjoy it.
  5. Just the last 5 minutes to see what garbage has won.
  6. 2018 Eurovision winning song - utter garbage.
  7. Keen gardener, do you grow them from seeds😀
  8. Our vocalist has his own rehearsal studio, zero miles for him, about a 32 mile round trip for the rest of us.
  9. Entirely agree. If they are covers, I would play them exactly note for note as the original recordings with a bass sound as near to them as well. Do that and they cannot fault your playing, it could work both ways, they will be seriously impressed or you may make them look inferior players. By doing the above, if you do not get the job, it will be down to a personality thing.
  10. Why make life difficult, they have requested you choose 5 songs from their set list. I assume it must be a covers band, if so they should provide you with the keys, it helps if they are in the original keys, in the terms of the arrangement they should tell you exactly which version, single, album track or live. You should do the 5 you already know and hopefully they match the keys and arrangements of the ones they do, if not, it will be pretty easy to move stuff about and remember before the audition. This will be your only chance to make a great impression and get the job, you will only most probably only have time to perform 5 songs, if you believe you can play these 5 songs to a high standard, you stand a great chance.
  11. Most probably every one which will be featured on the appalling Eurovision Song Crapfest this weekend.
  12. I see on the survey the greatest percentage is for fellow bass players who say they can remember 200 plus songs they would be able to play from start to finish with no errors, I do find this hard to encompass. You could list 200 plus songs on a sheet of paper and someone could choose any at random and you could play them correctly from start to finish without any errors?
  13. Just out of interest, is the rehearsal room above the pub owned by the pub? If so and you are I presume, currently paying for rehearsal time, as the landlady said she couldn’t pay you for this gig, it would have been an ideal time to negotiate some future rehearsal time for free as payment for the gig.
  14. Have to disagree a bit here, yes you can play over some of SVR’s stuff with some basic 12 bar bass playing, but some songs will sound very empty with basic bass playing. We used to do Tightrope, I learnt it note for note to get the feel and make it sound right, any other old bass line over it would totally lose that wonderful groove. So as part of the answer to the OP’s question, there is no way I could play that particular song straight off , frustrates me, but my brain just cannot retain all these great songs I have done in the past.
  15. Should have gone to Specsavers 😀
  16. Suggest Spirit of Radio by Rush, that should keep him busy or possibly show his failings.😀
  17. Probably played well over 200 different songs in the various cover bands I have been in since the 80’s. To be totally honest I could play 25 off at the drop of a hat without any errors (our current set). Most of some great songs I have played in the past have been forgotten (shame), a sign of getting old.
  18. C2 Split window Corvette, one of my all time favourite cars from the USA.
  19. Excellent documentary. Mr Beck has played with quality musicians and including some wonderful female bass players, great to hear Rod Stewart at his best from the early Jeff Beck Group and Ronnie Wood doing a great job on the bass. It also featured his wonderful collection of hot rods, he also owns one of my all time favourite American cars, a split screen Corvette.
  20. Yuk, give me the Elvin Bishop original anytime.
  21. There is a similar one every year in early May in West Palm Beach, Florida called Sunfest. There have been some amazing line ups in the past and the entrance prices are not extortionate like UK festivals. www.sunfest.com
  22. Four for me - Maze Wishbone Ash Boz Scaggs Walter Trout
  23. Let’s not forget the kn*bheads who spend the best part of a live concert looking at it through their mobile phones 📱
