1. I do like that colour scheme
2.
Hi Paul, No problem; I'll weight it and let you know in the morning. Nik
There are no weighbridges open at this time of day
3.
I'm sure I could make the Ashcott, just make sure certain local undesirables don't ask if they can come in and look ( and walk out with FX pedals)!
Did this happen before then!?
4. I agree, the sound is atrocious, and the demos are not doing a good job of selling the amps. Maybe Dino should let the chaps at Pro Guitar Shop have a go - everything they demo sounds brilliant!
5. The input capacitors on some guitar pedals are fine for guitars, but will shave some low end off the lower notes on a bass. Chaining several such pedals can make this even worse. Many drive circuits (particularly TS types) also filter off the low-mids below about 700Hz to stop the driven signal becoming too muddy. Bass overdrives frequently have a blend control to mix in some unfiltered clean signal. Modulation pedals designed for bass often work only on the mids and highs to prevent over-wobbly bass sounds. I'm sure there are more differences...
6. I recall Marlin guitars when they came out. They looked like a bargain, but the hardware was made out of cheese, and not a particularly hard cheese at that!
7. So Lozz, off down to Maplin now?
8. I tried a short scale Tom Anderton T-type a couple of years ago. To me it lacked the 'snap' of a full scale Tele.
9. If the gain structureof the 7 Pro is anything like that of the 3 Pro, there is a lot of headroom built in to allow boost from the graphic EQ. Also the difference in volume from a 500W to 600W or even 800W head is not that much. The limiting factor may be the sensitivity of the speakers (or lack thereof).
10.
Can anyone spare some room for my single bass on their perch? I can bring a stand, but I am not bringing an amp etc. Otherwise i'll come bassless
Rob, you're more than welcome to park your bass and yourself next to me. I will have a spare stand space, and enough stuff to mix and match 2 rigs at any one time.
11. Addlestone, Surrey - details here.
12. LIFT AVAILABLE FROM SWINDON I will be travelling along the M4 to Reading, then down the A329 through Bracknell to the M3 (alternatively just M4/M25). If you live on or close to that route and need a lift, or wish to save money by sharing fuel costs, please PM me. I have a big Merc estate so there would be loads of room for any kit you want to bring. Also happy to pick up 1 or 2 people from the station and drop off later if that helps anyone.
13. I think it was TG that published four 'bass specials' about 10 years ago - excellent mags with loads of tutorial and transcription content.
14.
Just one more pic of it under different lighting. I think I may have been wrong with the colour being a custom order and that the A necks were a custom order at the time?
Now that's what I'm talking about! It's probably nigh-on impossible to find this combination in the wild, but I have a cunning plan...
15.
It's tiny!!! Sounds good though. Can't wait to give it a proper run.
Eek! Minor overhang!
16. 'Papa...' - hell yeah, great number, also love this version:
17.
My 77 or 78 (not sure which, but it has an S8 serial number) is a sort of custard yellow, which I assume is (was) Olympic White. I bought it in 1979, I don't ever remember it being any other colour though...
I'm liking that!
18.
I've noticed that many of the local gigs I go to regardless of the genre, bass rigs always seem to have the sub bass button pressed in. By that I mean the button like on ashdowns that adds an octave of the note being played to your sound. Are the basses players use these days so bass shy that this is standard practice. I see them all the time on back line rigs provided for us and even though we are a reggae band I always turn them off. Recently I was rehearsing with a band as a Dep and the bass rig had a Lo in and it really made the sound incredibly muddy. Am I missing something?
No you are right. It's been said here many times, but too much bass is not good for your sound. For a fatter sound I boost the mids, and for dubby I roll off the tone pot on the bass. Too much 'LO' fills the room with boom™ but makes it hard to distinguish the note being played.
19. Unfortunately andyonbass can't make it
20.
I recall someone in the BC community (can't remember who) saying something like "if you're going to play in a worship group, do it for spiritual reasons rather than musical ones, otherwise you'll be conflicted".
That was me. Been there and done it.
21.
I have a 1972 and 1973 Fender Catalogue and both show Blond (colour code 501) and Olympic White (colour code 505) as available.
Exactly the sort of info I was looking for, cheers!
22.
I do indeed have one like that - 1976, it is. There is no finer Fender logo and no finer 70s colour combination, in my humble opinion. http://s734.photobuc...%20April%202015 If you look at the wear on the forearm contour, the Olympic White paint underneath is just as white as it was in 1976. It's a component of the clear poly top coat that degrades over time and give the appearance of this creamy yellow colour. Highly prized by collectors! This particular example was made early in 1976. Later that year, the logo changed to a different and slightly smaller font, and the serial number was moved from the neck plate to the headstock. Anyone getting P Bass GAS, much?
P-bass GAS? Moi? Anyone know the history of the white finish on Precisions - I have seen it on early 60s ones (possibly refins though) and late 70s, but not on late 60s to early 70s - hence my question.
23.
I had a white 77 Precision - though it had aged to a yellow finish.
I've just remembered Discreet has one like that, '78 I think.
24. Was white (Olympic or otherwise) a standard finish on Precisions during the 70s, and particularly combined with the 'TV logo'? I have googled this a bit without finding a clear answer, so over to you Basschatters...
25. Is this the model Scott Devine uses?
