you should produce an album of all the winners, and runners up.
in time for christmas 2014 ,
Good Idea
but your band could enter this comp anyway ,
doesn't have to be solo comp's
i think if u have the facility to record, Do it , enter and have fun , its not a test for berklee !!

I've just listened and submitted my vote...well done to you all!
I've been thinking of giving the compositions a go but the level has been set so high
Go for it ,
the more people involved the better
it gets you to think outside the box on random subject matter,
its a great exercise

If one of my violins had been a banjo, I would have sued.

Hi Guys/Gals
I just found this Excellent youtube page of Jeff berlin lessons.
each lesson is about 5 mins long , But GREAT exercises, which you could easily spend months/years perfecting!
And i think he explains his lessons in a very simple and effective manner.
I hope this helps .

i agree,
we need to try and make this Thread more popular, and sociable.
after all, its just a bit of fun, and gets you thinking outside of your normal boxes
which i like .

Interesting that I was the only one that focussed on the Escher at the expense of Reynolds rather than the other way around. Probably says something about my headspace.
You weren't, i don't think
I used melodies and bass lines that ascended and descended , even the progression relates to the way the builders in the picture are moving around the walls which relates to Escher , and a country theme.
i knew this month's comp would be interesting......
and i learnt that not everyone grew up on burt reynolds films..??!!!
Great tracks this month, I Like lurksalot and Skol's tracks a lot,but i'll listen to them all again b4 i vote
nice one guys

My rationale this month was the climbing figures going up and down simultaneously; this formed the cello/viola figure that underpins the violins. The rest is just a pretty little tune. With reference to Burt Reynolds, I did what I always do when I see him associated with anything. I ignored him.

Did Burt reynolds hurt you in the past ?
sometimes, its better to go for a cheaper mic,
i had a mic that cost 500 quid, and it was so sensitive, that it picked up EVERYTHING in the room ( Normal untreated room) and sounded terrible.
so i had to use a cheapy 30 quid mic, and it worked a treat.
but you can't go wrong with a 58

This was recorded on fretted and fretless bass,
and a high octave pedal for the fiddle bits
OK,
So here's my attempt .
i recorded it on fretted and fretless bass . and used a high octave pedal for the slide bits .
Hope you enjoy.
I may still tweak it before the closing date, it was a bugga to mix. still not where i want it .
