1.
Regarding the pickups, the 4 dots indicate they are Sandberg pickups rather than Delano. I like them a lot A lovely bass GLWTS
Thanks Eddie, post amended.
 2. I bought this bass new from Bass Direct in December 2012. You can read the full story here. This bass has served me well on gigs playing soul, rock, indie, pop, country, classical, and light opera, as well as hundreds of hours of practice. It is superbly put together, plays easily, and offers a range of sounds to suit just about any application. So why am I now selling it? One reason is my '73 Precision - the more I play it, the more I love it. Another is flatwound strings - I have developed a strong preference for flats, but have come to the conclusion that the Sandberg really wants rounds to bring out the best in it. And finally there is GAS - I need to have owned a few more basses before I die (but I don't have room for them all so it's 1 in, 1 out). Ok, first the spec: Nut width: 40mm 12th fret width: 57mm Weight: A very comfortable and well-balanced 4.2kg (9lb 4oz) Electronics: It's either a Glockenklang 2-band, or Sandberg's OEM version thereof. Pull out the volume knob and it switches to passive operation - pan and treble cut still work even without a battery. Pickups: Sandberg's own; a 'reversed' P-type, and a fat'n'juicy MM-type. Finish: Sandberg call this Metallic Red, but I always refer to it as Candy Apple Red! Scratchplate: Mint, i.e. white with a hint of green. Original pics from Bass Direct: The bass has picked up a few little marks, in particular a 2cm scratch near the bass side of the bridge, and some light buckle rash on the back. I have tried to capture them in these photos: Here is a sound clip of me playing some Motown, with a bit of limiting from a Cali76, and recorded from the DI output of a Streamliner (backing track is Dr Licks) - both pickups on, slight treble cut and bass boost from the onboard preamp: The bass comes in a Sandberg gig bag, and will be packed securely in a proper bass shipping box. Looking for [s]£850[/s] £795 delivered by insured, tracked courier within mainland Britain. Trades? I am open to possible trades for any bass- or guitar-related kit with cash my way, or cash your way if you are interested in taking this as PX against something more expensive that you are selling. I can say yes, I can say no, we can haggle, but please do not be offended whatever happens!
 3. Those coffee table basses where the fore-arm area has been chamfered away to leave an ugly stripe of contrasting exotic hardwood called something like 'ogankolo'. Sorry, can't bring myself to search for a picture online
 4.
I enjoy blues rock, early Zep, Purple, Bad Co. etc.
Me too, plenty of Zep on my iPod, but I don't think John Paul Jones, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes etc are or were 'bored guitarists'!
 5.
This is a bit of guesswork, but it came up in a Talkbass thread that the marked power consumption on the back of the BV1001M is 110 watts. I've read that the labelling convention is to quote the power consumption at 1/8 of the rated output, which is supposed to represent typical use. The GK MB800 also quotes a figure of 110 watts for this. Might it be reasonable to presume that the output of the Bugera and GK might be comparable, since they're both Class D designs with solid state preamps and are likely to have similar efficiency?
Hmmm... my Streamliner 900 is marked MAXIMUM AVERAGE POWER CONSUMPTION 650WATTS on the back panel.
 6.
There seems to be a lot of TecAmp Puma users here but is anyone using the Demeter Minnie?

I believe Billy Apple has recently acquired one.
And so have I Demeter plus Midget, Compact, or both - my own modular rig:
 7.
Hail Mary, full of grace. Our Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. (Rpt x20)
Yep, that should do it. Just don't forget to feel dirty.
 8.
As a bassist who started out as a guitarist and as someone who also plays blues rock from time to time I would like to apologise for my mongrel musical background and for my lamentable taste in music. My inferiority is obviously inherent. I'm so sorry. I'm so very sorry. I'm so very f**king sorry.
On behalf of the Church of Basschat, absolvo te.
 9. I took an acoustic with me when Mrs Axe and I holidayed near Axminster a couple of years ago, and we had a thoroughly grand evening at Elijah's 'Howl' open mic at the Ax Inn.

 11.
From what I remember the Omnibass has double bass kind of dimensions to its neck, however, comparing it with any kind of electric bass neck is a little misleading 'cause it has a fingerboard radius that enables it to be played arco (at which is sounds uniquely fabulous). You really have to go and try one.
From the Steinberger website: TransRadius Details: The TransRadius, now standard on the fretless Omni Bass, involves a unique compound curve. For a left-hand feel which is familiar to the experienced bass guitarist, the radius at the nut is ten inches. At the end of the fingerboard near the bridge, however, the radius is just 2.5 inches, large enough to maintain good string-to-string articulation with the bow, yet still comfortable for pizzicato (plucked/picked) style. The transition from nut to bridge features a carefully calibrated asymmetric convex curvature, providing optimal fingerboard relief at each position.
 12. Go to the original post, select EDIT, then USE FULL EDITOR. You can then edit the original tile - I suggest put SOLD at the start.
 13. I would be well chuffed if I could either sing or play to that standard, but to do both at once is outstanding!
 14. It's a fairly expensive option but I use my amp's flight case as an amp stand. Even so, if I stand right in front of it I don't hear it that well as I don't have ears in my elbows!
 15. Stealth Jazz FL - do the side dots line up with the 'fret' positions?
 16. The OB1-300 outputs 300W into a 4ohm load, but if your cab is 8ohm that will most likely drop to about 180W. Likewise the OB1-500 outputs 500W into a 4ohm load, and I would expect about 300W into an 8ohm load. Either should be fine for your cab, but with the 500, listen out for any 'farty' noises that would indicate the speakers are being pushed too hard. As to alternatives, there are loads of affordable amps around, either conventional solid state or lightweight Class D. I heartily recommend a look through the Amps and Cabs For Sale pages - buy used, and if you don't get on with it, sell it on for about the same price.
 17. I'm considering getting another fretless (been without my Yamaha for a while now), and one of the options is the NS Omnibass - or is it? I play bass guitar, not upright bass in any form, and I use a floating thumb technique as per Todd Johnson's explanation below. I play quite lightly and let the amp do the work! Upright bass players all seem to anchor their RH thumb on the side of the neck and reach across to pluck the strings in a very physical way, but I would prefer to keep my floating thumb technique, and wear the bass on a boomerang strap: Does anyone on here have an Omnibass and play it this way? How does it compare to playing a regular fretless bass guitar? In particular, how does the neck profile compare with those found on, say, a Precision? (To avoid any confusion, I am referring to the 34in scale instrument, not the 41.75in NXT models.) I am happy to take a trip up to Bass Direct at some point and try one, although (1) they only have the 5-string in stock at present, and (2) there would be a high risk of coming away with some other splendid bass that catches my eye; hence I would appreciate your learned comments.
 18.
It might be worth trying a different size of Doc's Pro Plugs. If you print this sizing transparency you can find the best match to your own ear.

I did that before ordering the ones I have! :-(
Fair enough!

 20. Depped with tribute band Dire Streets (ahem) last night at a private party in the garden of a huge Cotswold stone house. PA was provided by the support act as part of the deal, so not much gear-humping involved. I used my '73 P through my full Demeter/Barefaced rig and instantly achieved the right sound and volume level - result! Dire Straits material might not be the first music that comes to mind for partying, but the audience loved it. As soon as we started opening number Money for Nothing, guests started coming into the marquee from the bar area and the dance floor filled up. People even smooched to Brothers in Arms! I think it helped that most guests were of a certain age... A great band, so here's hoping I get a few more dep jobs with them.
