For those Of Us Who have To Audition, Do You Ask The Right Questions?
JapanAxe replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
For an audition I would tend to wear something neutral - black jeans and t-shirt. They can always imagine how you will look in a DJ / burka / Smurf outfit... -

Reliced 60th Anniversary Precision USA, Surely Not!!!
JapanAxe replied to thebrig's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Apart from all the other things that are horrible on this bass, why is the scratch plate about 12mm thick!
Never mind the quality, feel the thickness. -
It's an ugly thing and weighs too much.
I concur.

Alcohol, volume and gigging - an article
JapanAxe replied to Funky Dunky's topic in General Discussion
Very interesting article, thanks for linking Dunky. I don't think I've ever experienced this as a player, or indeed noticed it as an audience member - but the point is, you probably wouldn't know it was happening. Personally I rarely drink on gigs and then never more than a pint of beer - it takes the edge off my playing, and I'm usually driving anyway. Also I suffer some distortion in the hearing of my right ear, which is made worse by alcohol and tiredness. If I am working with or listening to a loud band I use ear plugs. -
I share your dischuffment with the whole phones-and-iPads aloft phenomenon. To phone-raisers I say: FFS just enjoy the moment - a few minutes of crappy phone footage will not enhance your fond memories.

'Active' inputs generally have lower gain and lower impedance than 'passive'. An active bass plugged into a 'passive' input will sound louder because of the higher gain. A passive bass plugged into an 'active' input will sound dull because it is seeing too low an impedance. I would be surprised if the tone of an active bas changed between the two inputs, as the active circuit should not be adversely loaded by the 'active' input. Having said all that, if it sounds good, just do it - no harm will result.
Are you trying to imply i'm stupid with the "Duh!" comment It was a suggestion thats all, no need to be rude about it now is there
Just found this post! No, not at all, I was just referring to the obviousness of using the search box to do a search. -
Sandberg also spring to mind, the positioning of their MM pickups make them sound more like steroid fuelled J pickups http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basscat-overview/basic-series-top/basicvm
True, my VM4 is very flexible indeed.

I am playing 'Red' in my new band and finger style works fine for me.

I don't bother trying to create a perfect emulation of the recorded sound (which was probably DI'd anyway), just get as close as I can with the bass in my hands.

It's already easy to find what you're looking for. On the Basses For Sale page, type your search term in the search box (duh!) and open the grey pull-down menu, then select 'This Forum'. Job done. -

Amp vibrating off cab....any cures..?
JapanAxe replied to jonnythenotes's topic in General Discussion
I had something similar with my Genz Benz Shuttle... the feet were hard plastic and did not grip at all. I sorted it by replacing the feet with nice rubber grippy ones. No issues since, no extra bits to carry around. The head is light but it will not vibrate off my cabs no matter how loud I play.
I've replaced the feet on my Streamliner with larger ones, so that it will clear the handle on my Compact when used on its side. The 'feet' are in fact doorstops from Wilko, which can be cut down a bit if necessary, but they're not very grippy. If anyone knows a source of large grippy rubber feet, please do share. (Cue links to pics on fancy dress websites.) -

Full disclosure: you may have to cut a slot for the cab handle! -
How about a modular combo with some sort of latching system so you could have any arrangement of castor/sacktruck wheel base layer, 1 or 2 (or more) 12" (or bigger) cabs, and then a 2U rack top for amp + tuner on the front and cable storage on the back? Could be stripped down to fit in smaller cars or for carrying over awkward terrain, or clipped all together for a one trip load-in for places with better access.
Don't forget the sandwich toaster and coffee machine...
I bought a Tokai Hardpuncher ltd. edition a few years ago off ebay on a whim, it is a fine bass now strung with flats. I sometimes miss the lack of contour and wish I had bought a normal Tokai p-bass. I don't think I can ever sell it because I would regret it too much (sold a Rickenbacker years ago and have regretted it ever since), and it is hard to find another one like it. Great basses you have Glorihanah and nick
That's lush - a re-imagined slab-body Precision!
It's not a gig, you know...
I know but as the OP more than hints, you've got all these people watching and listening so you don't want to play some random lame Am7 riff, which is what happens otherwise. Anyway what better test of the bass than to try out the stuff you're going to end up playing on it live!?
