1. I briefly owned an Epi 335 which was fine until I gigged it. The construction methods of the 335 and 336 are completely different: 335 has laminate front and rear over a centre block, 336 is Carved from solid and capped.
  2.
my sentiments exactly plus this bit of genius ! https://youtu.be/dKHvRHp9h0U
Ah, the DFA switch!
  3. Congrats - these are fantastic guitars. I know this because I have one in black, with Bareknuckle Mississippi Queen pickups (mod by a previous owner). I have to say yours has more of the classic 335 look with that cherry finish. Excellent Dan cover - I have shared it on my FB page! What electronics mods are you contemplating? Here's mine:
  4. Godin have really cracked the bridge piezo thing. I have a Multiac nylon-string, and it sounds just lush!
  5. Definitely not too old! I didn't start on bass till I was 40.

  7. You may have an issue with the size of the Jazz pickups being different. Some are (were) different to allow for wider string spacing near the bridge, others are the same to save on tooling costs. Someone will be along in a minute with more accurate info on this...
  8.
Here's a short snippet from the gig:
Sounds good to me, although much of that has to do with the player (not wishing to be sycophantic of course).
  9. Bump. Plan B is to trade this in against something even more lush at World Guitars, so if you're more than a little interested, don't hang around - there are a couple of interesting candidates on their stock book...
  10. Just the thought of an amp head overhanging the sides of a cab... ugh, makes my palms go all sweaty
  11. Rumble 500:

Depth: 14" (35.56 cm)
Width: 19" (485 mm)
Height: 23" (58.42 cm)
Weight: 36.5 lbs. (16.56 kg)
Rumble 200:

Depth: 14" (35.56 cm)
Width: 19" (485 mm)
Height: 23" (58.42 cm)
Weight: 34.5 lbs. (15.65 kg)
Rumble 100:

Depth: 14" (35.56 cm)
Width: 16.5" (41.91 cm)
Height: 18.5" (46.99 cm)
Weight: 22 lbs. (9.97 kg)
So, no point in going for a Rumble 200 - same dimensions and only 1kg lighter; whereas the 100 is 2.5in narrower, 4.5in shorter, and only 60% of the weight of the 500. I think you mentioned somewhere there were no drums to compete with, so assuming the sound is there, sounds like a winner to me (especially at £240).
  12. Can send you my transcription if you want, but it's in standard notation.

    Tele rebuild

A bit posh-looking for my Tele tastes, but I am in awe of people who can do this kind of work.
  14.
I did spend the extra few pennies on a silver grille cloth for my Barefaced cab as I think the black metal grille looks butt ugly.
So did I Markbass stuff sounds good, but I couldn't live with the look of those heads. I once test-drove a used Merc - perfect match for what I wanted, FMBSH, drove like a dream - but the dashboard was 50/50 caramel and tan. I knew I couldn't live with that either! Shallow? Moi?
  15.
That's... expensive.

Yes but it is USA made don't forget...
...and pre-CBS of course.
  16. It's the ghost and part-muted notes that make that bass line for me.
  17.
Well I give a good reason not to buy it..... It's too expensive and I think it's worth maybe £500 quid.
Great minds think alike - I was watching this when it was a low-start auction, with a maximum in mind of £500! He's also had it up on BIN/BO at £1,699 - twice!
  18. Something I forgot to mention - the excellent string balance and consistency on this bass. Nothing lacking in the B string, even with flats.
  19.
Those are not crap songs. Those are songs you don't like. Blue
The man makes a valid point!
  20.
Tubes now successfully replaced. In case anyone wants to know what the bowels of a Walkabout Scout amp look like then feast your eyes thus:-
Neat build - well done Mesa Boogie!
  21. Bitsa basses are worth more to the owner as a working instrument made to their own spec, than to a buyer as a new (to them) bass. I agree with Lozz - if you must sell, you will get more parting it out. That also means you can keep any bits you may want to use on another project.
