Johnnie Walker announced it on his show this afternoon, sad news. With his show actually being broadcast live, he altered his schedule to include a tribute to Walter Becker towards the end of his show, nice touch.
I use public transport to travel all over the UK to gigs, and even to Paris earlier in the year. I use a trolley for my gear which carries my combo, pedalboard, cables, MacBook etc. My bass is in a Mono gig bag on my back. Here it is at Birmingham station.
I suppose it depends what type of music you play and what type of bands, that combo in the bag must be very small and certainly would not be suitable for the type of gigs I play. I would assume it's put through the desk at gigs. I took my small practice amp along to one of our rehearsals once, big mistake, lack of volume meant you struggled to hear it above the drummer. There is no way I would be able to manage two Markbass 15 inch cabs, cables/effects holdall and solid guitar case on public transport, alternatively I could purchase a donkey.🙂

Now I have a bit more time on my hands I'm going through my large music collection and listening to stuff I hadn't heard for ages. Pulled out some Robin Trower stuff, I had forgotten how great this guys music is, wonderful stuff. Anyone else on here into Mr Trower ?
I'd largely agree with that - although Metallica's cover of the same song is, for me, the go-to version Other notable covers would be The Slits version of Heard it Through The Grapevine... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCr8V5wAroA ...and this surprisingly good version of an AC/DC classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4Ao-iNPPUc
Our band do a mix of the Lizzy and Metallica versions of Whiskey in the jar. Can't agree with the Grapevine cover, bloody awful.
How come all you guys play covers????
Never had the slightest bit of interest in an originals band, thank goodness we are all different.
My bands recently discussed doing a few London gigs next year. We're based in Leeds and fancied a Thursday night gig, Friday night, Saturday afternoon & night then a Sunday afternoon gig. Any recommendations on pubs that get a good crows? We do mostly rock and pop (Elvis Costello, Pulp, Motown, Jam, and the obvious cheesy stuff - nothing heavy tho. I know there'll be hundreds, but we'd ideally like the venues to be near each other for ease of cummute
The Tower of London would be worth doing, loads of Ravens but no Crows 🙂🙂🙂 (check your second paragraph)

Should I cancel gig I am going to for my bands gig?
I love your response, direct and to the point, you tell it like it is and that is a good quality to have
Been playing in various bands for the past 35 years, so my tolerance levels have been severely eroded away over time. -

Tell the drummer to take a hike, he should never have booked a gig on a date you had clearly previously told him you were unavailable, the guy must be a dickhead. -
Well, just to chime in with an update. On Thursday... I'm meeting 2 new singers and a drummer. We've set ten songs and we'll see what happens. I actually logged onto joinmyband.co.uk and it took a lot of guesswork out, quite a useful little website that.
My previous experience of using that site has been nothing but total frustration, loads of idiots advertise on it, time wasters and people with their heads in the clouds.
Looking at Norfolk Band Network on FB I was struck that there seem to be an awful lot of bands who ID themselves as 'cover bands' or 'influenced by...' So where's all the originality gone? Did the seminal 60s and 70s groups do covers?
music is like food , you either like it or you don't , and experts can debate the pros and cons of each , but does it mean tomatoes shouldn't exist just because I don't like them
Love tomatoes, especially the big ones in Greece with Feta cheese, heaven.

Played a new local music venue, place very full of punters. Really hot and humid inside but a great gig. The owner had her diary ready at the end and rebooked us again for October. Got absolutely soaked packing the gear away in the car, really lashing it down with rain.
My band plays all over, happy to travel assuming the budget is there, PM me for a contact if you're interested A bunch of live recorded (plus a few studio recorded) vids here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEEfKwixZBpOacl2xdsZJcA Si
Very impressive band, very tight with excellent vocals and some tasty bass playing. -
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I was not aware of this Daryl Hall series. Have been checking loads out on YouTube this evening, great guests and superb musicians.

Good result. I presume it had not been p*ssing with rain, otherwise they would have been in a bit of a state.
I believe it was actually Elliot Randall
Oops, I stand corrected, you are bang on with that one.

What was the first major festival you ever went to?
Speaking of festivals ,Summerfest opening day is tomorrow. World's Largest Music Fest. I have to research most of the artists on the side stages, I haven't any idea who 99% of them are. A daily pass onto the fest grounds on beautiful Lake Michigan is $17.00. I'm a senior citizen,so $7.00 for me. I knew being older would pay off sooner or later. 😂 There is some young guy, a blues guy from France I want to see.I think his name is Marcus King. I'd like to godown the night Joss Stone plays a side stage. And I hope to stay for Peter's set. https://summerfest.com/2017-lineup/ We play Sunday July 2nd 6:30. Maple Road 9:30. Peter Frampton Blue
The pricing for seeing live music events in the States is very good, not like over here where we are continually being ripped off with high ticket prices. -
Totally agree.
Agree here. First thing I said to the missus is that this would be so much better with a full band, I'm sure he has plenty of spare cash to pay for some top flight players.

Jesus, what a poor response. Surely there must be some players on here who have covered Emerald by Lizzy. I have done a fair few Lizzy covers, three in our current set but unfortunately I have never done Emerald otherwise I would help.
-
In answer to your question - no. Nile Rodgers just proved that point at Glastonbury.
-
Just watching it on BBC2. Awesome tight band , real quality musicians. Female vocalists - whow, I'm pretty sure they are the two original ones.
