1. Ah, the old Banez model!
2.
I was on a residential songwriting course last year & on the first evening somebody mentioned "Walking on Sunshine", which was the cue for me to go off into my usual rant about how much I hated that song. What I didn't realise at the time was that one of the women on the course was the wife of Kimberley Rew, the guy that wrote it....
Don't worry, Mrs Rew must get that a lot!
3. To me that's always been a second division disco number at best.
4. I occasionally find myself fancying a bass like this, until I remind myself it's not a Precision! I used to own and gig a Hohner Jack but playing it now (as it belongs to Mr Axe jnr) it sounds a bit thin. That's probably down to the J pickups - the OP's looks like it has humbuckers.
5. Got your eye on something else Andy?
6.
Inn before the lock!
Are you here all week?
7. It's full of stars!
8. One pickup (to rule them all). Give me a well-placed good-sounding pickup, and all I need to adjust during a gig are the tone control and my plucking hand.
9. This is a good illustration of where tab falls short. Standard notation gives you the pitches and durations, and you (the player) work out the best way to play them on your instrument. Bass tab just gives you the mechanical information for one possible way to play the music on a bass - in this case, a rather odd way. Please feel free not to join battle in another notation vs tab debate!
10. AC/DC, Sheffield Poly, 1978 Slipknot, Bristol Anson Rooms, on their first UK tour (2000/2001?)
11. I had one just like this - wish I still did, even though I have 2 very nice Precisions.
12. Played country the last 2 nights. What is it with dressing rooms? Saturday: Sunday: *sigh* Gigs went well though!
13. They were going for about £30 on Amazon not that long ago.
14.
Seven posts and nobody has yet referred to it as a Dingray, so allow me.
Which begs the question: Dingray or Precisionbacker?
15. To the OP, don't let other people set the bar for 'success' in bass playing.
16. Done. Eagerly awaiting the launch of the Bass'n'Bits-Keeper 2000!
17. When I buy a CD I try to give it a couple of good listens on my hi-fi separates system which includes floor-standing speakers - wahey! After that I rip it to iTunes at 256kbps and it goes on my iPod for in-car listening on my hour-long commute to work. Music makes the journey bearable.
18. First outing for 10-piece function band - birthday party for the male singer's brother. PA was hired in, and the chaps set FOH and monitor levels quickly and without fuss. A lot of the numbers were segued together in sets of 3, and they all worked very well. I was most amused when we moved from 'I Gotta Feeling' into 'Pretty Woman' (Big O variety), and heard a male punter shout 'yay! Some things never change...
19. The wood still looks wrong - like the first Chinese Squiers.
20.
An And what "test" will we have Lozz presiding over this time? Will it involve cheap and (actually not at all) nasty Maplins speaker cabs?
There has to be a HEFT SHOOTOUT!
21. My 2p worth: I used to play in a pub covers trio, and early on I bought a set of Trantec IEMs for myself and the singer/guitarist. We only put vocals plus a bit of guitar through the PA, so effectively we just used them for vocal monitoring. We always kept our backline. I left a few years ago but the same band is still using the IEM set. Good points - one small, lightweight case to carry around instead of 2 or more heavy, bulky wedge monitors - very clear sound (after we bought decent earphones - the ones in the kit were shocking) - isolation from rather loud guitar, bass, drums - more space left on the floor, fewer obstacles for drunken punters to fall over - keeps down the overall volume in the venue as ypu don't have another set of speakers blasting away on the floor Bad points - always recharging PP3 9V batteries to make sure they don't die near the end of the second set - to start with you feel a bit cut off from the action (the downside of the acoustic isolation bit) - my bass never sounded as good with the earphones in, as I was just getting whatever spilled into the vocal mics - impossible to judge the sound balance - someone still has to walk out the front on a long lead and report back
22. Some love them (see my sig), others not so much. IBTL
23. Great piece of kit, had a half-share in one in a previous band. If you want to mount it in the top of a 'DJ rack' there are instructions on how to remove the handle to do this.
24. Graphic EQ? Meh!
