In the interests of fairness I looked at all the pictures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but does one of the 'artworks' depict a lady with a bright light shining forth from her secret garden? SimS LED mod perhaps?
It isn't easy to get a good B out of a LOT of basses ...IMO... so not just at the cheaper end of the market. The last thing you want on a B st is a thump upto the 7th fret... it should sound balanced to the E and A... and that really isn't easy to achieve and plenty of name basses don't/can't.. If you can't slap on the B... it isn't clean enough a sound...and it doesn't matter if slapping isn't your thing, it is the ability of the B string to resonate cleanly... All strings go off in terms of fatigue, IME..... so I don't get the idea of any string on a bass for 5 yrs. Sound notwithstanding.... the string will be shot and feel terrible to me The main thing that retires a string is when the life goes out of it... You may be able to refresh that to a degree with cleaning, but a lot of strings will not clean many times now. I am not sure the metal quality is there anymore in many brands either. Understandably, string companies might not like the idea of cleaning strings. Just my 2p..
I think your full stop key might be sticking
No I totally get why people use flats, I've got one bass I keep strung with flats for when I want that sound, it's just it's a pretty primitive sort of sound isn't it, so you don't need an expensive bass to get it.
You could say the same for the clanky full-on Precision sound. EDIT: with rounds of course!

Flats offer a different range of sounds, rather than a limited range, and take you into a different kind of playability.
Id most likely tell the guy, sorry I cant take this on right now (after a gig in a crowd) and suggest getting together to have a session at someones house, if he follows up on this (which might be unlikely) then you may learn something in the correct setting to do so.
...and you'd get to see him in his latex gimp suit
Oh stop splitting hairs! Might not be the best use of language but was trying to get across that is I had a thing of 50's, 60's, 70's spec I could still be served very well by the Squier catalogue yet they still can't but together a faithful recreation of a mustang.
Sorry mate, not marking you down for repetition, it's just that a lot of these models only 'sort of' hit the mark. On the plus side, their cheapness makes them ideal for a modificaton or refin; on the minus side, if the neck doesn't make the grade in the first place, no amount of teaking will fix this. To be fair, neither the Squier CV range nor the Fender Pawn Shop range are intended to be fathful recreations of vintage instruments, you generally have to pay quite a bit more for that privilege.
I did a similar though less rigorous analysis a few years ago which showed a similar middle-aged bulge.
Funny, I've got one of those just behind my bass...
Just ask him: "If you're so smart, why ain't you rich?"
... and how come you ain't playing tonight! Alternatively: 'Please don't let let me keep you a moment longer from your urgent search for someone who gives a £$%^ what you think'.

Wow! I played this very bass at Guitar Village on my recent Mustang-shopping trip, and I can confirm it is a corker. If any bass was going to turn me back on to Jazzes, it would be this one. Congrats Linus!
seriously there are usually plenty here for sale at 'good prices'....happy hunting
This.
Sort of agree with you but I know I can sort of pick a model, a year and a colour and sort of find what I want with Squier without even needing to look at a fender.
There's your trouble!
From the label: 'Contains white mineral oil. Non-toxic.'
That'll be somewhere between white spirit and vaseline then. Never felt the need.

As a recent Fender Pawn Shop Mustang owner, I have to agree. I don't think the Squier offerings bring much goodness to the table. Then again, Fender's whole ethos seems to be to flood the market with random options in the hope that some will hit the mark and sell.

Will strings change the tone with under saddle P/U's?
JapanAxe replied to Maude's topic in Accessories and Misc
Definitely worth trying. I had a Variax 500 guitar at one point, and I found the excessive finger noise to be a problem when using jazz guitar models. -
Can't install on my Mac - I am running 10.6.8 and it needs 10.7 or higher. Bugger!

Bought some D'Addario XLs from Dingus and fitted them just before going away for Christmas. This has resulted in a great improvement in feel. Result! While I was away I popped into Steven James Guitars in Middlesbrough and tried a couple of other basses for comparison.

Fender CIJ Mustang RI (split p/u) - nice to play, decent sound, but not the full-on girth of of the PSM's humbucker.
Squier Tele Bass - plenty of HB power, but can't help thinking the p/u placement is a bit extreme, and Fender have missed a trick where they could have located a single HB in the sweet spot.
So, even happier with my purchase! I haven't given up on flats completely for this bass, but getting the right combination of scale length and gauge is not easy. The ideal fit would be La Bella Deep Talkin' set 760FS-M-TB (the TB stands for Through Body) but can you even get these in the UK?
I'm not suddenly a rounds hater
Me neither. Got rounds on my Mustang and although I like the feel of flats I will probably stay with rounds for the best tonal range for that instrument.
