1. I'll be watching this thread, because if I ever get another Jazz, that's exactly what I will want to do!
 2. And although they look weird, they don't feel weird to play. In fact the opposite to weird, whatever that might be.
 3.
Is this useful: http://www.iguitarma...-fretless-bass/
Not to the OP - he's already bought one! But yes, you've got me thinking now...
 4. Just checked out the price online - about half what I was expecting to see! Good score.
 5. Wow! Pity about the thumb rest strip though, I would never use it and it may well get in the way.
 6.
. He just asked me about Laney amps (HC50), are they any good?
In a recent-ish thread, Laney 100W combos were routinely reviled as the worst starter amps people had owned!
Someone told me that the Rolands have tiny surface mount components so if they go wrong they can't be repaired. Mid you that might be the case for most new amps.
It is, for many new amps anyway.
 7. Try to blag your way into a rehearsal band, i.e. a dance band working from written parts. The more you do, the better you get.
 8.
Don't you hate it when your question is so common they made a whole page about it!

Yes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX7wtNOkuHo
 9. The easiest way to visualise Class D is to think of it like a FM radio transmitter. Your audio signal is modulating a much higher frequency carrier. I realise I may have lost a lot of people already... It seems to be widely accepted that a lot of Class D power amps are somewhat optimistically spec'd. The infamous TC active power management article is actually quite illuminating in this respect, in that it it gives a good example of a real world Class D solution, where the initial note attack is sacrificed in order to reproduce the rest of the note, in a way that sounds subjectively 'as loud as' a much more powerful amp. One person's 'loud' is another person's 'baked-in compression'.
 10. Unless the listing specifies an earliest dispatch date, I think it's reasonable to expect items to be sent within 48 hours. I once bought a DAW and had to wait 10 days while the seller found a box for it. I was not best pleased, but this was in the days of buyer feedback, so I didn't rock the boat.
 11. Some other approaches when guitarist starts loud noodling: 1. Bassist and drummer step away from their instruments and place hands over their ears. Advantage: conveys how you feel. Disadvantage: not convinced this will get through! 2. Bassist plays something loud and random in Eb (guaranteed to clash badly with noodling), drummer 'builds a shed'. Advantages: feels good. Disadvantages: you have sunk to the guitarist's level.
 12.
I think they work again now.....Sorry.Ihave no idea what happened there....
Yep, they're back
 13. I immediately downloaded Kid Charlemagne - I love Steely Dan, especially where Chuck Rainey is playing. This is one I haven't attempted to transcribe myself, but I think I would have written the breakdown in bars 73 to 76 as 8va - as it is I will be counting up ledger lines and writing on the note names! Well done though
 14. Don't you mean, 'Discreet, are you a bass knob'?
 15. I tried the MXR Bass Comp at Anderton's recently. The one example they had in stock didn't work - no audible compression, and no lights on the LED ladder, no matter how I set the controls. And I do understand how to use a compressor! They have crammed a lot into a tiny box, especially when you consider it is a similar concept to the Cali76 (which I own) e.g. same control set. If you're wondering why I tried the MXR when I have a Cali76, I was looking for something smaller for my 'big' guitar pedalboard. I got the Xotic SP in the end btw.
 16. It's hard to tell in the pics, but are there any fret lines (however faint)?
 17.
And Mr Brightside is actually quite difficult to play on guitar.
In fact it's a biatch!
 18.
For years a thought this stopped your lips from getting sore.
Also good for lubing guitar nuts.
 19. The Behringer Ultra-G will take a speaker-level signal (jacks only) and send a balanced output, with or without 4x12 sim. There are two 20dB pad switches to bring the line level down to undistorted levels. WARNING: Beware of doing this on a class D amp, as I think I am right in saying that this would cause a short to earth in the power section. Cue magic smoke. Likewise amps operating in bridged mode. I welcome better-informed comment on this!
 20.
... which, assuming your talking about the rosewood vs maple one, was not a blind test and therefore of little value (no offence to loz intended).
I wasn't there but I thought the audience voted for the best-sounding P without seeing it?

 22.
One word: Trilogy. A mainstay of these festivals, and example of which is below. The first time I saw one of these, I couldn't stand up for laughing. It didn't go down well with the regulars.
They do take it very seriously, although it beats me what it's all about! We actually perform the Trilogy live, somewhere between Mickey Newbury's version and Elvis's. It's quite a moving song, combining music from both sides in the civil war plus an African-American 'spiritual'. Sadly, I think all the faffing around with flags and hats somewhat detracts from its impact.
 23.
My SR16 arrived! Very happy with it, it does exactly what i want - beats to play along to, with 'standard' patterns for various styles and no added faffing required!
Result! Enjoy
