Much as I enjoy playing this bass, I once again have my eye on something else. It is in excellent condition - the only obvious mark I can find is the little ding shown next to my finger in the last picture. It comes with the correct-size Fender gig bag. I have done the parallel wiring mod on the pickup, which has improved the clarity and the response of the tone control. The short scale and narrow neck make this bass very easy to play. Weight is a very manageable 3.96kg (8lb 11.5oz). I am looking for £450 collected or meet-up. Courier delivery is also possible - PM me for a price. No trades thanks, unless you have a 5E3-style guitar combo
Not taking any of the grief away from other posters but I've bought and sold 21 basses and 10 amps /cabs. Most of these have been couriered and I have had 100% satisfaction and no nightmares. The down side of the anti-courier lobby is people advertising desirable kit the other side of the country on a local pick up only basis. Am I going to spend £50 on petrol to pick up a £120 bass? No. So you see the adverts being bumped for literally months in some cases.
The flipside of this is that by the time you add the insurance to cover sending a £1,000+ instrument, I would often rather deliver the thing myself in person!

I'd go back a bit further and ask why do you want subs? If you are putting bass guitar, bass drum or keyboards through the PA, fine, but if not I would question their usefulness.

Just checked out the shop's website (no name, no pack drill) and the lacquer has a lot of cracking, not just one crack from clumsy handling. The description (presumably culled from Suhr's bumf) says: The nitrocellulose lacquer finish and our proprietary antiquing process make each Classic J Antique[sup]TM[/sup] feel like it has been loved for years. So yes it is deliberate. Up to you whether you want that or want to pay for it...

Although I rarely use a plectrum, these days, my choice is a Dunlop Delrin 1.14mm in attractive fuschia:

I probably average 5-6 days per week, usually working on something for an upcoming gig. As well as 2 regular bands I do a lot of deps and 1-offs, so there's always something to get up to speed with.
As for open strings I feel this is a bit of a hangover from the classical world. When I took violin lessons I was taught to shy away from open strings as they have a different timbre. I've also read that this attitude is way more prevalent in European (and ex-European) bassists than with those in the US. I suppose it depends on whether you treat the open strings as a crutch or not.
James Jamerson used open strings to provide descending chromatic approach notes while playing in 'flat' keys. Although it's good not to become dependent upon open strings, that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't use them when they're available.
They are indeed, but one of my Ps had to go, and won't be the US Standard! This one's just down the road (A420) from Swindon too
I had a CIJ '62 RI in Fiesta Red which I now regret letting go, but my recently acquired CIJ '57 RI in CAR is scratching that itch! -
I've had a 500 Fusion, an MB500 and an MB200 and regret selling all of them, especially the Fusion.
Did you not get the message after you'd sold the first two?!
Fantastic amps. But dare I say I'm a little disappointed, don't know why but they cost so much and while I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the design etc. I almost expect to see something magical in there. If you get my meaning. Although top side they really do look the business!!! So much want from me lol
I'm a bit surprised to see PCB-mounted valve sockets at the price those things go for!
