I don't subscribe to the lighter-but-not-quite-as-good thing with micro/lightweight kit. My experience is that my lightweight amp and cab sound better than my heavier conventional solid state kit ever did. I have limited experience of valve bass amps mind, so can't comment there.

Dep guitar gig with a Bristol pub band. Took my LP Standard for a change - worked out really well, great sounds on tap, didn't really miss single coils.

I worry for her tendons.

Anyone signed up to this? Any experiences to share? A link came up on a fellow BC-er's LinkedIn page, just wondered how worthwhile it is.

If the mixing desk has XLR inputs, you could just use a standard mic lead (XLR male to XLR female). Maybe all those channels are already in use, and they only have balanced TRS inputs left?

I have an old Ashdown brochure, and it says 'All MAG combos feature extension speaker outputs'.

This one works for other instruments too: Watch the singer, listen to the drummer.

Which end is which? If your amp's DI is on an XLR, then the lead will need a female plug at one end and a 1/4in stereo jack at the other, wired according to this convention - follow the numbers on the XLR, they will be moulded into the plastic next to the solder tags.

Like many people, I often use a one-finger-per fret approach for 'position playing'. I have large hands, but in the lower (headstock end) positions it is too much of a stretch to do this without moving my hand around, so that's what I do. Your student with smaller hands will have to start doing this further up the neck. I would also say thumb-behind-neck, not thumb-over-neck, to avoid 'flying fingers'. Scott Devine covers both these points somewhere in his massive range of video clips1
