1. Biker festivals - pretty sure they would love your material.
 2. There's a bad connection, or a break in the circuit board. If you are lucky it will be something simple like the input jack coming adrift from the circuit board. If not - new circuit board
 3.
Normally this is the point at which I'd say "guess it's time I went down to one of the big guitar shops in Surrey and try a couple"...but then we come full circle back to the OP's question!
As OP for this thread, I have to confess I have recently sold mine in pursuance of the 1-in-1-out policy which I adopted for the purpose of retaining my manly appurtenances. However, when I was looking, I didn't find that many - even in the big Surrey shops. I still haven't ruled out a lined fretless headless (cricket bat), on the grounds that I could easily hide it. I would get someone to take a date-stamped photograph of me playing it on a gig (not attended by Mrs Axe), then about 18 months later, stroll into the living room with it. When Mrs Axe says 'What? Another new bass?' I can reply that I've had it for years, before digging up the photo as proof.
 4. Do you mean playing bass on a session being recorded in Pro Tools? I'm guessing that would be the same as recording to tape, wax cylinder, whatever. If you mean charging for recording other people into Pro Tools, that would be a different question - not to mention the answer might vary depending on which side of the Atlantic you are.
 5. I have the L1505, and I tend to go for passive and series, treble half-way, bass at 80%. This gives a 'vintage' voice imo (though I am using flats) - flicking to active brings in a more 'modern' voice. I used to have an L2000 Tribute, and yes, there are a lot of options. Don't worry if you can't find a use for them all - you'll still find plenty of great, usable sounds.
 6. Looks the biz but (gulp!) no tone control?
 7. Looks like I won't be able to make the SE Bass Bash this year, so I might be tempted, even though it is a 2-hour drive. I'll keep my eye on this thread, and if it's a suitable date, could be up for some kind of lift-sharing arrangement.
 8.
PM'd

Hi I'm interested in the Korg Pandora please pm me. Cheers Russ
PMs repiled to.

 10. And here's what my current board looks like loaded up with pedals (rig used for skinny-string): Full spec can be seen here.
 11.
for me aguilar hands down over the mark bass, but i would also consider the GK and dont overlook Carvins offerings they are fantastic value for money
Molan should be along any moment to big up the Carvin range
 12. As the owner of the 5-string version of this bass, and an ash/maple P, I can only imagine that this bass must sound fantastic!
 13. In 14 years of live bass playing, I have never broken a string, and I have had one amp failure (I then plugged into the PA - sounded shocking, but the bald blokes in cutoffs leaping around to 'Pretty Vacant' and 'Teenage Kicks' didn't seem to care). I generally take just one bass to gigs - two are passive, the other 2 are active with a passive option. Obviously other things can go wrong, so I should probably adopt a 2-bass policy, although (for reasons I can't quite pin down) I am reluctant to do this on pub gigs. Sometimes I just like to swap over for fun, or to see which basses work best on which material, or though which amp. It's only in the last year or so that the possibility of taking a spare amp become a viable option. I always carry spares of all the usual 'consumables', and now that I have a second soldering kit, that's going in a compartment in the boot of my car (along with the 'spare' spares - guitar lead, mic lead, kettle lead, 4-way). Strangely, on skinny-string I almost always take 2 guitars out. Some guitars work so much better on certain songs, but I do try to minimise (if not eliminate) mid-set swapping. I have had guitars fail (selector switch, solder joints, bust strings) at rehearsal, so obviously that could happen on a gig.
 14.
I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but I am going to post anyway as I feel the point is important. Do we really have to persist with the use of the phrase "Jap" in the title of this thread. In most of the world the term "Jap" is consider to be extremely offensive and racist - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jap . Frankly the title of this thread is pretty much the equivalent of calling a thread about products produced in other parts of Asia "Paki-pap" or "Chinky-Cheapos". And before somebody raises the point - no, it's not the equivalent of using "Brit". That is essentially a friendly term that isn't used as an insult. Even so, how would you feel about Talk Bass having a thread called "Brit-Crap"?
No flames from my direction! A similar point arose a while back on Gretsch-Talk.com (to which I belong) - a UK member referred to a 'Jap' guitar (nearly all the pro-line Gretsches are made in Terada) merely as an abbreviation, but the reference was removed because in the USA (where the majority of G-T users reside) it is considered racially offensive. Would it really be any better to say 'Japanese Crap'? That still links a nationality or ethnicity with a derogatory term. I doubt that anyone contributing to the thread does so out of malice towards Japanese people or the nation of Japan. On your 'Brit' point, a Talk Bass thread called 'Brit Crap' would not bother me in the least. Just to confuse things further, I once got talking to a copper who worked in counter-terrorism, and he told me his colleagues used the term 'BritPaks', simply because that is 2 syllables, as against the 6 of 'British Pakistanis' (referring of course to British citizens with family origins in Pakistan). I don't know what to conclude from all this, but that thread has now been running for nearly 7 years...
 15. TBH that is just a practice amp with ideas above its station!
 16. I have been a happy user of the Pedaltrain 2 for three years now. As my kit now travels by car and not van, I have decided to move from hard case to soft case. I have therefore purchased a brand new Pedaltrain 2 SC; I am keeping the soft case to use with my existing Pedaltrain board, and I am selling the brand new unused Pedaltrain 2 board, along with the used hard case. The board itself is the latest design, with 2 removable blanking plugs on the edge of the board furthest from the player, mounting plates to fit a power supply underneath, and sufficient industrial-strength velcro to cover all the slats with pedals. The hard flight case is very robust, with room to carry other stuff like cables along with the board. The exterior is marked from use as you can see in the pictures, but it is perfectly sound, and all the hinges and catches work perfectly. Cheapest online price for a brand new PT2 with hard case is £160. I am looking for [s]£110[/s] £100 collected for the brand new pedalboard and used case (just need to be clear about that!), insured shipping (mainland Britain) would be £15 extra. I am happy to discuss meet-ups within a 35-mile radius of Swindon (Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Newbury, Oxford etc). Mainly seeking cash but trades also considered.
 17.
Well yes, but I didn't want to come over all Michael Gove... Edit: note the order of words carefully before posting a smart-arse reply...
Yes I read the first bit twice before I noticed the second bit. Momentarily thought I had stumbled upon a 'niche interest' site.
 18. +1 to all this. Some people buy an instrument with upgrades in mind, I just imagine how good it will sound with some Chromes* on. *or substitute the name of your favoured brand.
 19.
not much more than your selmer treble n bass, had one myself!
Maybe, but I ain't gigging the T'n'B!
 20. Before you buy it, just try lifting it. How close to Manson's can you park?
 21.
To raise the point, there are plenty of covers that are far better than the original ever was. CCR do my favourite version of "Heard It Through The Grapevine", much better than the Smokey Robinson one.
My pop covers band does Grapevine, and we have pretty much followed CCR's version as (1) it's cool, and (2) it works better for our guitar/bass/drums format.
 22. And why is there a hole right through the headstock near the E-string capstan?
 23. Petition signed. Live music needs venues.
 24. As someone who plays guitar in a guitar/bass/drums covers trio, I see it as my job to make sure there isn't a big hole in the sound when I take a lead break. I use a combination of the following:

playing in a lower register than the original
double-stops
triple-stops (or 'short chords')
flat-picking between chord strums
favouring the neck pickup
compression
analog delay
light overdrive
boosting volume rather than gain
In some songs, the bass player will play a busier part during the lead break, but otherwise all I ask and expect of him is a conventional bass guitar sound. This works well for country and a lot of pop, but as ever YMMV...
