1.
I don't want it to look tacky.....
That particular ship has already sailed...
 2.
Most people know I am a staunch advocate but I just wanted to add that I MUCH prefer to read dots off PAPER! Computer screens and ipads etc are never big enough and turning pages is difficult etc. Old fashioned paper, every time!!
I wholeheartedly concur! The screen of my iPad is approx A5 size, so half the area of an A4 sheet of paper. Also the batteries never fail in a paper pad (and the ones in my cheapo LED music stand lights seem to last forever!)
 3.
One thing though about Fenders is that I read so much about finding a good one, surely they should all be good at the price they sell for, no exceptions.
Yep, Fender QC gets a lot of stick, and deservedly so imo. You just have to kiss a lot of 'frogs' until you find your 'prince'.
 4.
Would be very interested to know how you get on with it.
I saw the BVT coupled with Lozz's BF cab at the SE Bass Bash. The Ampeg badge had me fooled, and I immediately assumed it was full of hot glass.
 5.
Yes I did, from this very boutique. In the OP I did say it dates from between 1986 and 2005, but I should probably have mentioned specifically that it's a used amp. Maybe it should be UAD instead of NAD...
I did miss that, maybe I was thinking NOS!
 6. A quick Google failed to bring up a UK retailer so did you buy yours used?
 7. Well I did report back on the Dire Straits tribute gig, but I put it here in How Was Your Gig Last Night. Celebs in attendance: Chris Tarrant, Fiona Fullerton. I can add these to my previous roster of Vic Reeves, Ronnie Ancona, and Christopher Biggins. And Timmy Mallett.
 8. I tried Happy Jack's Miller fretless at the Bass Bash last Saturday, and that was remarkably light. It's a carbon fibre monocoque design.
 9.
.....It isn't nitro finish.
10.
Hi Paul, No problem; I'll weight it and let you know in the morning. Nik
There are no weighbridges open at this time of day
 11.
I'm sure I could make the Ashcott, just make sure certain local undesirables don't ask if they can come in and look ( and walk out with FX pedals)!
Did this happen before then!?
 12. I agree, the sound is atrocious, and the demos are not doing a good job of selling the amps. Maybe Dino should let the chaps at Pro Guitar Shop have a go - everything they demo sounds brilliant!
 13. The input capacitors on some guitar pedals are fine for guitars, but will shave some low end off the lower notes on a bass. Chaining several such pedals can make this even worse. Many drive circuits (particularly TS types) also filter off the low-mids below about 700Hz to stop the driven signal becoming too muddy. Bass overdrives frequently have a blend control to mix in some unfiltered clean signal. Modulation pedals designed for bass often work only on the mids and highs to prevent over-wobbly bass sounds. I'm sure there are more differences...
 14. I recall Marlin guitars when they came out. They looked like a bargain, but the hardware was made out of cheese, and not a particularly hard cheese at that!
 15. I tried a short scale Tom Anderton T-type a couple of years ago. To me it lacked the 'snap' of a full scale Tele.
 16. If the gain structureof the 7 Pro is anything like that of the 3 Pro, there is a lot of headroom built in to allow boost from the graphic EQ. Also the difference in volume from a 500W to 600W or even 800W head is not that much. The limiting factor may be the sensitivity of the speakers (or lack thereof).
 17.
Can anyone spare some room for my single bass on their perch? I can bring a stand, but I am not bringing an amp etc. Otherwise i'll come bassless
Rob, you're more than welcome to park your bass and yourself next to me. I will have a spare stand space, and enough stuff to mix and match 2 rigs at any one time.
 18. Addlestone, Surrey - details here.
 19. LIFT AVAILABLE FROM SWINDON I will be travelling along the M4 to Reading, then down the A329 through Bracknell to the M3 (alternatively just M4/M25). If you live on or close to that route and need a lift, or wish to save money by sharing fuel costs, please PM me. I have a big Merc estate so there would be loads of room for any kit you want to bring. Also happy to pick up 1 or 2 people from the station and drop off later if that helps anyone.
 20. I think it was TG that published four 'bass specials' about 10 years ago - excellent mags with loads of tutorial and transcription content.
 21.
Just one more pic of it under different lighting. I think I may have been wrong with the colour being a custom order and that the A necks were a custom order at the time?
Now that's what I'm talking about! It's probably nigh-on impossible to find this combination in the wild, but I have a cunning plan...
 22.
It's tiny!!! Sounds good though. Can't wait to give it a proper run.
Eek! Minor overhang!
