1. Trial and error is actually the best way to set a compressor! There are no 'magic' settings, as the results depend so crucially on the bass, the pickup selection and tone setting, and most of all the way you play. Having said that, there is a very good guide to setting up your compressor on the Ovni Labs website. Enjoy!

Also I am planning to travel with another Swindonian BC-er of my acquaintance, although he hasn't put himself on the list yet. Come on Andyonbass!
 3. Surely this flies in the face of the principle of string-count-reduction-for-the-fat-fingered championed by a certain guitar modifier?
 4.
For that one at the very least expenses should be covered.
This,
 5. What is the weight of this bass please? Thanks EDIT: Also can you show the condition of the frets? Does the truss rod nut move freely? Cheers!
 6.
Sandberg's are nice though - just you're limited to the set range of options.
Sandbergs are very nice indeed. I ended up buying a VM4. As well as plenty of set options, you can spec your own build by using their 'configurator'.
 7. I tried a Sandberg TT once (German made, not the Electra series) and I have to say it sounded less punchy than the Squier Jazz I had at the time.
 8.
Blimey! That's about the same as the Ashdown ABM 500 Combo I had.

It's about the same as my head, two 1x12 cabs, and one bass.
My entire 800W rig weighs less than 26kg (57lb).
 9.
For £1200, pay £400-450 for the amp and the rest on cabs. That would allow you to get most 212 and 2x112 second hand...
...and give you plenty of choice in the Amps & Cabs For Sale section of this forum. Buy used, and if you don't like it you can move it on at little or no net cost to yourself.
 10. In cold conditions, don't forget to keep your core temperature up by wearing extra layers of clothing around your torso and legs. Also the golden rule: a person is cold when their feet are cold!
 11. To me that sounds like a duff string. Seems to be more of a problem with flats and half-rounds, and can be caused ny the string getting twisted. Happened when I first put flats on my G&L.
 12.
This thing weighs in at 75lbs! Same as an SVT CL and on the limit of what I can safely schlep.
Blimey! That's about the same as the Ashdown ABM 500 Combo I had.
 13. Sounds like I ought to put up my depping rate! I normally find out what the split will be and either take the gig or don't. Occasionally I may negotiate a bit more for petrol money. I guess this is partly because I hugely enjoy depping!
 14.
I actually really like the aggressive MFD tone, particularly in a band with two guitars.

I'm now thinking maybe a G&L humbucker in the P position like an L1000, mmm ...
Hell yeah! See signature pic. Single MFD = rock heaven.
 15.
I had one of these a few years ago and stupidly sold it...
So did I but mine had a white scratchplate. Pestie did you change the scratchplate at the same time as the pickup, and if so do you still have the original?
 16.
Except that is a bolt on not a thru neck... An old Wal trick when you have some different coloured heart and sap wood on the bookmatched facings. My Wal has a similar but more subtle version on the front...
You're quite right. Still revolted by the look though. The one thing that puts me off many Yamaha BBs is the 'stripes' in the headstock. Easily fixed by having the headstock face match the body colour, especially if it's white. Yum!
 17. Learning my scales helped me to sight read, and doing hundreds of guitar and bass transcriptions has been fantastic ear training for me.
 18. All PM's replied to date, and... NOW £795 delivered in mainland Britain.
 19.
I will also bring both cabs and both amps to the SE Bass Bash next month
Another reason to look forward to the SE Bass Bash!

 21.
And a similar pet hate is the decline of the good old door wedge. Rarely spotted lying around pubs these days
Pack of 4 from Poundland!
 22. The Fender Modern Player Jazz comes fitted with humbuckers:
 23. Another singing bass (and guitar) player here, but much prefer to concentrate my full concentration on playing the bass!
