1. I find tying several banana skins together does the job 🤡🤡🤡
2. Glastonbury is just like a big version of Jools Hollands show - A few decent acts but most of it is utter dross. The presenters follow up by saying every act was amazing or brilliant, it would be great to hear one of them say that was f*cking sh*te.
3.
I just gave them 10 minutes of my time on BBC2.....Thats plenty!
Same here, boring 😴😴😴
4. Love his voice, Poco were played on JW show yesterday.
5.
You took the words right out of my mouth!
A quote from Meatloaf. 😀😀😀
6.
I play in a pub covers band and can't make up my mind whether I prefer flat or roundwound strings on my P-bass. I've been swapping back and forth between gigs and am still non the wiser. I'm thinking that rounds are a better all rounder (excuse the pun) for the variety of material that we cover, but I love the feel and the warmth of the flats. Has anyone else suffered this dilemma and what did you do?
If you are non the wiser , does it really matter which to use. Go with your gut.
7. One of my favourite female vocalists Christine Mcvie was featured at the end of The One Show tonight singing Songbird. It was pretty dreadful, all wobbly and pitchy, has she now joined at lot of the older great vocalists who are now shadows of their former selves. Such a shame.
8.
I get your point if you are talking about miming perhaps, but adding sounds that you don't already have isn't cheating surely.
IMO you should only really play covers that suit the instrumental set up of the band i.e. If you are playing a load of covers in your set that prominently feature a horn section, get a horn section, I know keyboards can try and emulate this but they never sound right to me.
9. Totally understand using them if you are a solo artist or duo. If you are a full band i.e. guitar, bass, drums etc, IMO I call it cheating.
10. Just got back from seeing Limehouse Lizzy tonight. Two new band members, drummer and lead guitarist, both excellent. Ears ringing, should have taken my earplugs.
11.
100% agree with Meddle's description of The XX. Now, these sorts of drippy late-to-the-party post punk bands are ten a penny but they've come in for an inordinate amount of praise from the media and fans alike. Why? The band members are grey, uncharismatic and ornery looking. The songs are all pretty much downtempo but dark and the use the same formula of flat male, thin female vocals on every track. Critics describe the music as spare or minimalist. More like barely competant. The woman on guitar uses the Edge's approach of very simple single note riffs fed through reverb / flange. The frontman makes Adam Clayton's playing look like Vic Wootten's. OK I'm not saying he should play slap 16ths all over the shop but surely he could've come up with better lines
The way the guitarist and bass player were prancing about just makes me laugh, maybe they think it will deter people from noticing their very limited ability of playing their instruments.
12. I'll bet Corbyn is a big fan of it !!!!!!!!!
13. The Allmans are one of my all time favourite bands, actually saw them live at Knebworth in the 70's. Sad news about Gregg.
14. That didn't look like Wellers usual bass player with him tonight. What an appalling bunch of acts on tonight, some are just laughable, what the hell was that crazy woman wearing the big pink net curtain ?
15. Luckily I have been in the USA for the last couple of weeks and missed this pile of sh*te.
16. Forgot to watch it. The listings had Jameraqio (can't spell it) as being on. Nobody has mentioned it, were they not on?
17. Next weeks show will be worth a look, Robert Cray and Jamiroquai.
18. That's fairly modern stuff, I think the youngest song in our set is Dakota, pretty sure that was released in 2000 !! I agree with Dan Dare, I hardly recognise any songs in your set list.
19. Just flicking through the channels tonight and came across Later, a black woman on guitar and backed by a band made up of Mumford and ZZ Top lookalikes - bloody awful IMO.
20. Just started at 9pm, two Funk specials back to back.
21. Just inform your guitarist he was out of order assuming his girlfriend was also invited.
22.
wash your hands before you play wipe down the strings after you play
Usually go for a pee before I start playing and in between sets, so that covers the washing of hands before playing. At the end of the gig I usually wipe down the strings and bass with a small golf towel.
23. I regularly watched Rockpalast when I had my old satellite dish. Where I first spotted Joe Bonamassa, Gov't Mule and Beth Hart. I believe it's still going strong and what a great programme to see bands playing totally live.
24. Jaz Lochrie plays a lot of fretless, seen him on tour playing bass for Paul Rodgers.
25.
Glenn Hughes was on last night.
He was also on the Friday Night Rock Show this week, a good 20 minute very honest interview. There were also clips of the 1974 California Jam with Deep Purple introducing him and David Coverdale as the new members of the at the time the largest band in the world. He has got together again with Joe Bonnamassa and BCC are releasing a new album in September.
