Not easy. When you do find them, you then need to sift out the dickheads and time wasters.
Are you getting paid for this? If so you'll need a P1 visa to be legal. Good luck with getting one of those. I got one but only after about 3 months and several £££ - before you can even apply for one you need to demonstrate to USCIS that you are an 'artist of international renown' and have a petition lodged by a US 'sponsor' approved by them. If you do it on an ESTA and get paid then you're breaking immigration law.
Wonder why your called Twigman. You haven't twigged it yet. -
It's hard running a pub. Really hard. It may help matters if bands were more sympathetic with landlords I used to get the gigs for a very successful pub rock band. If we were doing a new venue, I knew the landlord would be worried about what crowd we would bring. So I gave them two prices and let them decide what to pay us. Our normal gig fee would have been £400 then, so I'd agree with the landlord, if it was a good night pay us the £400, if not, pay us £200 or somewhere between the two that left him with a profit I think if you try and see things from the landlords viewpoint, it will repay you in time with him giving you more gigs. In other words don't gig for £400 with less punters in the pub than staff and expect to get booked again
The going rate for four piece bands around our area is £200 and some of the pubs moan about that price. £400 for a pub gig in our area would be a no no.
As the title says. Just joined my first band in well over a year and it just occurred to me Im missing some essential stuff. 1) a gigworthy bass amp 2) a decent bass case 3) any idea of what im doing. Bass amp and case Im sure the good people here will be able to advise on. The bit about not having a clue maybe not. But hey, we play bass, no one hears us anyway right?
They certainly won't if you haven't got a bass amp !!!!!!!

I do find that this is thread is going in too deep regarding this issue. If your are a full time musician, then it is your occupation and therefore you would be legally obliged to declare it. If you have a full time day job and playing in bands at the weekends, that has nothing to do with your vehicle insurance, it's a bit like working in an office as your main occupation and doing track days every other weekend - you don't declare yourself as a Racing Driver.

Why declare it, this is meant for pro's who are considered a bad risk. Doing a few gigs a year is a hobby it's not an occupation.
When i was very young i loved hip hop. still do. its part of myself. i recognised that most of it didn't have the musical arrangements of the other soul music i was listening to. like comparing Stevie Wonder to Public Enemy. but i still had a thing for Hip Hop. and i don't know why although this is subjective, like anything creative, i was drawn to a certain type of HipHop. the funky kind. Usually it was west coast, with early NWA, but then with New York GangStarr, who to this day for me are the finest hiphop act to ever record this genre. but then i hear the X Clan. Mos Def, Jurassic 5, The Herbaliser just great smoker's hip hop..The Pharcyde The Roots are just epic. anyway, when the chips are down, and i want to listen to some proper stuff. this is the sh*t. imo. DO YOU LOVE HIP HOP.? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGpvI9vN9qU
NO.
I have to say, Christine and the Queens, the number they did with the dancing, was fascinating. Highlight of the show for me. Also, I agree, Imelda May was excellent.
I'm glad folks have different tastes, Christine and the Queens, bloody awful and the other French female vocalist doing Black Betty.

I found the whole show pretty poor. Watched the firework display on BBC 1 at midnight - far more entertaining.
Sadly, there was enough time for Red Red f***ing Whine.
The drumming was totally wrong, more military style than reggae.

I spend a lot of time in my job driving and I usually listen to Classic Rock all day. I was in an area where the DAB signal was cutting in and out and changed over to Radio 2. As I changed, a song had already started, it was really bluesy with a great groove and superb vocals, almost SRV in style. To my great surprise Scottish Ken annouced it was Shakin Stevens latest release, Down into Muddy Water. Anyone else heard it yet?
Didn't Neil Murray offer to help out with this for someone a while ago? I seem to recall a thread to which he contributed
Yes you are correct, Neil did actually help out on the thread. -
Which part of your setup bass, amp, cab etc do you prioritize
steantval replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
Whatever the equipment, it's only as good as the person playing through it. -

Butlins is quite a way outside of Skeggy and its in the Ingoldmells area. The main road out to is full of very large caravan parks, some of the largest in the UK, in the Summer months they use to be full of miners families on their annual two week break.
I heard one of the songs (your song?) on the radio and it sounded as though it had been transposed down incredibly low - don't know if it was to accommodate his more mature vocal range (happens to us all) or whether it was for the orchestra's benefit, either way it didn't quite sit right.
There was no orchestra with him, just his own incredible band he has had for years.

How far do you travel for a pub covers gig?
steantval replied to spike's topic in General Discussion
Id rather drive an hour to a gig thats gonna rock crowd wise, than 10 mins to an empty venue So the answer depends on the gig
How do you know whether the venue is full or empty until you get there and actually start playing ??????????????? -
